The educational portion was ineffective which really slowed things down. When we were ready to use the pre paid driving lessons they would no longer honor them. They were also pretty rude about it. Instead of investing time into improving customer service and teaching they respond to my Google review accusing me of lying and trying to take down a small business and on and on. Pretty crazy stuff. Anyway I think the other reviews of this place pretty much speak for the self. But take a pass on Melrose driving school. It's really bad.

Angel, my instructor, always promptly arrived 5+ minutes earlier than the scheduled time, and was extremely professional, encouraging and helpful. Under his instruction, I went from being extremely anxious to ready to drive on freeways and LA streets and take my exam. My actual DMV driving exam was extremely traumatic but I still passed the first time, and everything Angel reviewed with me was highly applicable. Their online drivers ed program was strait forward and nicely set them up for their permits. They are also solid administratively, setting up appointments quickly and efficiently, as well as providing good reminders and being responsive when we had questions, or changes were needed. For behind the wheel training, we had Miguel teach both of them, and he was so patient and thoughtful and informative. He handled their different temperaments nicely, and after 5 excellent and encouraging lessons at the end of which he did a great run through of the possible drive test circumstances, my sons passed on their first tries. We built skills progressively, one thing at a time, and not once did I feel the panic I had with the previous instructor. Any time I got nervous, he'd crack a quick joke to lighten the mood, which helped more than he probably realizes. My daughter had taken lessons from another company where the instructor was professional but not nearly as informative and thorough as Daniel was with me, the parent, about what he was going to teach before the session and what they did after the session. As other reviewers have mentioned, Daniel is so knowledgeable about every aspect of instructing "how" to be a good driver, why you need to maneuver the car this way or that way, and took my son on all sorts of streets and freeways and different situations. And yes, Daniel is very funny (in a subtle way, I've noticed myself) and very very patient. And my son can attest to these comments! If you're looking for a driving school, I HIGHLY recommend Cornerstone!
