If you want the opposite of what you order then this is the place for you. If you don't care for napkins and prefer to dry your mouth on your sleeves, then this place is for you. If you want diet sugar and you have to ask the waitress who brings you a box full of sweet n low instead of a small variety of sweeteners, then this place is for you. If you like coffee and should be on a caffeine diet, then this place is for you because the cups are small and the saucers catch what little coffee you have to drink. The potatoes for the breakfast was bland, but if you like tasteless raw potatoes then look no further. I won't be coming back. Oh, one of the waitresses came to my table; said good morning, and then took some of cream off my table. That was funny. read more

Duchess Diner - Diners Near Me - Stratford, Connecticut

Look this is a diner, and a 24 hour one at that. If you expect cheap diner food while your drunk at 2am this will do. The food is your typical diner food at typical diner prices. Nothing special, nothing drastic, lower your expectations people. read more

Portions are very stingy.Ham n Swiss ONE slice ham/ONE slice Swiss on a kaiser roll no less. Are you kidding me? Sufficient amount of pulled pork. A leaf of lettuce on bottom bun would have prevented it from becoming soaked , falling apart and making a mess. However, while the turkey n bacon on wheat berry bread slightly lacked in turkey, it made up in flavor with the honey mustard n wheat berry bread. With sufficient filling, I would give this sandwich 5 stars. read more

My waitress's idea of how to Do her job, was to sit in a booth and look at her phone. I very dissapointed in her service. Usually good at this restaurant. I had to ask the manager to get my waitress for me, he simply told her I was ready to order. Once my food arrived, my empty drink say on the table till after I was done eating. My drink was water!!! This is usually a free re-fill item. When the manager had to alert my waitress I was ready for the check I thought for sure he would tell her to put her phone away and pay attention to her customers, but no. After dropping off my check without so much as a thank you, back to the phone. Good job duchess diner for turning off a customer who once liked your service. It is this managers attitude that really did it for me. read more

curly fries & chocolate chip pancakes, 24 hours with nice staff, new years tradition

I love coming here! The waitstaff is always so kind and friendly. The food never disappoints. It's my favorite place to eat!!

Rude staff: I called in an order and stood right in front of the guy at the register for 4 minutes while he completely ignored me and yelled a conversation with someone 20ft away at the counter Cheeseburger was ok, fries were disgusting and soggy and the coleslaw smelled funny. My boyfriend liked his roastbeef sandwich but they forgot his onions. I only went there because Blue Sky was closed, but I won't be going back. read more

forget these incredibly biased and uneducated reviews, for a diner this place is pretty decent. Straight to the point. - lots and lots of options, but a clear organized menu. -despite the variety, they do a decent job on just about all areas, no lack of focus in certain areas. - dinner entrees are excellent, much better than ihop. - you get what you paid for, good honest prices and good generous portions. nothing sneaky. -big and spacious. - surprisingly good lamb. they are able to pull of off the greek flavor they try to add. for a diner level at least as to why some people are dissastisfied.... -short staffed, simply not enough servers to go around. empty coffee cups and missing silverware. - home fries need work, its one of the foundations of a diner, and they need to be golden brown, crispy on the bottum, and lightly seasoned, not mushy and bland. -eggs, anothrr foundation they need to work on. often overcooked... omelettes are dry and often slightly burnt. scrambles are dry and crumbly... should be soft and moist with a good hint of butter. read more

I'm definitely not coming back again, I've been there twice and both times sucked, the food was literally inedible, everything was super dry with stale bread. On the other hand, our waitress was a sweetheart. PERIOD. read more

Why am I too stupid to read the other Yelp reviewers before I go to a restaurant like this? I called in an order for pickup. When I got there the guy ask me for my money as if the order was ready, took my money and then walked away to the back. At that point I thought maybe my order was in the back. I then saw him making my order from scratch from the beginning. I can't leave because he's already taking my money. So when he comes back I asked him " let me ask you a question: what did you think I meant when I called in an order for pickup?" He then argumentatively retorts back, " let me ask YOU a question: why does someone call in an order for pickup late at night?" I told him the person was probably tired and didn't want to watch an order being made from scratch. He proceeded to argue more but I simply asked for my money back and left. Frankies Diner is much better tasting than this place and has better service too. This Diner I admit is in a better location and looks nicer but is actually dirty and has so many problems that you're better off driving to the other Diner. If you don't believe my review rebar the many others and don't call you order ahead because it's a total waste of time this guy does not know how to take orders over the phone. read more

The most horrible service I've ever experienced!! The food was good. Compliments to the chef on that but the old man with the white mustache threw our menu's on the table and didn't say a word. The waitress was rude and rushy. We had just been seated and she said "what do you want?" Like excuse me?? Never again.. read more

First of all, the temperature was fine and we had plenty of napkins :) Our waiter Dave was amazing! Super nice and attentive! The food was great and came out quickly. We all had breakfast food and it was cooked to perfection. I would definitely come here again and again. read more

