I was a religious drybar girl prior to covid in NYC. Upon moving to Nova, I hadn't been to any locations but had pretty high expectations given all my previous experiences in NYC. In this economy, not worth the money and was really unimpressed with my experience. The stylists were very unengaged and felt the experience was subpar. She asked me what side I part my hair, then parted on the wrong side. The front hairs on my face weren't tamed (they didn't try to use any product to finish it off). I have to admit I was nervous about coming here after seeing all the negative reviews, but I couldn't find another place that offered an adorable updo for NYE. The check in process did take long and I was sitting around for over 15 minutes, but given that it was NYE and they were swamped it was understandable. My hairstylist Janae (apologies if spelling is wrong there!) was phenomenal. I showed her photos and she did exactly what I was looking for. She was really kind too, stopping multiple times through the process to ask me if it felt right or if I liked the direction she was going in. I just tried Dry Bar so you don't have to. To sum it up on my birthday I left this salon feeling LESS confident than when I walked in. I asked for beachy loose waves. What I got was fried hair and tight curls that made me look like I was getting ready for an Eric Church concert in Nashville. 1. Whether it was the fact that the appointment ran over schedule 2. that I showed her three pictures and still got the opposite what I wanted 3. that she used a flat iron without any oil or heat protectant making my hair feel fried afterwards 4. That I even asked about why the flat iron was so narrow for a barrel and if she can achieve the look that I was going for with it 5. That she shared the previous customer had the same complaint that they didn't get what they wanted initially but it's okay because the curls will "fall out" 6. My hair had 0 to no volume after the appointment additionally-- completely defeating the purpose of the blowout. 7. or the fact that I was late for my own birthday party since I had to go home and RECURL my own hair...that I paid for... for $60 If you are planning on treating yourself to dry bar with the hopes of "not worrying" about your hair on your birthday... definitely don't give this place a shot. Instead get some curlers, a revlon hair styler, and a 1.5 barrel curling iron. I am very disappointed in the service my friend and received at the DryBar in Arlington. First and foremost, they were 30 mins behind schedule and that was not okay. It was not communicated that they were running behind at all. Every time I asked when we would be seen, they kept saying someone is finishing up right now. The website told me to allow 45 mins for the appointment and i did that but they weren't able to get it done in 45 minutes. I told them we needed to be done by 10:50am, no later and the appointment was at 10:00am. They didn't start on me until 10:25 and my friend at 10:30, mind you - THEY DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO WASH OUR HAIR! We didn't leave until 11:10am which is completely unacceptable. We were on a tight schedule and being this far behind completely ruined my bridesmaid proposal. On top of that, my hair style only held for barely an hour. The volume and curls fell and my friend's hair style was completely flat. I don't understand how they ran so far behind when we were the 2nd appointment time of the day. 2 stars for how nice my hairdresser was... but I can't believe I just paid $50 for my hair to be blown out and it didn't even last an hour. During that hour, I drove in my car with windows up and AC on. Then I got home and took this picture. No wonder my fiancé couldn't tell I'd had a blowout when I picked him up at DCA... I conveyed to my stylist that I needed her to do everything she can to put hold in the hair. But I wound up with limp flat hair literally 60 minutes later. Happy to share the timestamped photos with management. My 11:30am appointment didn't start until 11:50pm. I feel as if most people going here aren't getting a blow out to go sit at home, it's for an occasion - so timeliness should be paramount. My stylist was nice, but my scalp is really sore from how hard she pulled while working to get scalp volume. If only it had held, at all. She also complained that my hair was really tangly... I think it was because of the product she used because I don't have every brush stroke knotted and pulled at other salons. I'm so disappointed. I want to be a regular Drybar customer. But please, I'd love someone from Drybar to explain to me why I should have paid for this style which didn't last. My hair didn't even last ONE hour and I have a wedding to attend in 2 hours. Are there zero stars? Worst customer service I have ever experienced. They were over an hour late, and got mad at me!! I had been planning my event for two years, and this was just one part of the day. It was bad enough that they were short staffed (which they are every single day they are open), running over an hour late - but then their attitudes and horrible way they treated customers was unbelievable. I had to tell the front desk person to never speak to me again, and I would only converse with the manager who was standing nearby. I really can't believe the whole thing happened. EDIT: below you can see that drybar asked me to email them and I did about a week ago and have not heard anything back. I am so very disappointed with my hair today. First of all, it is not what I asked for at all. I asked for beach waves (the Mai Thai) and second of all, the technique and experience was so significantly lacking. I am not a hair professionally to say the least, but I do know that it is not correct to curl towards your face, to pour water on your clients face while shampooing, to attempt putting completely DRY hair in rollers three times and being shocked that it's "not holding a curl", and to put the blow dryer directly on my scalp for minutes until I had to tell her it was burning my head. You can see how separated the curls are, and how the front pieces are laying flat on my face and how it does NOT look like beach waves. Update- I appreciate that DryBar told me they could make it better, so I followed their instructions and reached out. They have NEVER responded, so it felt like the auto response they gave my Yelp review was a show. One star remains. This review is based on a full blowout appointment on Sat Oct 19. I booked this appointment 6 weeks in advance and I've been a client of Drybar for about 10 years in the NYC, Las Vegas and DC locations. This is my first and last time at their newish Arlington location. What a mistake. How off brand. Typically Drybar has someone who greets you quickly, checks you in, offers you a complimentary beverage, and gets you in and out in an hour or less. No surprises. Same styles It's this efficiency, high quality customer service and predictable style menu that makes people like me CHOOSE to book a service here- we know what we get will be great and just what we hoped for. It's typically confidence inspiring and given the nature of paying $50 for a blowout, exactly what you want before an important event/appearance. I arrived at 3:23 for a 3:30 appointment. There were only 3 stylists, no receptionist, no greeting, I had to flag down a stylist to check in, wasn't offered anything to drink or most importantly, NOTIFIED that they were an hour or more behind. 