I like to cook. I love sumptuous, flavorful food like curry. I've searched high and low for many spices I need to make a proper garam masala, but normal supermarkets and groceries like SM, Rustans and Landmark are woefully inadequate.
Living in Jupiter St. for the past years have given me the leisure to just walk around the area to discover little establishments that I have never noticed before.
Assad's is one of them. It's the only Indian grocery store that I know of within walking distance from my condominium, and they're very well stocked, too! Need some biryani rice to impress your Indian friends? Yeah, they've got it. How about some fresh nutmeg to grate over some lattes or hot chocolate to give it that holiday flavor? Of course! (Make sure you've got a decent spice grinder, though. And if all else fails, nothing beats a good, old-fashioned spice grinder.)
Apart from spices, they've got prathas, rotis, and premixed sauces and spices for those lazy to experiment. They also sell freshly made curry puffs at the counter, the best I've had in a while!
(By the way, I dont know why, but we aren't allowed to take pictures of the interior... I was just trying to take photos of some spices to send to my friend, and the manager kindly asked me to delete them. I wonder why...) read more
