I took my car in because I felt my transmission kicking when it was shifting gears. They said they ran diagnostics on my vehicle and nothing was wrong and all I needed was a new battery. Two weeks like my transmission completely failed. I paid $240 for those to diagnostics tests and now I'm completely out of a vehicle. I called them and told them the situation, (Moses) the guy working there made very snarky comments to me then hung up. I have a 2010 BMW and this is my first time having any issues with it. I was nervous about taking it to a shop besides the dealership because of horror stories I've heard from other friends who also have foreign cars about hack jobs and unexpected costs. My fiance and I called around and he found DS Auto Experts who is certified to work on my car and told me to drive it in. From the moment I drove in to the time I picked up they were very welcoming and professional. I had a free check engine light scan, and then agreed to do a full diagnostic since more than one issue popped up. They gave me an itemized list of services that letty (my car) needed and price range. Not once did I get any surprises as they were very honest and upfront. I was still skeptical (because of previous bad experience) that when they called me to tell me that my car was ready I asked " how much more is it" Moses laughed and assured me the cost didn't change.They were also very informative with what services needed to be done and sent me informational videos which actually did help to me understand what they would be doing. When my van needed to have replaced the manifold exhaust due to smog, it have been delayed for 5 -1/2 weeks due to Covid19 (that was okay with me), then they informed me that they tested it, they heard the knocking engine, they shut it down immediately, they pushed it outside and parked. I really am not sure about what happened but that I have been wondering when they took off my old manifold converter exhaust before they installed new manifold converter exhaust, the small object may fell into the hole of manifold??? Then it suddenly my engine needed replacement $9000-$13,000. Sighs... we asked other mechanics if they could check and see anything of object/s on the top of pistons but they weren't interested because they hate legal issues and they don't want to deal with my lawyer. So we just moved on, I forgave them that it could be when it was accident that the part fell in it that they may not know it. We lost our van and sold it to the junk yard. Have a good day. I had set an appointment with this business for a small oil leak to be checked out and get repaired. I arrived at my scheduled time and checked in. The guy in the front got some quick information and took my car to the back. He told me he was going to do a quick power wash under my car and use some oil dye for the leak. I asked how much is that going to cost. He then told me to ask the manager next to him who was on the phone. He heard my question and looked at me and proceeded with his casual conversation which was not business related. As I waited for his conversation to end I told the first guy to wait on doing any work on my car before I get an answer to my question for the price. The manager got off the phone and told me it's going to cost $309.00 plus tax to wash my car and put some oil dye to spot the leak. I was shocked and told them never mind Thats too much for washing my car and some oil dye. The manager rudely told the worker "get his car outta here". I responded back saying the price is something you should discuss with customers before. The manager said "whatever". I'm glad I asked before they did the job. We are in a time where people don't have a lot of money or out of a job because of Covid. This business isn't helping with gauging their prices up for a car wash and oil dye. Summary: D S Auto Experts performed an unnecessary diagnostic costing $110 and wanted to charge me double what competitors quoted. Told me lies about amount of labor involved in repair. Full Story: Had my car towed to D S for what I strongly suspected to be a dead alternator. Told this to the service member, Moses, I spoke to over the phone and wrote it in the notes that I left with the keys in the lockbox since D S was closed for the weekend. Monday rolls around and I get a call from Moses explaining that a diagnosis costing about $110 dollars is needed in order to figure out what is wrong with my car. I once again tell Moses that I suspect the alternator and ask him if they could first check that in order to avoid an unnecessary diagnosis. Moses explained to me that they had already checked the alternator and that they had ruled it out as the issue. I even asked him if they had put power to the car, which is a simple and basically cost free way to check the alternator (starting the car and then seeing if it stalls due to no power being generated), and he said yes. Since Moses said that the alternator had been ruled out and needed to know what was wrong with my vehicle before deciding to get it fixed or scrap it (old car that I don't want to sink more money into), I gave Moses the green light to run the diagnosis. A couple of hours later I get a call back from Moses. He begins the conversation with asking me why I suspected the alternator. I re-told him the symptoms that the car had and how it behaved before it quit