Where to even start with this review?? Oh yes, how about that I'm fighting the urge to hop in my car and drive three hours back to OBX to get more of the amazing donuts! Duck Donuts cooks their delicious donuts in small batches so when you order they are still warm. Each donuts is glazed to order in any combination you would like. Combinations that my friend and I tried: Day 1: Cinnamon Sugar, Chocolate Coconut, Chocolate Sprinkles, Lemon Coconut. Day 2: in addition to some of the same from Day 1 we also got a Pumpkin donut, Peanut Butter Chocolate, Maple Bacon and Strawberry Chocolate. I know, I know sounds like a ton of donuts for two people but they were just way to good. The ones purchased on Day 2 were brought home with us, but I've already polished off one and taken a bit out of a few others. The only one that I'm not a huge fan of was the Maple Bacon. It might appeal to other people but it's not grown on me yet. (Maybe in the future) If you are in OBX all I can say is, Go here, Go here, GO HERE! You will thank me later. My bf was raving about getting a duck donut all weekend so had to go try it out before we left. First off, it was packed but moved fairly quickly. You fill out an order form and then give it to the cashier. Nice system. There is an assembly line of workers where each donut is made to order. This place is quick. We also ordered breakfast sandwiches with our donuts. Mm the donuts were fresh, hot, and quite delicious! I also rarely eat donuts anymore because of the health factor but I thoroughly enjoyed it. My favorite one was the maple with bacon bit toppings. The price for half a dozen is around $7. Great price for donuts. You can also order single donut. read more

OH MY GOSH. I didn't know what a donut was until I went here. Really, they shouldn't even be called donuts because they are on a completely different level than these other places claiming to be serving donuts. WOW. At $1.30 a donut, I did not find it ridiculously expensive but I can see how other people might. I love that you can customize every donut. I had to try the maple icing with bacon bits and it was SO GOOD. The coffee was ehh. I ordered iced coffee and got handed a cup of ice to go fill up with piping hot coffee--which leads to lukewarm coffee. So that was slightly disappointing. I'm sure I would've liked it if I had just ordered it hot. The line was long even though we got there 4 minutes after opening, but they had a TON of employees working and the line moved quickly. And they had a handy order sheet to keep the line moving. Way to go Duck Donuts! Thankfully I found out there is one by me in MD, so you'll know I'll be going. read more

Little cakes shaped like donuts!!! Have to say, the actual donut itself is one of the best I have eaten. My family is split down the middle between the textures of KK and DD, and these hit it right in the middle...cakey, yet fluffy. Then, they douse the poor thing in crazy amounts and combinations of sugar-y substances with a few other things. Very good stuff, but for this guy, a little too much. I think, for me, sticking to their simpler offerings is the best bet, but for sugar babies, go nuts. This review is for donuts only as I did not get to experience the donuts getting made. (My husband made a super secret early morning run for donuts on Mother's Day to surprise his mom during our trip back in May). The donuts were pretty much flawless. The box contained an assortment and everything was piping hot and looked like something out of a magazine. They were fresh as can be and you could taste all the ingredients (there was literally a donut with bacon.) There is a Duck Donuts that just opened up in Potomac Town Center in Woodbridge, VA (which is where we are from) so I am going to visit them in-person so I can experience the whole "made to order" part.
