I spoke to Carlo yesterday about getting a quote for my house's duct system, I gave him the measurements for my trunk line ( main artery for the HVAC system so to speak ), the number of vent lines (what goes to the registers) and length of those.. I've been working on my house so I knew where and how to measure for those. * I'm also in the construction business so I know if you can save a contractor time by providing accurate measurements on what needs to be done that that saves time & cost for whoever you're trying to hire.* Turns out it's a flat fee for a single unit system which is what mine is, so it was all for naught lol. Mr. Olcese listened patiently to me anyways as I told him all this. He gave me before and after pictures of all of my lines & I feel comfortable knowing that my HVAC system is clean & clear. I'm confident that family can breathe easier in the coming months ahead as long as we keep replacing the HVAC filter as he suggested. Our dryer vent is very long and has a sharp 90-degree angle. The day after another duct cleaning company said our dryer vent was irretrievably clogged, Carlo from Duct Clean 1974 was able to come to our house. Although he was unable to fix the clog that day, he came back the next day, after I cut a hole in the drywall so he could access the 90 degree angle in the vent. He removed a ton of wet, moldy lint and cleared the vent completely. He was prompt and polite and the price was very reasonable. I was very pleased that I didn't need to replace the entire vent as the first company stated. He said they are expanding and recently opened an office in Bealeton, VA where we live. read more

Carlo did thorough cleaning of my condominium ducts today. Took about 1.5 hours, as he had estimated. Voila! I stopped sneezing everytime the furnace comes on. He came at the agreed time, finished the cleaning expeditiously, and charged a very reasonable price. Carlo came out and walked me through the process of what he would be doing and how long the cleaning would take. He worked quickly and was very polite. My only complaint is the mess that was left behind by our vents, air returns where drywall had fallen and the dirt in our basement bathroom. Using coverings over the shoes would help and going back around to each vent and vacuuming up the dust that has fallen would be a good practice to put in place. Other than that, the house smells better when the AC turns on and the air quality seems much better. read more

I purchased the $85 deal for the dryer vent cleaning through Angie's list on a Friday. Called them to make my appointment. The earliest they said they can come out was Tuesday 10/4 so I made the appointment and they said they would be here between 11am - 1pm. I called them about 12:30 and they said they didn't have any appointments for today and my appointment was for next Tuesday. I took off work to accommodate this appointment. No apology, no accountability, nor did they try to come out earlier to make up for it. He told me that I had my days confused and yelled at me. I recommend to not use this service plus it sounds like they are running this business out of a basement. No good record-keeping, no professionalism, and no attempt to keep my business. On Saturday May 10, 2019, I had Duct Clean 1974 come to my home & clean not only my household vents, but my dryer vents & filters as well. This is the 3rd time I've used this company. But Saturday was exceptional. My technician was Brandon. Brandon was not only friendly but personable. He showed up on time. He was very knowledgeable about what he needed to do. He took the time to explain to my husband and myself what he needed to do. More than that, he explained to us why he was using certain tools. What I also appreciated about Brandon is something I look for in any company working in my home, and that is he took the time to clean up behind himself. The whole job, including the dryer took no more than an hour. I can tell he did an exceptional job because my upstairs was never this cold even with the air conditioner running. Wow! What a good summer this will be. Would I use Duct Clean 1974 again? ABSOLUTELY!!! But I am going to ask for Brandon. read more

