Duck donuts was nearby and interesting in that you build your own donuts. We were heading to the nearby restaurant 843 and two hours early so we decided we needed a snack. Boy were we excited when everyone who was ordering and walking by were clearly excited to tell anyone coming in how awesome they were! This place had cake donuts with every sprinkle,sauce,and glaze you can imagine. They even had maple glaze with bacon! Yum!! Very cool and very delicious! The menu is front and back and you can check off the toppings etc for each donut individually, I suggest you buy a dozen! you pay the same with one or none topping/glaze. The price was 7.50 per 1/2 dozen, or so and we felt we got a much better product than the nearby dunkin. Watching the machine shoot out the donuts was cool too. read more

Wow, great donuts. You can basically customize each donut by glaze, syrup, and topping. Want peanut butter and bacon, they can hook you up! They have a lot of unique parings, you can get as creative or traditional as you want. Did I mention they are freshly made, warm and moist. I got 99 problems but combos ain't one... In my opinion this donut shop is just fair. If you like a cake, fall apart type of donut then you may like this donut shop. The donuts are made to order with only one kind of dough, just the toppings are different and limited. The donuts are warm thus most of the icing ends up in box. We got there with a bit of a line that didn't move, after a bit we found out that the fryer was out and they needed to heat the other one up. It was unfortunate that the worker didn't share this information with the growing crowd. Still we waited, it was fun deciding what kind of donut creation you wanted made just for you. Many icing flavors to chose from as well as different toppings and drizzles. I loved the lemon with raspberry it was very delightful. This could really be a fun place to go to if the workers interacted more with the customers such as welcoming and talking with them. Maybe it was just a stressful day. If you go be prepared to wait. Vacationing in Hilton Head and visited Duck Donuts on "National Donut Day." You could instantly smell the fresh, homemade donuts coming right out of the fryer. The ordering system is nice and easy and you get to customize your own donut! I had a glazed donut with hot fudge on top. It was quite delicious but was lacking on the fudge. I also ate a maple glazed donut with bacon bits on top. And let me tell you, that was a top notch donut! Food quality was amazing and was everything I could have hoped for! The only reason this place does not receive a 4 is because of the service today. Given it was "National Donut Day," I was expecting quite a line. Not only was that true, but it was out the door! You would think that since there was that many people there, the workers would have been on their game. That was not the case. Many workers simply standing around and having conversations with each other in the middle of 50+ customers in their store. I would like to revisit on a more casual day. No issue with the donuts as they were delicious as they always are. It was the manager giving us snide looks and visually complaining that we didn't fill out an order form. As to be so upset with us he went to the people behind us, who were the only others in line, and told them to write their order down and proceeded to fill their order. Each of the other Duck Donuts, including the original, they have never cared this much if a card was filled out. The one in my hometown could care less, especially when you have four little kids that can't make up their mind. I'm sorry Duck Donuts-Hilton Head to bother you with my business. By the time I left at 930, the line was well out the door. That'd be my only word of warning, arrive early or prepare to wait. I got there just before 9 and it took me roughly 30 minutes to wait in line, order, and get my donuts. BUT IT WAS WORTH IT! These donuts are hot and fresh, made to order. I highly recommend the cinnamon and sugar with salted caramel on top. And anything with sprinkles. Look up the menu on your phone while you're in line so you're ready to order. Not a place to sit and eat-- grab it to go and make all the folks you're traveling with incredibly happy. read more

Let me start off by saying I've never had better donuts and I've never been able to choose virtually anything I want on my donuts. This place allows you to be able to select your toppings and the donuts are made fresh (you can watch!) The reason why I'd rate this place 4 stars is because the lack of communication between customers and the staff and the overall confusion of being a new customer here. The ordering papers are very far from the door and people kept asking "is this the line?" "do we wait here??" I had heard about the legend of Duck Donuts but I have never had the opportunity to visit a location. We selected 4 donuts: chocolate midnight, blueberry, strawberry and cookies and cream. They made them right in front of us. My granddaughter was thrilled. They were beautiful. Can food be beautiful? They were also unexpectedly warm so we say outside and ate 2 of our donuts. My granddaughter, 2, loved her blueberry donut. She is a big fan of fruit, blueberries in particular. I had a taste of hers and it was yummy! I had the midnight chocolate as we sat, chocolate donut and chocolate icing. It did this chocolate lovers heart good. Awesome staff!! Patient as we took forever to decide. One lady from the back gave my granddaughter a small duck. She loves ducks as it was her first word. We will cruise by on our way out of HHI and pick up more for the trip. Amazing donuts but not worth the wait. I felt bad for the staff of two people. There was a minimum 45 minute wait. Online ordering was not available. Also, many customers were really confused with the take-out only option. Poor instructions. We placed an order for 8 dozen assorted donuts. They said the order would be ready in a half hour. Arrived on time and everything was waiting for us. The donuts were very good. The only negative comment is don't expect the usually glazed donuts (like a Krispy Kreme style). They only have a very light cake donut. Then when you get to the window they tell you they don't think that they can take your order. Perfect! We have visited other Duck Donuts locations, mostly the one in Charlotte. The Hilton Head location lives up to the standard. They seem to be working through some training/staffing challenges, maybe they have a lot of new people, but everyone was friendly and understanding. The fresh donuts were warm and tasty. Coffee was pretty good. There is not much seating, but the benches and rocking chairs at the nearby stores were sufficient. A welcome treat for breakfast. read more

They went way above and beyond when our 5 year old son ordered the wrong donut. They went ahead and made him 2 of his own donuts and brought them right to him. Made his entire day. These donuts are amazing. There are so many options that I ended up going with the summer selection and having them pick for me. Every 12 different flavors were delicious. We got there at the exact right time and didn't have to wait - just for our fresh donuts to be made - but the line got long while we were there.
