I recruited my friends to go shopping for Piñata with me at "Dulcelandia," near Fullerton and Avers. Long story short, we scored a medium-sized one under $10. The idea of having a piñata at our get-together fiesta this evening was pretty spontaneous. While I was on CTA #35 bus, I saw the "Dulcelandia" outlet location in Brighton Park and was quite curious. As many of you know, Rosa J. is gifted at turning all her curiosity into reality. In the end the piñata portion of the party worked out amazingly! I inquired about the 10% Yelp check-in offer and the sales associate was able to accept it. We didn't get any candy since someone else was going to bring some to fill up the piñata, but their selections were eclectic. There's a minimum cap on using debit/credit card: $5 with a government-issued photo ID. Hence, if you are to purchase a few pieces of candy, bring some cash with you so that you can avoid getting cavities. read more

If I could give this place ONE star I would. When I went to the location to place an order for a piñata they took my information, I paid on the spot and I as given a date. After not hearing back from them I called. They said no order was placed... I pulled out my bank statement and sure enough they had charged me. Then they RUDELY proceeded to asked who had helped me. I said a gentleman, then they said no men worked at the location... frustrated and confused I was about to go there myself. She then said she had "found it" and now I'm getting it the DAY before the party. IM LIVID and when I go to pick it up on that Saturday I need to speak to someone about this terrible experience. There was NO need for being that disrespectful over the phone, especially if THEY were in the wrong. I will be sure to not return and warn others as well. read more

Pretty cool store. I went there to look for a jelly candy that a friend had brought from Mexico. They didn't have it, but they did have an alternative that was pretty good. Dulcelandia has a great assortment of pinatas for any occasion. I always go to them because their pinatas are Tonka tough, and can take a good beating before falling to pieces and raining candy. They have many different characters and themed pinatas. They also have a huge assortment of different Mexican candies, including big variety bags. Holy crapface. I discovered so many wonderful things today. First of all, living in Wicker Park is like living next to Mexico! Secondly, in Mexico, they have wonderful things like pinata stores. Stores entirely devoted to pinatas and things to put in pinatas. This is probably the most magical place you could take a 10 year. Fck Disney World. Take them to a Mexican pinata store! I bought two. They are each the size of a washing machine and cost $10. read more

What a fun, somewhat insane and definitely wonderful place. A friend thought it would be funny to fill a piñata with mini-size gin bottles and call it a "giñata" -- so I decided that's what I would do for him for his birthday! Turns out that mini-size plastic gin bottles are not as easy to find as I expected... but finding an amazing piñata in which to put them is a cinch, with Dulcelandia! Unfortunately, because of a fire at the piñata warehouse (I kid you not), they were out of smaller-sized piñatas. I ended up with a lion the size of a terrifyingly-large dog. (Word to the wise: it turns out that they get very heavy when you fill them with mini-size gin bottles, so I had to call a taxi for the trip home -- the bus was *not* going to cut it.) They helped me pick out the piñata, the candy, and even helped me wrap the glass bottles in bubble wrap and tape them before helping me stuff the thing! Seriously above-and-beyond the call of duty. Total cost for over 5 pounds of candy, a large lion piñata, and a stick with which to whack it? $36. I will be back again for sure, and hopefully this time they will have a more complete selection of piñatas, once the factory catches up with production after the warehouse fire. They could also use a larger selection of non-candy things to put inside the piñatas, like toys and party favors, so that you could really make it one-stop shopping, as opposed to having to go to Party City as well (the saleswoman's recommendation). Tip: I recommend finding plenty of lightweight, somewhat small items to put in with the candy, which is very heavy; the large piñatas have huge volume, but can only hold about 8 pounds of weight if you are planning to hang and whack them. read more

One thing I REALLY love about this neighborhood is how cheap the prices are at local businesses. I came in here to get balloons for my son's second birthday party. Walked out with a dozen of them, 4 pkgs of streamers, candles and a dozen party horns for about $11. I cannot WAIT to come back here when he's actually old enough for candy. I ended up getting a 3 layer birthday cake pinata, 2 dozen balloons blown up and some candy. Can't remember the total, but it was definitely the least amount of money I spent at any of the party stores. You need Mexican candy? Come here. I had to explain to my friend what a lot of it was, but even I wasn't familiar with a good amount! Honestly, forget going to Pilsen if you're not close to there. Come here. Stumbled in this gem one winter afternoon while trying to entertain some houseguests. If you like your goodies sprinkled with chili powder, this is the place for you. The array of pinatas is almost overwhelming (as can be the number of children running around the store on a Saturday afternoon), but the candy selection will soon distract you. I plan to pick up a bunch of thumb-shaped red lollipops (replete with frosty pink fingernails) for Halloween. I live right behind Dulce Landia, and I stop in from time to time to buy candy and check out the awesome pinatas. I'd never seen this place before I moved in behind it... It's definitely the best candy store in Chicago. They have a lot of candies which remind me of my childhood- spending summers in Italy. I found candy in here I thought didn't exist anymore! Also, the staff are really pleasant and helpful. Went here for some sugar skulls to make an ofrenda. They had 3 sizes and all are the same price per box (less large skulls per box). They also sell individually at a decent price. They do not write names on them for you though. They don't have much else for Dia de los Muertos here, but I did get a few cardboard masks. And some Halloween candy. I'm want to see the kids faces when they taste the chile in their candy. I got a few things for my own sweet tooth. I am familiar with the chile mango flavors, and the sour tamarind flavor. But what was new to me is that many of the treats here have sauces or stuff you sprinkle on top of your candy. I got a chile-mango 'spaghetti' with a tamarind sauce, which was fun and messy. I can see why kids would like it, assuming they have a spice tolerance. Definitely will be back. read more

Terrible! Bought the wrong piñata. The cashier failed to tell me that items could not be returned or exchanged without receipt. Therefore, I did not keep my receipt. I literally bought it 2 days ago and I tried to exchange it. I was given such a hard time for a simple same monetary exchange. What's worst was the fact that they had such foul attitudes. What ever happen treating customers with respect?? I guess people forget that their customers is their paycheck. If you ever go here keep your receipt. I simply wanted an exchange! Pinatalandia! They also have great roasted peanuts in the shell. When I buy them at the grocery store, the shells are huge but not the peanuts. So I get a bag full of shells and some peanuts. Here, the shell size is appropriate for the peanut size. Wow, peanut nerd. read more

It's a Mexican candy heaven in the U.S.A. The selection you find here you simply can not find any where else. I love the MINI OBLEA CAJETA..I can munch on those all day and finish a pack without realizing it! I also love the BANDERA DE COCO a bit to sweet but good on a rare occasion. They have an amazing variety of different sorts of candy, ranging from very sweet to very hot and the pinata selection is the best I've ever seen and pretty inexpensive!! If I'm hosting a party for my son's I normally spend bout 40-50 bucks and I'm set with a huge pinata, the candy fillers and tons of candy leftover for the goody bags!! read more

I will never shop here again. I needed a pinata for my daughter's 1st birthday and I went in there 10 minutes before closing. As soon as I walk in the employees tell we are closing. I said ok I just want a pinata no candy today. It will take all of 2 minutes. Then the manager kept telling me they were closing, once again I tried to explain that I just needed a pinata and I already knew the one I wanted. He kept insisting that they were closing. I went outside to tell my husband who then went inside and grabbed the cheapest looking pinata and made them ring him up.
