After a massive beach walk at Yellowcraigs, some food in Ducks at Kilspindie was just the place to fuel up.
Usually venture there about once annually with some friends and have a pint or too in the whiskey bar, but was egged on to try food at Donald's Restaurant. New menus daily, wow...chef is really good at his job, fresh bright food, locally sourced; find out more amazing passionate food combos from their website.
We tried Haddock and Salmon dishes, they were supported by variations of potatoes, blanched asparagus, but the chef satisfied the buttery hollandaise sauce complimenting the salmon wasn't up to standards had more brought out, not sure why he didn't notice this before it was presented, but hey it's his creation so why grump it was still devine. Not content with the main my friend who lives out of hotels due to business connections managed to easily scoff profiteroles with chocolate sauce and a latte.
Desert menu chalkboard is in their other dinning room, so has to be brought through and placed nearby to read. It was after 8pm but was unsure if the desserts change then? Service was top notch and worth it's double AA rating, bringing Ducks to the forefront of luxury dining in East Lothian. Around £40 for two mains, a dessert, coffee and two beers, didn't break the bank as I wasn't paying all the better!
Certainly, I will go back to Ducks but next year, and possibly sooner to their Edinburgh venue to see how it compares? read more
