I'm a big fan of their green juices. They're the right pick me up when you need a fresh drink. The prices and portions are good, especially in South Beach. I liked the chicken one because it was different. This is a simple bar-stool-seating-only place that is not at all Cuban as I was led to believe on Yelp but it's got some healthy and distinct offerings plus, it's somewhat affordable in the South Beach area. The BEST reason to go here is to have one of the lovely female staffer's (from Guatemala and Honduras ) prepare you a "Café con Leche" (hot coffee with milk)! Ask for it to be prepared with "lay-chay-day-Ahvain-ah" (Oatmilk),,its DIVINE! The only negative is that the owner charges an up-charge the oatmilk. NOTE: In the center of this simple spot is a case of baked empanadas and a Colombian bun known as "Pan de Bono", I ordered two with two eggs and a medium Café con Leche for breakfast and it came to a little over $12. I'd have this simple but filling breakfast every day if I lived in the area. The pan (bread) is exactly what the Brazilian people make but they call it "Pao de Queso". I also tried their Spinach and Cheese Empanada - the server said it was "baked, not fried" but many of them had "bubbles" in the dough indicating otherwise. The empanada dough was dry and boring - stick to the "Pan de Bono", people. This is also a spot to get a variety of fresh juices and smoothies. There's a steady stream of morning customers as that is what they do BEST and they serve breakfast all the time! The small steam table offering lunch meats and staples like rice and beans was already set up when I arrived there at 8:30AM, so that's a big "no" for me. There are sandwiches but nothing too creative there, mostly meat-based. Not my speed, but perhaps it's yours. This place is open until the wee hours and while it's too brightly lit with fluorescent lights, and uncomfortable metal bar stools, the mujeres (women) behind the counter will warm your heart! My purpose was for going for a shake and pan de Bono. But they had carne asada, two types of rice, two types of beans, stew chicken, some type of sancocho and yucca. They advertise it with big sign at the entrance for $5. When I go to pay they tell me its $12? It was simple misunderstanding that was taken way overboard. The woman attending me told me in a very rude manner that it's only certain juices in the combo for that price. She didn't tell me this when I first ordered. I apologized for the inconvenience. Asked the lady if I could get another smoothie or juice that is included in $5 combo. The lady attending me flat out told me leave the restaurant because I had wasted her time and the restaurants money. I asked her if I could speak to the manager. I just wanted to get something quick and refreshing and this place was right around the corner. The prices were a little steep for smoothies with only 3 ingredients but I was in downtown Miami Beach, after all. I ordered a small Acai/Banana/Coconut smoothie ($6), and the woman began making it for me. When it was time to pay, she rang me up for $8 +tax, the price of a large smoothie. I asked her if that was a mistake, I ordered the small. She told me that they could only do the acai smoothie in large because of the acai packet...as I was looking up at the menu that stated "Acai Smoothie: Small $6, Medium $7, Large $8." I was super confused. The woman ringing me up did not communicate with me and only turned around to communicate with her coworker. I caught some of what she was saying (in spanish) and at least she seemed to be telling her coworker that they needed to fix the menu so that it didn't say small or medium for that particular smoothie. Still without saying a word to me, she removed the charge of the large smoothie and rang me up for a medium smoothie. I ordered a small smoothie so this was still not quite acceptable but this was apparently her compromise. I just wanted to get out of there at that point so I paid and was on my way. The smoothie was actually not so bad. It tasted very fresh, but the service I was given made it not so sweet! Maybe I can go back to change this 3 star to a 4 or 5 star sometime soon. read more