on me, and how the engine would not even try to turn over since the battery was depleted. After I was done explaining to him why I suspected the alternator, he told me that I was in fact correct in my hypothesis and that they ran the diagnosis on my car and the electrical system was ok. He went on to tell me that once they had charged my battery back up, the car started right up and they were able to measure the alternator output and see that it was not functioning. So, at this point I am already being billed $110 to be told something that I knew, or at least highly suspected, all along. Though I was unhappy for the unnecessary diagnosis I asked Moses the cost for the repair needed. He initially priced the repair at $700 or so. Though price included the diagnostic, it was still more than I was willing to invest in the old car, and I thought that it was excessive considering what I knew of the repair. Moses went on to do some "research" to see what could be done, but the best thing he could come up with was $560 and that was the lowest he could go since the repair was a laborious process that required considerable dismantling to reach the alternator. He went on to say that if I gave the go ahead on the repair, it would take some time to repair the car and it would likely not be done until the evening of the following day. I let Moses know that I could not afford the repair and that I would be by as soon as possible to relieve them of my car. In reality I no longer trusted D S and wanted my car out of there. Before picking my car up, I did some research on my car and called area mechanics. My research and conversations with mechanics confirmed that the alternator replacement for my car was a simple process that could be accomplished in about an hour. The area mechanics quoted me prices from $200 - $300 for the repair. One mechanic even offered to charge me only for labor ($60 p/h) if I provided my own replacement alternator. When I finally picked up the car, I met Moses in person. I found out that he is a manager at D S Auto Experts. I voiced to him my displeasure with their business and let him know that I was going to file a complaint with AAA and take other actions since I felt that he and D S were being dishonest and ripping me off. Moses went on to explain why everything transpired as it did and how they do "business" and explained their procedures in situations like mine. In the end the owner, Santos, came out to talk to me as well. He did a better job that Moses in explaining how they do things, and asked what, if anything, he could do. I agreed to pay for half of what the diagnostic cost (since I did learn something from it) but let him know that I would still write this review if changing out the alternator proved an easy and quick task as opposed to what Moses was claiming it to be and wanting to charge me for. A family friend ended up helping me replace the alternator. Entire process took about an hour to complete and would have cost me $210 if the friend had charged me labor. So, Moses had in fact been misleading me and making up things in order to finagle more money out of me. I decided to keep my word, and that is why I wrote this review and gave D S Auto Experts one star. I would have given the business zero stars if it were an option. read more

I had never heard of D&S auto experts until my transmission failed half way between Sacramento and Fort Irwin CA. My mechanic from Sacramento however was very familiar with them! I was immediately impressed with D&S before I had ever met them. Moses, my service provider, contacted me in Fort Irwin, (I had rented a car to get there, while my car was broke down in Delano), and worked with me until the car was able to arrive at the shop. Once there, I was given a tour of the shop and met several of the mechanics. Long story short, my car was not only fixed but they went above and beyond in going the extra mile both to me personally and my car. I jokingly said, that their service was almost worth moving from Sacramento to Visalia for! So if you are in the area, I highly recommend them to you. They also have a program there that is dear to my heart being a retired educator. Young people have an opportunity to shadow a mechanic and learn what the occupation is all about. This place is a ripoff. We needed a simple repair. We looked up prices online for the part and they quoted a price that was triple that. We tend to go to auto repair shops to avoid going to the dealership where it tends to be expensive. We were quoted $850 for a very simple repair and the dealership quoted with labor and taxes at $550!! DO NOT............DO NOT............DO NOT......... COME HERE!!!!! They come off as caring people but it is a fake persona because they are going to gouge your for as much as they can get out of you. I remember taking my car here a few years ago for a smog check and the staff was friendly, I took my dads car for a smog check today 12/05/14 and they quote me on a 45 minute wait and $45 and it's empty all around "we have some one waiting" they only had one customer a head of me wth right, but the wait the guy said all rude and in a bad tone like if he own the only smog check in visalia. I never ever write reviews but I felt compelled after the extremely professional manner in which Moses at DS Auto treated me recently. My son recently returned