If the TV sitcom Friends was taped in Western NC, it would have been done here. They have delicious sandwiches, sides and of course gourmet coffee. They have all of the expected coffee bistro drinks, plus teas, ice cream, shakes and delectable desserts and pastries. They also offer daily specials such as a soup of the day, and Philly Steak and Cheese sandwiches on Friday. There are hand crafted wooden tables, a bar like counter top with stools or multiple comfy over stuffed chairs and couches to relax in. They do have one computer available for Internet use to paying customers, so you might have to wait a bit. I don't know if they still offer this, but at one point the owner was offering a knife cutting skills class in the evenings, which I would have taken had I had the time. They also offer bagged ground coffee, t shirts, mugs and artwork by local artists for sale. They are very active in the community, offering brochures on area services like Health Care, Care giver or maintenance services, local school events and basically anything else that goes on in the quiet town. The only negative thing I can say about D.T.s Blue Ridge Java is that they are closed on Sundays, but I guess even God had to rest one day. read more

Excuse my language here...but...I f*ing LOVE this place! I remember this place when it opened on Upper St. as a hole-in-the-wall ice cream, smoothie, milkshake, candy, coffee place in 2002. My best friend and I would often come in here and then one day two years later, it's closed. We were so sad and couldn't figure it out. That is, until we saw a sign that it was being moved to Lower St. in a bigger space! It even still has "Macy's" inscribed where the welcome mat would usually go. When they finally re-opened it was completely, and I mean completely renovated. It looked like an over-sized living room with couches and bar tables. Art hangs on the walls for that warm cozy feeling. There are always clean restrooms and there's a room in the back or large parties. They also have a computer with internet for patron use. Delicious, fresh deli food and soups. I can't stress enough the "fresh" part. It's nothing like a chain restaurant like Subway. Their Italian Sodas are amazing as well as their coffee drinks. Screw Starbucks (but the Creamy Frozen Latte is the equivalent of a frappuccino). Oh, something not on the menu? Tell them and they'll usually whip it up. I usually get their Iced Italian Latte with a shot of vanilla (not on the menu). I have spent many hours in here with friends chit-chatting away. While I used to live in Spruce Pine (thus how I watched their transformation) I now live in Houston, TX but still make it a point to come in here when I visit. This is the meeting spot when I come into town to share pictures and stories. DTs has also employed many friends I know, so it really is a family hometown place. read more

Quaint little place but some of the items are over priced for the small portions you get. If you don't mind that the service is great and the food is good. I stop by once in a while but I don't drink coffee. I imagine for someone that loves coffee and sandwiches it's great. read more

We have been coming to Spruce Pine for five years now and today was the first time we stopped into this cafe. We were highly impressed with the food/service and enjoyed the atmosphere the owner Trish has brought to life within the store. This made our drive to Spruce Pine worth it. We decided to leave Asheville for a day and finally go driving up toward Spruce Pine and Boone, since we'd never been, and I'm glad we came during the slow season. Most of town was closed because apparently that's something that one normally does on Monday, but this place was hopping. Every person behind the counter was amazingly friendly, and you know immediately that this place is staffed with people who truly care about the well-being of the business and its customers. Great coffee and a very nice Blue Ridge Roast Beef sandwich and a side. I chose mac salad. The sandwich was full of roast beef lettuce tomato mayo on sourdough very fresh and their latte delicious as well as their French vanilla iced coffee. Will be going back as often as possible. Don't hesitate, give it a try. Spent a few minutes checking reviews for some local Spruce Pine grub and stumbled upon this place. We couldn't have made a better choice. Perfect for the family. The owners and staff are warm, friendly and helpful without being overbearing. We made a meal of a sandwich combo (cheesesteak Po'boy for me and roast beef for the wife) and grabbed a cup of coffee and a Danish on the way out. Delicious!!! Can't beat it. It's too bad we needed to get back to Charlotte in a bit of a hurry, or I'd have stayed and gotten comfortable. DT's is the type of place I spent much of my twenties and I couldn't help but reminisce. I wish I could pick this place up and move it to my neighborhood. The food and service is great! You can always tell when owners really care about their business by putting customers first. You can see how it all falls in line by the quality of food and service you receive at DT's. Highly recommended. This place is almost surprisingly trendy, ticked away in the storefront of this small mining community. Food was enjoyed by everyone in family. Kids liked the gourmet hit dogs. Older son enjoyed burger on flat bread. Wife loved the grilled pimento cheese sandwich. I had a croissant and parfait from the amazing pastry case. Milkshakes are exceptional. I am in the place as I write and it is great! This is a small town café on one of the 2 main streets. The food is good and reasonably priced. I just saw one of the employees cleaning off a table as soon as the last customers left. When she saw a customer who walked with a cane having difficulty with the door, she rushed to hold it open for them. The place is clean, efficiently run and frequented by a lot of locals (always a good sign). They serve breakfast sandwiches and a broader lunch menu...all good. I will defiantly come back. read more

This was one of the best places I've ever eaten, no exaggeration! My family and I went here for breakfast and had the most delicious breakfast sandwich. It was so good we decided to come back later in the same day to try their dinner sandwiches, which were equally as delicious! Strongly recommended! Great, quick service with a smile as well.
