Their meat and produce selection is excellent and priced fairly. Most common brands and products are available. They have a small alcoholic beverage selection and natural/organic section too. Compared to other groceries in the area, their cashiers and baggers are faster and more efficient when ringing up items and bagging them. Long lines are managed properly. Parking can be quite tricky especially during peak times but overall it isn't too bad and if you purchase a minimum of Php 300 (or is it 500? Suddenly I can't remember whoops), parking is free for a few hours.

We ordered Wagyu, T-Bone, Angus, Tapa, Pork Chop and Liempo and the only thing we liked was the pork chop. Everything else tasted meh. One of my friend even commented her mom cooks steak better and I agree. There's nothing special about the way they cook steak. I'd love to write more but that's about it. I'm actually quite disappointed because I heard a lot of good things about the place. What makes this Monterey Meatshop different from the one I always go to, is that this one has more vegetables for sale. And the shelves are full of vegetables in the morning. It's always fresh and at reasonable prices too. There are fewer staff here so it gets pretty slow when there are lots of people. You do have to remind them about your order and how you'd like them to cut it. But overall, their service is still good.

Don't get me wrong, this place is really convenient for those who live in the area. They have meat (obviously), vegetables, cooking oil, herbs, noodles, different sauces and ice cream. (I only go for the ice cream.) If you're a senior citizen (like my mom), don't worry if you forgot your senior citizen ID. They have all the senior citizens who live in the area and frequent the shop fill up a form. The cashier will just ask you for your last name, does some math and you get your discount. Another great thing about this little shop is that they accept all major credit cards. Don't have a credit card? You can use your ATM or debit card. Sorry, they don't make 'pa-utang' or 'pa-lista' though. Oh, and they accept reservations! Last Christmas, we needed chicken to make relleno. They didn't have any that day, but they said if you put in an order the day before you need it (your chicken or meat), they'd have it for you the next day.

My mom shops here for various fresh food items: meats and poultry, fruits and vegetables, calamansi juice concentrate, cooked pork barberque and grilled tuna from Bunso stall, rice cakes, etc. We also shop for non-food items such as clothes ("tiangge"-style), plants (we bought orchids here), 2nd hand furniture (my current wooden closet from Japan is from here lol), and a whole lot more! There's so much to see here and the items are way cheaper than the usual grocery stores. It's fun to visit the place every weekend, and it's also an awesome way to support local businesses. There are sections specifically for seafood, chicken, for imported steaks and for every kind of cut imaginable. The meats are packed so neatly, too! They vacuum-sealed in square bags so stacking them in the fridge is super easy. I love how fresh everything tastes when they're cooked and how lean the pre-packed meats are (even the pork). I love the selection of fish they have -- from Black Bass to Norwegian Salmon and in different cuts, too! Plus, if you're a frequent buyer, they keep records of you. Just tell them your name and they can show you records of what you've bought in the past. Great for keeping track of your budget...I don't know if they do this for everyone though, maybe just those weird moms who buy a week's worth of groceries as much as caterers do for a big event.

Here you'll find imported steak cuts, frozen imported seafood like mussels, cod, salmon and other fish I've never even heard of, and I learned of this place by asking a caterer where they get their salmon supplies from. It is quite cheap, the salmon and the cod in particular, and they have it in different sorts of cuts and fillets. Do call in ahead to check on stocks though, as they are quite popular with bulk buyers and stocks may sometimes be limited. As for how I prepare my fish, let's just say that it isn't something that you can stomach on a daily basis, so let's leave that for another post somewhere else. "My meatshop? MyOwn Meatshop!"
