Not sure if this is a chain or not but the donut shop we visited was in a shopping plaza. Long lines usually indicate, it's a popular place. That was for sure the reason. Small shop with made to order donuts. Hot inside but worth the wait and visit. Order 6 donuts( different types ) They have like 30 or so to choose from. We ordered the S'mores, Blueberry pancake, chocolate sprinkles, peanut butter, a lemon one and a maple bacon. All were devine. Come hot and fresh. Definitely a knife and fork needed with extra napkins. Flavor blast throughout every bite. About $2.50 per donut or about $13 for a half dozen. The donuts are amazing BUT someone needs to manage the kids behind the counter. There is a lot of walking around socializing and not moving the orders along. I sat for 10 minutes while not one was processed but a lot of talking and socializing was going on while the orders piled up and the line got longer. We had Duck Donuts delivered on a rainy morning and were surprised the doughnuts still tasted fresh out of the oven. Sometimes you sacrifice quality when you get things delivered but that was not the case. My favorites were the bacon and blueberry but all were so good. My mom and I stopped this morning at Duck Donuts for their donuts. They have about 50 different flavors of donuts that are available all day every day from 7 AM to 5 PM. They also have about 12 different seasonal donuts to pick from. My mom did a coconut donut and a sunrise donut for $2.75 a piece. Everyone inside was super friendly and very nice regarding questions about their donuts. It's a bit overwhelming so maybe look at the menu before you go. They have these pre-sorted boxes that you can choose from that's what's on the wall or on the glass when you walk in you can watch them make the donuts, but to be honest if I were you check them out online ahead of time pre-order walk in grab it and go. I first heard of Duck Donuts about five years ago when I told a neighbor I was heading South for a week. I've since been to HHI every April, but never seemed to find the time to pop in. This year on my last day on the island, I woke up early and headed to Duck Donuts for a 6 pack of hit Donuts for the fam. I arrived just before they opened, and had to wait for the oil to heat up. This gave me the opportunity to peruse the menu board and start the process of elimination of for my order. I also got to the chance to get to know the owner and his team (mom offered free coffee while I waited). I was surprised to find out there are over 100 DDs across the South. The owner then plucked the first hot donut off the conveyor belt, dipped it in cinnamon and handed it to me as a reward for my patience. WOW. I used to be one of those guys, that would cut over 4 lanes of traffic to grab a hot Krispy Kreme when the orange light was lit. For this donut, I'd drive the wrong direction the length of Interstate 95. It literally melted in my mouth. I almost didn't need to chew. A cold glass of milk would have put me in ecstasy. Before I knew it, the young girl at the toppings table started to make the toppings of my 6 pack. It was like watching Picasso create a master piece. I'm not even sure what to call what she did. She took these utensils that resembled a wooden spoon and after dipping the donuts in a topping, she would drizzle flavorings like raspberry sauce over the top. When she was done, She handed me a box of donuts that was as warm as a pizza box. I had to make the tough decision of placing the box in the back seat of the car so I wouldn't eat the donuts on the way home. You know how people live vicariously through their kids? That's how I felt watching my wife and kids eat 4 of the donuts in the box. I imagined it was me eating the various topped donuts they picked. I enjoyed my two donuts (Raspberry Fluff and Coffe cake) while the family bestowed accolades on me for grabbing them a surprise treat on the final day on the island. It was kind of funny, we were in the strip mall where Duck Donuts is, not knowing it was there, and my boyfriend says "you know what I could really go for right now? Duck Donuts." I can't even tell you how happy he was to find it. We had indulged plenty the days before, so we only got one donut. I had never been to one of these, so he showed me how to order. We created our own donut with lemon raspberry flavoring. I'm not a big fan of donuts to begin with, but this one was really tasty. First of all the owner of this establishment is the greatest, me and my fiance are both first responders and expecting a little one. He treated us like family. He gave me a free donut to sample and was just so sweet! Told us to come back and see him once our little one is born and we absolutely will. The donuts are different because they are warm and freshly made. All the donuts are more of a cake style donut, but the freshness and diverse options as far as toppings make these the best donuts you will ever have!
