The box of a dozen donuts my boyfriend and I brought home were gone in a DAY. We said we'd ration them out and cut each one into 1/4s for equal distribution. Maury Povich came in the front door and said "THAT WAS A LIE" because those quadrants didn't deter either of us from sneaking back into the box and getting bites. I get it now. I understand why people are so crazy about this place. I am a KK fan, through and through. Nothing will ever shake my love for the hot now sign. But the maple bacon donut at Duck Donuts has me thinking about eatin' and cheatin' 24/7. I mean, there is nothing wrong with a little circle of hot dough dipped in the maple glaze and bacon bits, but it's got to be illegal to be that good. The donuts have that crispy exterior that only foods fried in hot fat can achieve. The insides are soft, buttery and sweet: every single one, no matter the flavor of donut or what it's dipped in. It's magic, I tell ya. Ordering here was a real sh*tshow, though. There are so many options, seasonal collections, limited time offers, colors, people standing around staring at you... it's very overwhelming for a first-timer. If you can look at the menu online first and decide what you want, that will make the ordering process smoother, I think. I didn't realize the donuts were made-to-order and I wasn't aware of all of the options either, so it was a full 10 minutes of my eyes rattling around in my skull while I looked up at the menu. They have a menu taped to the front counter, but that wasn't much better because the print is tiny. I have 20/17 vision and I had a hard time focusing on the pages. I might also have a little bit of ordering anxiety, but that's another story for another day. Bottom line, Duck Donuts is solid. Will I go back? I don't know. But I was moved to buy a half dozen recently while in Winston, and ohmygawrsh these donuts are amazing. I had my first DD experience with the food truck and fell in love - so I was thrilled when they built a brick and mortar restaurant in Winston-Salem (beside my other true love, Taco Mama, no less!) There are so many options at Duck Donuts, it's truly overwhelming. I grapple between choosing to try one of the awesome new flavor combinations (tonight I saw a maple pecan feature - yum!) or stick with my old faithful creation (blueberry glaze, Oreo crumbles with raspberry drizzle - try it now, thank me later.) Point being, these donuts are off the chain. I am not normally a fan of a cake style donut, but these are hot, fresh and delicious! Not too dense, with the slightest crispiness. I pledge allegiance to Krispy Kreme with my whole heart, but Duck Donuts is the ONLY place I have found that even closely rivals Winston's beloved Krispy Kreme original glaze. I ordered delivery this morning at 8am. My order was for 2 boxes of 1/2 dozen doughnuts. We wanted to share the second box with loved ones. The confirmation email said that the doughnuts was be at my house at 9:55. That's a long wait but well worth the product. I encountered the following problems 1. Only six doughnuts were delivered 2. My $5 delivery fee was $10 3. The doughnuts did not show up until 1030 I called immediately after delivery and spoke with "the manager" who told me that the second box was being made right now. I explained my issues and asked for a refund. She refused. I asked to speak to the manager and she informed that's who she was. I asked to speak to the owner and was hung up on. I called back a second time and reached the same manager. She explained that we were cut off and that she tried to call me back but that didn't show up on my call log. She then told me that the driver was on her way back to my house and was very upset that I lived so far away, so she is going to give her two doughnuts. I asked her for a refund of the six doughnuts that are on the way to my house and told her that I refuse to take the product. She refused. She offered to give me a coupon for a free one dozen doughnuts. At this point I no longer have interest in doing business with duck doughnuts. They are too expensive and the wait time is too long. If I have an issue with the product and try to report it then I am met with hostility and hung up on. As of right now, my second box of doughnuts never showed up (as I expected) it is 1130. I do not have a coupon for one dozen doughnuts (as I refused it). And I have to contact my credit card company to contest the $32 dollars spent on 6 doughnuts. Exactly the type of morning I was picturing at 8am when I ordered these doughnuts. Not worth the trouble. Definitely go with Krispy Keme, dunkin doughnuts, or even in town doughnuts. UPDATE: I spoke with the owner who was able to refund my order today. She was apologetic and helpful. I don't think I will be ordering delivery again but I would be willing to try stopping by and picking them up if I were in the area. read more

Went for the first time today. We got a cinnamon and sugar and blueberry pancake. I wasn't really excited about them. If you are local : the donut reminds be of the ones at Cooke's flea market when I was a kid, but not as greasy. I did like the texture of the donuts it was very light and fluffy and tasted pretty good. My daughter liked her blueberry pancake, but I didn't like the icing at all. the staff was really nice and tried to help us with picking things out for our donuts. We also got lattes and they are okay, not good, not bad just okay. Overall I think they're overpriced and not really worth the money. We spent $12 for two lattes and 2 donuts. I was excited to see a DD open in W-S. The donuts are like none other. I really love the sand dollar (Duck Donuts are best eaten hot in my opinion). I was not happy with the amount of time it takes to place an order and receive the donuts. In my opinion, there needs to be an order sheet where a customer could look at the menu ahead of time and check off what they want on an order sheet. As it is now, you don't get to look at the menu until you are at the cash register. This takes a long time if you are new to DD. You have to decide on many choices and toppings which takes time. They need to improve there ordering processes. This is not a place to go right now if you are looking to dash in and get a donut and get out. 3 stars because service was so slow. 4 stars for actual donuts. read more

I took my elderly mother yesterday since we had been to duck donuts in Greensboro we were excited to find out they had open one here in winston, the facility was really small and tight and it was crowded we could barely walk once we got to ordering the cashier was nice and professional, we ordered a decaf coffee because my mother is sensitive to caffeine, the lead or who ever the cashier asked if we had decaf the other cashier made a gesture like we were crazy for asking for decaf coffee and he told the cashier helping us to tell us no we don't have any and it will take 30 minutes to make which I knew it was a lie, the cashier helping us didn't listen to him and proceeded to ask someone else a short chubby African American girl she then also made it sound like it was a huge hassle and said it would take 40 minutes and her attitude was rude and looking at us crazy for asking for decaf I understand most people ask for regular coffee but there's elderly people who can't drink regular coffee only decaf, anyways we had to drive all the way to a Starbucks to get my mom decaf coffee to enjoy with her donuts which were delicious but I won't be returning here read more
