I've tried several cuts of their meat already and I must say that although the meat is locally sourced, the quality is at par with the best out there. Kitayama's clientele are mostly well-established restaurants and chefs and curious guest who is interested in quality ingredients. On a refrigerated display are the different cuts of wagyu meat, which they slice in the premises in whatever thickness you prefer. Aside from the numerous cuts of wagyu meat, the store also has interesting pre-packaged options on offer like the wagyu burges, sausages and beef tapa. I've tried the tapa myself and it is absolutely delicious. So for your next barbeque or cheat day, make sure to drop by Kitayama and get several grams of their meat. There are two kinds of storage inside, the chiller where you pick the meat you'd like cooked and eaten inside and the freezer where you can shop and pay for discounted meat. We ordered Wagyu, T-Bone, Angus, Tapa, Pork Chop and Liempo and the only thing we liked was the pork chop. Everything else tasted meh. One of my friend even commented her mom cooks steak better and I agree. There's nothing special about the way they cook steak. I'd love to write more but that's about it. I'm actually quite disappointed because I heard a lot of good things about the place. Somebody who had been here before said the steak tasted better but she said it wasn't as good as she remembered it.

I love the fact that you can choose your own meat and cut of the steak. After choosing a meat they give a small paper to tell them how you want it cook and what side dish and sauce you want. Place is pretty good size and it was a Sunday. If your a big group you might have wait for a little bit. Steak was served with great grill marks cooked to my desired temperature and the sides I want. Overall it was a great experience. I will definitively come back try the wagyu next time.

What makes this Monterey Meatshop different from the one I always go to, is that this one has more vegetables for sale. And the shelves are full of vegetables in the morning. It's always fresh and at reasonable prices too. There are fewer staff here so it gets pretty slow when there are lots of people. You do have to remind them about your order and how you'd like them to cut it. But overall, their service is still good.