I cannot stress enough how difficult and costly it has been to work with this 'business.' We arranged to have the company come out to a new, empty house to clean the vents/ducts as my seven-month pregnant wife has mild asthma and we both are allergic to cats (previous owners had a cat). The appointment was made two weeks in advance and was confirmed again via my wife's phone call three days prior to the appointment. The day of the appointment the owner was late; owner didn't call so we called him and he stated he couldn't come that day as his equipment was broken. When we reiterated that we needed it done before we moved in, he changed his mind and stated he could indeed come that night around 6pm, three hours later. He was late again to this, showing up at seven. Once he arrived he began cleaning; he stated that he didn't have the camera with him. As he 'finished' up we noted that several vents were not even touched. When we asked politely if he did our family room he stated he did; in fact he did not as our family members were in the kitchen next door and the vents were filthy. Because his equipment was already packed up he instead retrieved a vacuum from his van and just vacuumed the vents. I estimate he was here roughly an hour. As we paid him we asked him to return with the camera so we could see the vents and he stated he would. The next day we inspected his work and found more vents that had not been touched throughout the house. This is the worst part of working with this company....we asked him to return with the camera and to finish up the vents he 'missed'; he agreed to meet me here at 1200pm and I took the time off work. At 1220, since he was not here, my wife called him to find out where he was; he sounded aloof as if he didn't know who we were - did not know the address, etc. He instead offered to come that evening at 6pm to which my wife disagreed as unacceptable. He again changed his mind and said his assistant could come out by 1:30 and gave his word the assistant would be out with the equipment. The assistant never showed; no call, no anything. We chose this company on Angie's after reviewing several companies. Somehow this company has an 'A' rating. We purchased their Angie's list special as below: This offer Includes: One Entire system unlimited vents and returns, bathroom fans and sanitizer. Duct Clean 1974 is a family owned company with over 10 years of experience in MD, VA, and DC bonded and insured. Duct camera included as proof of cleaning. Absolutely atrocious business practices and we are extremely unhappy. Time off of work; wasted time waiting at the home, and the job still isn't done. Owner stated he 'only missed 3 out of 35 vents' (wrong) and that he didn't care about the negative review as he was not going to refund any of our money --we asked for a partial refund since he did a partial job. His reply was after 39 days of us and Angie's trying to make this work. read more

I had thought the company would do a good job based on their reputation yet the problem got worse as the laundry room became more and more like sauna each time I ran the dryer. After calling a later company, I learned that the person sent by this company had damaged the dryer vent and hadn't even cleaned the vent properly. The opening of the vent was under our deck yet the technician refused to go under the deck to clean the vent opening and instead jammed his vacuum in the laundry room vent to "clean the dryer vent." Thus, it turned out that the vent covering under the deck was jammed full of lint and was actually causing lint to come back into the laundry room. I will never use this company again as their deal was just a waste of money. In the end, I had to call a different company to properly clean my vent and fix the damage caused by this company. read more

He was professional, prompt, knowledgeable and kind. I needed my clogged dryer vent cleaned out as soon as possible, and we received same-day-service. The price was excellent, with an Angie's List 10% discount it cost $85. I couldn't be happier with this company and will use them from now on in the future." *** I never received a receipt for services rendered, and I'm still waiting for that, which was supposed to be sent to me via text. I purchased a deal on Angie's List for cleaning and sanitizing "unlimited air duct vents" and one dryer vent. When the technician arrived and realized I had two systems, I was forced to speak with a manger (Carlo I believe). He informed me that that the deal was "intended" to be for only one system, and accused Angie's list of making a mistake. I read the fine print and noted that there was no such limitation, and explained that the reason I purchased this "deal" was because of the unlimited air ducts. He said he could not honor the deal as written, and attempted to sell me the service for the second set of air ducts at full price. After spending an hour on the phone with the company and Angie's List, I ended up just having the dryer vent cleaned and having Angie's List refund the coupon. I am not sure who to blame more--Angie's List or this company--but DuctClean 1974 certainly did not provide good customer service. I wasted a day from work for practically nothing. I cannot actually check the quality of the dryer cleaning service. The technician did, however, leave dirt all over my ceiling, which I had to scrub off. He also left metal drill shavings on the floor around my furnace, which could have been ingested by my pets. In fairness, the company offered to come back and address the dirt on the ceilings and provided me with a $10 discount. It just was not worth wasting another work day and providing the obligatory two hour window for their estimated arrival. But the lack of attention (the dirt was all over the ceiling) and the negligence in leaving metal shavings on the ground (next to a litter box no less) is very concerning. I also plan to have another company check my furnace for damage, particularly the area that was drilled by DuctClean 1974. I will not use this company again. read more