to visalia and his Mitsubishi eclipse spyder broke down the day after he returned. He had it towed to a different auto shop who recommended all kinds of repairs Which were totally unnecessary. My son called me and I called AAA who recommended DS auto. I spoke with Moses over the phone and he assured me he would look after everything including towing my car to his shop. Once there he immediately assessed the problem was a simple one (the key had broken thereby immobilizing the engine). He gave the car a total checkup and fixed some minor issues like headlight dimming etc, ordered a new key and my son was back driving the next day. He did all his, confirming everything with me over the phone. I had to use DNS auto experts last fall when transmission in my 2009 Ford escape burnt out. The owner, Santos Prado, gave me excellent service in trying to resolve my issue. I owned an extended warranty with third-party and Mr. Prado worked with me and made many phone calls to Ford and my third-party extended warranty holder and helped me get my car fixed. Gave 1 star because I couldn't give zero. They are Dishonest and over priced. Went in with an intermittent problem with my a/c ... was charged $430 to fix. Not only did they NOT fix my problem but My a/c stopped working all together AND it gets worse .... after paying, I couldn't even drive my car out of their parking lot. They gave several excuses that contradicted what I already knew about my car and even what their own paperwork said. They finally said that my clutch went out and my car was no driving condition and it would easily cost $2,000 to repair (but don't worry they offer financing!) I asked them to tow my car to another shop(which was a few miles away) only to watch them drive up IN my "non driving" car, 45 minutes later . The manager would not allow me to talk to the Owner instead he said "I let him be aware of the issue". They also inspected the car to see what else was wrong with it and gave a checklist with sections going from green, yellow, then red. I would recommend this place. DS auto? More like BS auto. First things first something is always wrong when you come here. Doesn't matter how old, or how new your car is something is always wrong. They use business propaganda to scare you into thinking something is wrong. They give you these "handy" vehicle stat sheets that have nothing to do with your vehicles current condition. I usually work on my own car, but college has been getting in the way, so I could see right through their BS as soon as they started telling me "oh you better get your oil drain cap changed it is leaking it will only cost $50 buck" 1 I change my own oil buddy, that is not true 2. That cap only cost 10 bucks... I will go under my car and change it myself if it was leaking. The other thing you need to know about these guys is they don't play nice with others meaning if something is wrong and you want to know the source because they want to charge you a arm and a leg and you would rather do it yourself... Not going to happen with these guys. They keep all that info to themselves. They will tell you the jist of it, but won't give you the full story. Like they will tell you oh your engines running rough we need to change the Sparks, but won't tell you you got a fuel injector issue until they got you in their grasp. Not that that happened, even though I dislike these people I will not lie about a false senario that was simply a example. These people also have a terrible habit of belittling you. If you disagree, or don't like the pricing they will talk to you like you're a brain dead moron. "It's like buying a box of cereal. You pay $ 5.00 at Walmart and $10.00 at targer." Cool bro, I'm going to WinCo then aka my garage where I can get that for $2.00. Sorry I know a thing or two about cars. I've been using D & S for 2-3 years. They offered a card to me for 4 oil changes for $59.95. Great deal. I bought it. Used it 3 times, no problem, no extra charge. Then all of a sudden this morning I went in to get my 4th oil change. After work was completed, I was charged $6.46. When I asked what this was for I was told it was for the 2 extra quarts of oil for my Cadillac. I was told that the card only allowed 5 quarts and my car uses 7 quarts. Was I told this when I bought the card? NO!!!!!!!!!! Was I told this when I used the card the first 3 times? NO!!!!!!!!!! Did I get charged for the extra 2 quarts the first 3 times I used it? D&S was a complete disappointment. The charge of looking into repairs started at $69.00. Yet to service an AC unit that needs 1 Lbs of freon on a 2003 Honda Accord resulted with an out rages cost of $447.16??? That is just BULLS#%T. Add salt to injury D&S advised the $69.00 was included in the total repair cost. REALLY!!!. You're paying for their inspection not service. D&S makes their money by spendings time doing a multi check inspecting on your vehicle that you have to sign consent to & only results to what THEY claim needs repaired instead of correcting the problem you are asking them to repair. LOOK, if I wanted to know what else is wrong with my vehicle is one thing but that's not what I requested. I asked you to fix my car "Not tell me "what else" needs repairs so that D&S can charge me my hard earned wages. My recommendation is you find a mechanic that earns your mutual trust and respects & that