Arriving for dinner at 5:30 on a Thursday night revealed a mostly empty restaurant. We were told to pick a seat. Menus were dropped on our table. A server appeared in short order with two glasses of water and our dining utensils wrapped in a napkin. The menu is extensive. Breakfast lunch and dinner are all available. There are baked, broiled, fried and cold options along with a robust desert menu. Food arrives at the table in dribs and drabs. The salad arrived the dressing came on a second trip. Some of the soup had slopped onto the plate the cup rested on. Entrees arrived with the sides coming minutes later. We were a table of two. Jack of all trades, master of none may best describe what you should expect. Mashed potatoes, were instant, served with gravy from a mix with pimento added to it, resulting in a yellow sauce with red bits. The turkey dinner was actually turkey roll, not roasted turkey. The bread was homemade, as was very good. The salad was crisp and the Italian dressing was good. The iced tea was fresh brewed. The cauliflower was fresh. Broccoli was not offered at my table but was served to another. The portions are large, the price is fair, the quality, while better than fast food, is not what I would expect at a hometown diner. Do not expect a warm and welcoming feeling, it does not exist here. From being seated to placing our order, we appeared to be a bother to the staff. Should I be in this area again, I will not be a return guest. read more

Our waitress was super rude on top of the fact that it took a half hour just to get our menus. She left the table after taking the order and got an attitude when we asked for drinks. Our food took about an hour to come out and it wasn't good enough to have waited so long. It's also very old and dirty. Don't come here. Ever read more

New to Stratford. Stopped by here with my best friend after spending sometime at the bank got hungry and got hungry. I ordered a chili dog she ordered chicken parm. Her chicken was extremely dry, breading was burned and barely any sauce. The chilli was sub par, all dried out. Could instantly tell it's been sitting for a long time. read more

I'm posting this review out of concern- I honestly don't believe these negative reviews reflect the experience of eating here. I live 2 blocks away from Dutchess Diner. I eat there all the time and I can't remember being that dissatisfied even once. I'm not calling the negative reviewers liars, but maybe there's a tendency to post a review when you've had a bad experience. Anyway, I think the service and the food is identical to the many other diners in the area. It's diner food.... not outstanding but appropriate. One diner in the area stands out in my mind, the Bridgeport Flyer diner in Milford. The quality of their food stands out, but the diner is often very crowded and noisy. read more

Very mediocre at best. Gross bathroom. Guys at register are cheap and will steal your change.

Not the best restaurant in town. Inconsistent service, nice people but slow. I asked to substitute pancakes for the stuff that comes with an omelette and they said no. My kids ordered chocolate chip pancakes while I ordered regular and they gave us some chocolate chip and some regular. And it took then forever to bring us the check. Also, their set up was poor. Tables in odd places. They sat us at the same table as another group. Crazy. And then as we were leaving someone was smoking right outside the front door. Eat somewhere else. read more

We've been to Duchess Diner several times now. Staff has always been accomodating and friendly. I was worried by previous reviews, but have been pleasantly surprised each visit. The prices are good for the quality and amount you're served. We've had breakfast, lunch and dinner here. It has not been a disappointment. read more

Traveling through from South Georgia, we stopped in and got supper. The service was spot on - very promptly seated and the waitress was very helpful and friendly, offering suggestions when asked. The food came quickly and was excellent. I ordered breakfast and my wife ordered a sandwich. We stayed nearby overnight and will probably drive back for breakfast this morning. read more

Goodburger nice staff. Cant complain. Since i stopped here after losing my car after the two roads Oktoberfest. Doh!

I ordered the roast pork dinner special to go last night and it was great. The entire meal tasted homemade. The portions were huge and the price was very reasonable. This was the second time in two days that I had one of their dinner specials. The night before I had the stuffed cabbage which was also very good. I was pleasantly surprised that the food here reminds me of my grandmother's cooking. Homestyle cooking at its best. When I picked my food up the waitstaff was very welcoming. I will return often for more homestyle meals. read more

Stay away!!! Horrible food, unfortunately the same guy who bought Jerry's Pizza across the street also bought this place, and managed to ruin them both. This use to be the "go to" diner in Stratford, now the food is gross and grossly overpriced. read more

The place has gone down hill over the years but today was my worst experience. Ordered a wrap and upon eating it I realized there was a long dark hair in the wrap. Whatever I wasn't going to make a fuss and just wanted my check to leave. Waited 30 minutes for the waitress (other than my table of 2 there was 1 other table in there) while she hung out in the kitchen. Ended up asking the cashier for my check because apparently she couldn't be bothered. If you choose to come here please avoid the red headed waitress as she is by far the worst server I've had in my entire life. read more

If I could give it a zero I Would. The worst service I ever had. I gave this place three tries. The first I was never offered a second cup of coffee on a slow Sunday afternoon. The second try was good. The third time we got told "F YOU" over toast one that we asked for wheat dry, and the other light butter. The person at the cash register, which I would only assume has to be some relation to the owners barely said I'm sorry. If your looking for a diner with great food and service may I Recommend the Bridgeport Flier Across the bridge. read more

