I was hopeful about experiencing Dry Bar as a Black woman but my experience yesterday was far from ideal. Initially I called to ask what I should book for my daughter who needs a bun for a wedding. The woman on the phone was polite and informative. She informed me that she needed a card to hold the appointment and I told her I was just down the road so I would come in and book. When I arrived, no one greeted me. Said hello. Nothing. They just looked at me. I said, im here to book a blow out for my daughter. Immediately a man who was working on someone else began yelling my way that I would need to book extra dry time on top of my appointment and that it was gonna cost some amount I dont recall. He was not polite, he didnt greet me. He was yelling. And he made no inquiries about my daughter or her hair. Little did he know my daughter does not look like me, is not the same race as me, nor does she have my same hair type. But he didnt stop to ask what type of hair she had. He made a host of assumptions and rudely and aggressively communicated them. He also assumed that the extra charge would be some kind of problem for me. I asked him to explain again because I couldn't figure out what point he was trying to make to which he said that he "cant have his girls going over into the next booking slot and he didnt want me to be surprised when they charged me extra". Again very aggressively, not polite, frankly it seemed like he didnt want me to book. I was a little taken aback so I turned to one of the ladies and asked her to just tell me what I need to do. I then booked what I had called for. And left but Immediately canceled when I got home because I just didnt like the vibe and attitude from that man. I booked a blowout because I had my engagement photos that evening, and I was really looking forward to feeling beautiful and confident. I want to emphasize that I had realistic expectations. I know my hair can have a hard time holding curls, and I understand an inspiration photo is a reference, not a guarantee. I wasn't expecting an exact recreation. I just wanted the same soft, romantic, voluminous vibe. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed with the initial style. To me, it felt very boxy around my face, and there were still straight pieces throughout the back that made the style feel unfinished. I just didn't feel good looking at myself. Speaking up was extremely difficult because I don't like complaining, especially about my hair. I finally worked up the courage to say I wasn't happy with it. The manager came over, and I felt like she seemed somewhat irritated. She also explained that the look I wanted couldn't really be recreated because of the way my hair was cut. That was confusing because my hair is specifically cut with blowouts in mind, and I've had blowouts before where I've achieved the soft, voluminous look I wanted. Again, I wasn't expecting perfection. I just wanted the overall vibe. Thankfully, they brought over another stylist to help fix it, and I genuinely want to give her credit. She was patient, kind, and tried very hard to make me comfortable. While she was fixing my hair, I was literally shaking in the chair and trying not to cry. She is a huge reason I'm still willing to keep trying professional styling services after this experience. Unfortunately, the checkout experience is what really left a sour taste. There was a male stylist who had not worked on my hair and wasn't involved when my appointment initially started. While my second stylist was fixing my hair, I noticed him talking with her about hair coming in wet and apparently being subject to an additional fee. Then, while I was checking out, the front desk brought up that my hair had supposedly been wet when I arrived and told me there was normally an additional fee, but that they were "waiving" it this time. This really confused me. I had washed and blow-dried my hair myself around 8 to 9 AM that morning. During the appointment, my stylist also sprayed or misted my hair before styling it. If washing my hair at the salon was recommended or necessary to achieve the style, I absolutely would have done it and paid for it if someone had told me beforehand. I just wasn't told beforehand. What made this worse was that the same male stylist who hadn't worked on my hair then joined the conversation and started giving me advice about what I should have done differently and what I should do next time. At the very least, if someone was going to explain how I could have achieved the look differently, I would have much rather heard that from the stylist actually working on my hair or someone involved in my service. This stylist wasn't there when my appointment started and didn't work on my hair, yet he inserted himself into the conversation and explained what I should have done differently. And honestly, my engagement photos were that night. I wasn't asking for an explanation of why the look was difficult. I was already upset and trying to feel good about myself for an important evening. I understand that full volume can be challenging, and I was willing to accept that it might not turn out exactly like my inspiration. But having someone who hadn't worked on my hair explain how I should have asked for it or prepared my hair made me feel blamed. That was not helpful in that moment. It was hurtful and unnecessary. I wasn't trying to argue or avoid paying. I just wanted to check out and leave. Instead, I paid, tipped