Great donuts but very rude service. I placed an online order that said it would be ready at 10. At 10:20 it was not ready yet. I tried to get a staff member's attention which is difficult to do as they basically ignore customers when they are making the donuts. When I finally did, I was told it would be another 45 minutes. I said that the app said the order would be ready at 10 and asked if they could therefore prioritize our half a dozen donuts. Her response was: "We make them in the order it comes in. It doesn't matter what time the app says. Your choice is to wait in line or get a refund." I was appalled that they would treat a customer that way. I went to the line where you place the orders and spoke to the manager. He ultimately did have them make my order. However, he said "It's really hard to manage online orders and in person orders. It just doesn't work." First, I get they were busy. However, if your store does both online orders and in person, you need to figure out a way to make that work. For example, do the in person orders as they come in and fill the online orders based upon the time they are supposed to be ready. Secondly, it is unacceptable for staff to speak to customers like they did. It shows you don't value your loyal customers. read more

Bottom Line: Good made-to-order donuts but not worth the wait at the OG location. While passing through the area on a summer Wednesday morning about 9am my husband and I decided to give the original Duck Donuts a try. We waited about 30 to 35 minutes for two donuts and had we known the wait time we would have skipped it. Anyway, here are the logistics of ordering donuts at this location. As many other Yelpers have noted, you go in one store front to place your order for donuts, get drinks and purchase merchandise. Then, you exit that storefront and head across the breezeway to the second store front where they are making the donuts. In theory you wait inside for your number to be called and watch the donuts being made. But, when I was there there were about 40 people waiting for donuts and room for only about 15 people inside. Given that, we had to keep trying to pop in to see what number they were on or ask others as they were exiting. An electronic ordering board that visually displays the orders in process and orders ready for pickup is sorely needed for the busy season, to say the least. As far as the type of donuts, they have one kind - cake donuts. Then you can get your cake donuts glazed, frosted and sprinkled with various flavors. I like a glazed donut with rainbow sprinkles and chocolate drizzle while my husband goes for a maple bacon flavor profile. For drinks they have coffee, cold brew, tea and various bottled beverage Many people were walking out with a dozen donuts so while there were only about 22 orders ahead of us I bet that nearly equates to around 250 donuts. Given that, it was a long 30 to 35 minute wait for our two donuts. With coffee in hand, which is what I really needed, we debated leaving but eventually got our donuts. There are a few places to sit outside and eat but we opted for an air conditioned car over the hot sun. The parking lot is small and with long wait times it doesn't turn over quickly. We parked up the street in another shopping center and walked over. For me, Duck Donuts in Duck is a one and done, unless it's the off season. read more

They chain of restaurants has expanded beyond the Outer Banks, but those restaurants do not compare to their home restaurants. Oh my goodness! I have had these donuts before, but each time is like a great new experience. These are so delicious. It was great sampling 6 of the customer favs and then taking a walk on the boardwalk. Now I have had many donuts in my life and I have to say these guys are some of the best I have had in a long time. They easily rank in my top 5 and that's within all of my travels around the world. They have a ton of different yummy flavors or you can even just build one exactly how you want it. I highly recommend coming here in the next fee weeks as they are doing a ton of different Halloween type flavors. The one that I loved was this maple bacon type flavor with a raspberry "blood" on it.