understands you've earned that hard earned wages to repair what YOU asked them to repair & not one who is trying to sell you additional repairs at a hiked up repair cost. Went in for a smog check. They said my car failed the smog test and I needed $500+ in repairs. Since I recently had the engine rebuilt I suspected something was up. I drove my car to smog only station. I didn't tell them I just had the car tested. The smog only station said my car passed, however, they can't issue a certificate because D & S Auto reported my car has a Gross Polluter. They told me I would have to take my car to a STAR station. I made the appointed with the STAR station and it passed again. I shared this experience with a few friends. Several of them had bad experiences with D & S Auto. One is a single mother with a disabled child. They pulled the same thing on her when she took her wheelchair accessible van for a smog check. read more

Looking for an option other than the Toyota dealership I went with D&S despite other warnings on Yelp. It was a mistake. I had a tire with a slow leak and needed an oil change. Without advising me of any other option by phone they set me up with their most expensive servicing option. In regard to my tire they said it could not be fixed AND I would need all new tires at over$1,000. I said no, and they wanted to argue with me. A car wash was supposed to have been included in the service package and my car was not washed. I immediately took my car to the Good Guys tire center in Visalia on Mooney Blvd, and did not mention what D&S had said. They immediately fixed the leak in my tire for about $20., and mentioned that I would need to replace the tires in another 3,000 to 5,000 miles. AAA called about my experience with D&S and I reported the same thing to them. I have been driving on the tire that D&S said was unfixable for 3,000 miles now, and I am getting ready to take my car to Good Guys for a new set of tires. read more

After that they replaced AC and Power Steering belts, Premium Oil change, and an air filter, was more than $500 out the door! Do not take your car here! Unless its an old Ford or GM product. I am an engineer by profession and one of the most understanding clients when it comes to car trouble and problems. Usually I do most work on my car and have a very high degree of technical understanding about automotive issues. I REALLY wanted D&S to be a good shop with high skill, because it seems like Visalia has limited options for good mechanics, they are supposed to be ASE certified and all that. Unfortunately I was wrong, my biggest problem with this shop is there TOTAL and COMPLETE lack of ATTENTION to DETAIL, things like overfilling your fluids, using cheap hoses and clamps, installing parts that are incomplete and then blame the customer that the part was missing these, when the techinical bulletins specify to re-use parts. They had my car on two different occasions and had to leave it 2-3 days each time because they had made mistakes, of course they will not admit to them, they tell you the part was bad or that they were given the wrong part, or that the part took too long to arrive. They say they tested your car properly, and then 5 minutes after picking it up on the second attempt at repair it is leaking AGAIN!!! Plus by the way, you are paying for all the "Necessary Labor" hours at about $120/hr which is darn near Dealership prices for all this, you are basically paying for their mistakes. And to top it all off, they are trying to "SELL" you on dumb parts your car doesn't even need like "New Wipers" "New Air Filter" or Fuel Injector cleaner, all without even really checking if you need them. Pretty pathetic I know, basically this shop is lucky I have not filed a claim against them with the State, they need to get their act together. Oh and I almost forgot, they didn't even know how to properly complete an alignment on a complex suspension, or how to rotate tires on a car with Staggered setup... wow?! read more

Headed home from Shaver Lake had a double blow out on my RV. Called AAA and they put me in touch with Vince at DS. I couldn't have asked for better service! Vince arranged a flat bed tow off Highway 99 to their shop. They were able to replace my tires and get us back on our journey home. They took such good care of us, loaned us a car so we could go get a meal while we waited. Kept the shop open late just to make sure we were taken care of and back on the road. My daughter's Mini Cooper's engine light went on while in Visalia, she found DS Auto was a AAA recommended shop and they fit her in that day. It was one of the only shops that work on Minis and we are so happy she found them. She is a resident surgeon and had to be at the Fresno VA Hospital this week and had to leave her car in Visalia and go to Fresno. Everyone at the DS Auto was very professional. Because my daughter had a 24 hr. shift, and was in surgery most of the day I spoke to DS for her. We live in Hollister and when I told Moises that my husband and myself would pick up her car and take it to our daughter at the Fresno VA Hospital he told me that they would deliver the car to her! Everyone was so thoughtful and caring about getting her car to her and not having us drive all that way. We cannot believe the support and kindness they showed us. They delivered her car right at the end of her shift and my daughter called to tell me her car has never driven better and they cleaned the car and made the headlights look like new for no extra charge. The cost was quite a bit less than the estimate. I wish they were closer,we take all our cars to them. We are so grateful and they have a new customer, my daughter will be taking the Mini there for service from now on. read more