for my services, and walked out to my car crying while trying to regain my composure. The second stylist had helped me feel comfortable again, but the checkout conversation made me feel blamed rather than supported. If there is an additional fee for arriving with wet hair, or if washing your hair at the salon is strongly recommended, that should be communicated before the service, not at checkout after an already emotional appointment. If there was something I could have done differently to help achieve the look, I would have appreciated being told by the stylist working on me, preferably before or during the service, not by someone who wasn't involved in my appointment while I was already upset. I am genuinely grateful to the stylist who helped fix my hair. She was compassionate and made a difficult experience much better, and I don't want my review to take away from the effort she made. But overall, I left feeling much worse than I expected to. I wasn't expecting perfection. I just wanted to feel good walking out the door for my engagement photos that evening. Honestly, I should've just picked up my fiancé's Zara shirt and never walked in here. Could've spent that money literally anywhere else. read more

Gave this Drybar another shot out of desperation and am leaving crestfallen once again. I asked for a smooth blowout without curls and some volume on top, and walked away with tight curls. The stylist never used any tools to create lift in sections, and seemed very unsure when picking up her brushes and blow dryer; it was as though she was just waking up or not confident in what she was doing. I'm not sure why this Drybar cannot employ decent stylists with, at the very least, listening comprehension. I tipped well In spite of how deeply disappointed I am in not only how I look, but in how I feel. I will be driving far out of my way for future Drybar visits in Irvine or Pasadena where the baseline caliber of stylists seems consistent. Had a really bad experience here with service. I was originally quoted $59 for a blow out plus $10 for the added extensions i brought. Then at check out, the Spanish woman helping me said it would be $20 extra for the extensions. I told her my stylist Sophia already told me it was $10 extra, which i agreed to and got done. She said no she was wrong and it's $20 then proceeded to try to sell me on becoming a member. I was planning on signing up but was so taken back by that ladies energy and attitude towards me when it was clearly something wrong internally they did. They told me the price. And should have stuck to what they quoted me. I told her after increasing the extension price that im not interested in signing up. And she said ok then you won't get member pricing and increased my bill to $99 for the blowout instead of the $59 I was quoted!!!! I didn't want to let her ruin my day and event so I just paid. But that was so unprofessional and unwelcoming as a new client. I hope the owners see this and contact me for further info on my experience. I felt scammed and disrespected. I went to get my hair done a few weeks ago and the manager was so rude. He was pretty much accusing me of needing extra time for a service I didn't even request. Then, when I asked to speak with the manager and owner, he said he was both -lied and said he was the owner. I canceled my appointment and left. I booked an appointment online. Arrived at my appointment time 10:30 and was told I wasn't on the schedule. The receptionist said she could fit me in at 11:30 so I said I would come back. Back story I have a broken right hand so can't wash and dry my own hair at this time so I booked an apt at the drybar. Came back for my appointment and the receptionist took me back to the shampoo bowls and proceeded to wash my hair. Not sure what her experience is but I barely felt her washing my hair and it did not even feel very wet. One shampoo, and rinse and I was done. No double shampoo?? The first one barely sudsed up. I guess a second shampoo would be an add on. I am a licensed cosmetologist so I know you shampoo twice. Now came my turn for blow dry. This was done by the stylist I guess. She was more concerned with being able to leave early as she said she had things to do. Dried my hair and threw in a few curls with a curling iron and I was done beginning to end 35-40min. Texture spray was heavy and made my hair oily looking. Not worth the $59 dollar cost plus $15 dollar tip. I can not recommend this Drybar. read more

We had our hair shampooed. They massaged our head and it felt amazing. There is a menu book that you can select what type of hairstyle that you want. Fun atmosphere! One of the stylists was singing, one was quiet but very focused on doing her job, and one listened to everything I wanted to have done. There are lots of hair stylists. Just talk to them and tell them what you want. In reading other reviews - if they are too rough or you're uncomfortable, TELL THEM!!! Do not suffer!!! We were offered champagne and it was nice. upon arrival i felt unwelcomed , I had an appointment and did run ten minutes behind waited for about a min or 2 for the male receptionist ,because he was not in the reception , right away he began telling me i was late 11 minutes which according to him over 10 min is a cancelation the began to Act as if he was doing me a favor by taking me in because he said someone had canceled otherwise he had to cancel ,which makes no sense because I had an appointment!
