What a fun idea! Customize your own fresh warm donuts with lots of options. Don't let the long line scare you away. It moved quickly. Piece of advice, look for colored flyers at the register. Let me start off by saying I've never had better donuts and I've never been able to choose virtually anything I want on my donuts. This place allows you to be able to select your toppings and the donuts are made fresh (you can watch!) The reason why I'd rate this place 4 stars is because the lack of communication between customers and the staff and the overall confusion of being a new customer here. The ordering papers are very far from the door and people kept asking "is this the line?" "do we wait here??" This is understandable for a new business, and I hope soon I'll be able to come back and rate this place 5 stars because the staff seems like they're working towards success and the donuts are absolutely amazing! read more

I had heard about the legend of Duck Donuts but I have never had the opportunity to visit a location. We selected 4 donuts: chocolate midnight, blueberry, strawberry and cookies and cream. They made them right in front of us. My granddaughter was thrilled. They were beautiful. Can food be beautiful? They were also unexpectedly warm so we say outside and ate 2 of our donuts. My granddaughter, 2, loved her blueberry donut. She is a big fan of fruit, blueberries in particular. I had a taste of hers and it was yummy! I had the midnight chocolate as we sat, chocolate donut and chocolate icing. It did this chocolate lovers heart good. Awesome staff!! Patient as we took forever to decide. One lady from the back gave my granddaughter a small duck. She loves ducks as it was her first word. We will cruise by on our way out of HHI and pick up more for the trip. We placed an order for 8 dozen assorted donuts. They said the order would be ready in a half hour. Arrived on time and everything was waiting for us. The donuts were very good. The only negative comment is don't expect the usually glazed donuts (like a Krispy Kreme style). They only have a very light cake donut. Sometimes little kids are not sure if that's the donut they usually recognize. read more

Amazing donuts but not worth the wait. I felt bad for the staff of two people. There was a minimum 45 minute wait. Online ordering was not available. Also, many customers were really confused with the take-out only option. Poor instructions. Duck Donuts would be better off being closed if they can't find a way to service their customers better. read more

Cool experience with kids for sure. Donuts are delicious and the options are endless. Are these the best donuts out there? No, but defintely above average. You're guaranteed fresh warm donuts which is not the norm in the donut game. Probably the best quality donut on Hilton Head island. read more

Waited in line for 45 minutes to get to the door and then say it's an hour wait to get food. They should have let people know the wait time while in line. Then when you get to the window they tell you they don't think that they can take your order. They do not have a separate line for pick up so it's mass chaos because people are skipping line to get their pick up. Needs different management because what is happening now clearly doesn't work. Perfect! We have visited other Duck Donuts locations, mostly the one in Charlotte. The Hilton Head location lives up to the standard. They seem to be working through some training/staffing challenges, maybe they have a lot of new people, but everyone was friendly and understanding. The fresh donuts were warm and tasty. Coffee was pretty good. There is not much seating, but the benches and rocking chairs at the nearby stores were sufficient. A welcome treat for breakfast. read more

Not only do we love the donuts and the fun creating our own donuts, but the staff at this location was amazing on our last visit. They went way above and beyond when our 5 year old son ordered the wrong donut. They went ahead and made him 2 of his own donuts and brought them right to him. Made his entire day. These donuts are amazing. There are so many options that I ended up going with the summer selection and having them pick for me. Every 12 different flavors were delicious. We got there at the exact right time and didn't have to wait - just for our fresh donuts to be made - but the line got long while we were there. The staff was incredibly friendly and provided great service. The woman making the donuts showed me them before she closed the box so I could make sure they were perfect - which they were! What a gem we ran into. There was already a long line when we got there and boy oh boy. It was worth the wait. You customize your own donuts that you watch them make. With whatever toppings and glazes you want in them. It was organized and fast. We walked out with our customized and very HOT donuts. read more

Donuts fresh-fried & glazed/coated to order sounds great, and tastes even better. But very few edibles are worth an hour's wait, and I'm still wondering if our Duck Donuts were. Hilton Head businesses were slammed during the week following Easter, and most of the clerks I spoke to were blindsided. So my hour's wait @ DD was not entirely their fault. But Thomas Keller has a saying: "have a sense of urgency". There was absolutely no urgency @ DD. Three clerks, two making donuts, and working as if they had carbon monoxide poisoning. There had to be about 75 people waiting for donuts - either on line to order, or then waiting to get their order filled. As a contrast, I'll use Chipotle restaurants back home on Long Island. Those burritos fly across the prep line. I think that Chipotle could feed Zapata's army before DD could glaze a single donut. I don't mean to be a pushy New Yorker, and I get that things move at a different pace down south, but I was starting to wonder if it was going to be a breakfast-for-dinner situation. This place is absolutely amazing. My fiancé and I were on vacation in Hilton Head and we were here 3 times in one week. Not only were the donuts AMAZING, but the staff was so personable and friendly. It felt like we'd been regulars for years. To top it all off Scott is the best. We got engaged on Thursday and went back on Saturday and let him know. He gave us donuts as an engagement gift. Waited in line 30 minutes. When I got to the door to order, the worker completely ignored my presence and handed someone behind me an online pick up order. Had to ask her if I could get a menu in order to be acknowledged at all. She said "Let me go ask the kitchen if we can take orders right now. We have a lot of pickup orders." She came back and said "it's going to be an hour wait." No mention of this to anyone in the long line that this was the case. Terrible service. Terrible system. Don't know the quality of the food because I didn't have two hours to spare for a donut from someone who doesn't care to acknowledge a customer's existence or well-being.