Recent customer. Had my car repaired recently and was happy with the work and the explanation of what was done. The problem was the bill. I had noticed a charge for the change of a backup bulb and it cost $43, with no labor shown. Also, two subframe bolts were missing and replaced and the charge was over $140, with no labor shown. The labor for all work done is show as a total. The axles were replaced and my car runs well. The total was over $900. The bulb and the two bolt was the reason for the two stars. There is no accounting for labor done on each item installed and replaced. Most repair shops show this. Shame on them. They found some leaks and want me to come back for some more work for another $900. I had my transmission oil changed and they said there is no leak just from the repairs I had done a couple of months ag. I will not be going back. Advice to them would show to itemized labor for parts installed, don't pad labor onto the bill. read more

PLEASE READ FULL REVIEW: First off, being a business owner myself, Yelp does NO justice to D&S Service Center. The complaints I see about D&S Service Center, and the service I have experienced there, are (2) completely different experiences. We just recently (1 Year) started using D&S Service Center to service all of our company & personal cars, and have been VERY Pleased with the way things have gone. We own a Driving School in the area, and so I would probably say we use them more frequent than the average person. The biggest thing that sold me was the Ethics Santos (Owner) has, and quality of service they provided us with. We took one of our vehicles in for an issue it was having, and Santos told us that it would be cheaper to get the part from somewhere else that was selling the part much cheaper. To me, that means a lot when the owner helps you out like that. Instead of reading these poor reviews, I highly recommend going in and talking to the Owner Santos, or the front guy Moe. Vincent had great customer service and was the best part of my experience here, and I thank him. But anyway long story short I had taken my car to 2 other shops this was the third and last one I took it too. I had been having issues with erratic rough idle, and noone seemed to be able to fix the issue these guys swore they would be able too. I dished out nearly 1300 dollars and they replaced a belt and tensioner since I needed it and was there, and they determined I needed a throttle body and induction system clean out due to being clogged with debris and that I needed new spark plugs as well and that all this would fix my problem with a idle relearn procedure. I agreed since they seemed to know what they were doing, and I have a fairly good mechanical background and seems reasonable it could cause my issues. Got my car back the next day cleaned inside and out which I am thankful for last drive was out of town with kids and inside and outside were filthy. Car idled ok for a day then had same issue next morning. When I popped my hood I noticed my engine cover was missing. I know it was there because I had changed my IAC valve the day before and me amd my dad made sure to install it before I went home. i called Ds a few days later to tell them the car wasn't fixed and still had the same issue, and asked politely if they could look for the engine cover assuming maybe they were busy and forgot to install it. Moses said he would call about the cover, and to wait a week for the car to relearn the idle. A week went by and nothing so I pulled my ignition coils and most of them were filthy and cracked which can cause my issue not to getting the proper spark. They did replace the plugs though which I know it needed from the boots. I replaced the boots and springs lubed them and reinstalled and did a pcm reset procedure and the car is running like new. Bottom line they had to pull these to access the plugs they should of seen the bad condition and asked to replace them at the same time as the plugs and didn't. The pcv hose also had a hole causing a vaccum leak which they didn't find and I replaced. They did about 60% of the job charged me a arm and a leg and left me the rest of the work and told me it was fixed. Moses told me when I called him a few days ago about the engine cover that when they received my vehicle it was never on the car. I am guessing it was lost or kept as a spare for another vehicle , and they are denying it. Sad thing is I am a Christian, and they appear to be Christian run with Bibles in there office, Christian music on, and the Christian dove symbol on there business cards. Not a good way to portray yourselves if you are not going to be a honest company. Going to have to pay 35-45 to get a new cover off ebay, try to find the right bolts at osh, and not getting back my 1300 which I could of still had since I could of done all they did on my own as well, and would of fixed the car on my own. 1 star and not recommending anyone, or returning here again. read more