I was just here with my husband on Monday 9/3 for breakfast and got food poisoning that put me in the hospital. The place was filthy. Went to use the bathroom while there and upon entering the bathroom and my shoes sticking to the floor, it was obvious the bathroom hadn't been cleaned in a long time. The owner and other worker(i believe his son) looked equally disheveled and unkept. Will NEVER return! read more

Literally made a yelp account just to express my opinion on this diner. Would give 0 stars if I could. The place is not clean and some of the staff are really rude. The food isn't even that great and the service is mediocre. Wouldn't recommend to anyone. If anyone is looking for a good diner locally, there is one down the road called Blue Sky Diner and it is amazing!! Better than this place. read more

This diner used to be one of favorites, but recently I had a very bad dining experience. I order the prime rib, as I have done in the past often. I always order my meat medium rare. I eat here all the time, so staff know me. My order came well done. I asked the waitress to correct this. Next thing I know, she's talking about the issue at the other end of the diner, then the plate I sent back was returned to me and I was told that's all I could get. I told her this was not acceptable. The manager got involved and he was no help either. Me and my date left and refused to accept meat cooked not to order. I was really disappointed, angry, and humiliated by staff talking about our issues with others in the diner. I don't know what's going on with this place, but food and service are going down hill. Buyer beware. read more

Me and my mother used to frequent this diner years ago when the old owner had it. We've recently seen big crowds so we figured we'd give it a try and see how it was. We were seated and the original booths from way back when are still there. The waitress (Charlene) that took our order was quite rude....and just plain not nice. My mom commented it was getting colder out to her.....and she igonored my mom. Mom said it again....and said....oh hon I guess you didn't hear me. And she snapped at her saying.....I HEARD YOU.....and stomped off. I got the chicken orzo soup and mom got the beef vegetable. Both soups were very good!!!!!!!! Actually the soup was the only good thing about the meal. Mom got the veal and peppers....and it was loaded with mushrooms....and she hates them. Was very watery too. She ordered it over mashed potatoes and the waitress just ordered it over rice. I got the meatloaf. WHAT A BIG MISTAKE THAT WAS!!!!!!!!! It was like spiced dog food......cooked to hell!!!!!!!!!! Totally BLECHHHHHH!!!!!!! Mom didn't complain about not getting mashed potatoes.....cause this woman was already bitched out. Then before we left mom seen that the waitress was wearing some kind of charms necklace. She went to touch one to look at it....and the waitress backs up....and looks at mom very evil and says......I don't like being touched.....DON' T YOU TOUCH ME!!!!!!!!!!! I wonder what kind of training this woman got and where she got it from.......she definitely doesn't have any customer service skills whatsoever!!!!!!!!! So....all in all......food bad.....service bad.....DON'T GO!!!!!!!!! Total waste of time and money!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I didn't want to post any review about this horrible place but I can't get the incident off my mind. Last month about 8 friends and myself went to this diner after a night out. We were having a great night and always go to this diner for we enjoy the food/ reasonable pricing. Two of my friends were in deep conversation about politics. I understand this isn't a topic many people enjoy but they were not in heated conversation, however the waitress did not like one of my friend's opinions. She never brought him his order OR EVEN WATER for that matter. We spoke to the owner after we received our checks about this issue. My friends were talking to him (all my friends are male, I should add. I am the only female in our group). I opened my mouth to talk to the owner and he put his hand in my face. His hand was out straight in my face to tell me to not talk. I was jaw dropped stunned. I never experienced sexism in my life until that moment. I tried to speak again and he put his hand in my face AGAIN and said SHHH. I left this diner crying and in disbelief. Do not give this place your money they are horrible horrible people. I absolutely love Bridgeport Flyer diner if you are looking for a good diner with great food and prices. read more

I wouldn't even give this place a one star that's how awful this place is, I ordered a chicken cutlet sandwhich and one half didn't even have chicken on it, and it's so overpriced! I live right around the corner from this diner, so i thought it would be an easy process to call in a simple order. When i called it in the person who answered the phone couldn't handle it so he passed me onto one of the waitress's. All i wanted was a large house salad with grilled chicken and one small house salad. didn't think this would have been a difficult order to make. Got there 15/20 minutes after i called it in. (thinking this was plenty of time) And low and behold my order wasn't even ready! I had to wait now for another 20/30 minutes for my order. the man who claimed to be the manager never once left the register. i felt sorry for the two waitress's who were taken care of everything and anything. when my food finally came out the manager wanted to charge me $14. I didn't think it was very fair to charge me full price for a meal that should have taken 10 minutes to make not an hour! I asked him to discount it in some way and he refused. He said he didn't have the power to do that. What manager does not have to the power to make sure his paying customers are happy. If the waitress weren't so apologetic and explaining to me that there new cook was an idiot. i would have left. and on top of it all when i got home and opened my salad it wasn't even made correctly like i asked for it. i asked for a house salad with no onions and pepper. there were peppers in it and I'm pretty sure there was feta cheese as well I HATE FETE CHEESE!!!. Glad to see the manager is just a cashier and not making sure his business is operating to it's full potential. I praise the two waitress for working hard and dealing with his incompetence. read more