40 min later, upon overhearing a mother and daughter leaving because they waited an hour for their appt and never got styled, I was shampooed. The person apologized, saying a stylist fell and broke her wrist that day and one person called out sick. I've worked in the service industry so I know how hard it is to work short staffed on a Sat when there are weddings and homecoming etc. Now I've been shampooed but it's been 1 hr 20 min and no brush or dryer or stylist in sight. This SUCKS. Go anywhere else. Do your hair at home. I hope I make it on time to my friends wedding. This is so stressful. Drybar, get a backup crew from another Drybar location you can call in a pinch- even to greet customers, communicate and make sure we are in the loop on stuff. Call a temp agency for goodness sakes! Text us to say you are 1-2 hours behind. Offer us all a free blowout so we MIGHT try you again. But PLEASE don't risk your hard earned reputation on chance and poor management. Conference is on disability issues and I am the keynote speaker Given DryBar a tight scheduling the store policy of 1/2 hour to 45 minutes I was assured I'd be out by 8. I had no time to spare It is now almost 8 AM and I am still waiting for my blow dry. The store manager was rude, arrogant and had no qualms about explaining that when a customer (before me) has a lot of hair, it can take longer for the blow dry. When I asked why I had to wait because of her mistake, I was ignored. When I asked if I could blow dry my own hair she said it is not store policy. I finally pleaded with the stylist, Asia, to interrupt her current client and squeeze me in she was kind and gracious, as was her customer. This place is under new ownership and I've watched it go completely downhill over the last year. First, THE DRY BAR BRAND PRODUCTS ARE CHEAP AND PITIFUL, AND WILL DAMAGE YOUR HAIR!! The stylists are forced to use the company's poor quality products so don't even think about bringing your own high quality, needs-specific products, because the new owners only allow the stylists to use the Dry Bar brand products which have a horrible odor, and will dry out and damage your hair. On another note, the restrooms have been inoperable for over a month. Staff and clients have to leave the salon and take an elevator to another floor to find a public mall restroom. And don't get me started on the lack of heat also for over a month. I have been patient with the problems I've observed with this salon because several of the stylists are very friendly and have done good work in the past, (especially when they were allowed to use far superior non-Dry Bar brand products like Joico and Aveda brought in by clients). However, the new owners, (who I have never actually seen in the salon on any of the days I've had appointments), do not care about customers, and seem to know NOTHiNG AT ALL ABOUT HAIR, NOR HAIR PRODUCTS AND THE DIVERSITY OF PRODUCTS NEEDED IN A PROFESSIONAL SALON. 1) No heat for over a month in the middle of winter; 2) No bathrooms for over a month; 3) Changed hours resulting in the salon closing earlier in the evenings, and 4) THE WORST HAIR PRODUCTS ON THE MARKET. As a general rule, I don't like giving negative reviews, however I've had multiple sub-par experiences at this Arlington location and I think it's important to share. To begin, each time I've visited they have been running somewhere between 40-60 minutes behind schedule (even though the receptionist will tell you "10 to 15 minutes" EVERY TIME). This repeated issue is incredibly disrespectful to clients; it's clear that they overbook, understaff, or both because they clearly cannot handle their appointments in a timely matter. So if you come here, make sure you allow an extra hour to sit and wait before your appointment even begins. To add insult to injury, while the stylists are very nice, each time I've visited it seems like they are new or very junior stylists don't really know what they are doing. On my last visit the stylist didn't even bother to put hairspray on my hair, leaving me to do it after she started with her next client. Each time I've visited the blowout hasn't even lasted through the night (which has not been my experience with other blow out bars, including DryBar in McLean). So to recap, every time I've visited I've gotten a sub-par, meh blowout from a junior stylist and I've almost always ended up being late for my events even though I left plenty of time based on when my appointment was scheduled. Oh, and they won't even offer you a second glass of champagne to take the edge off your 2-3 hour experience. It's a shame this location has so many issues, I kept giving second, third, fourth chances because of the close proximity to my home. I've been to Drybar twice in Ballston and I'd say it's a decent option to have your hair done for special occasions. The first time I went it was on NYE and the place was packed! My roommate and I had to wait over 30 mins past our appt time to get our hair done. I thought my hair looked good at the end of the appt. My roommate thought hers was a little frizzy. Upon checkout, they offered umbrellas due to the rain but they had run out by the time we left. On my second appt for my work holiday party, I had my hair curled and with volume. My hair definitely looked great that night but there was so much product in it that it was super greasy the next day. I do tend to have more oily hair naturally (which I mentioned to the stylist) but a lot of product was still used. Overall, I'd probably come back out of convenience to my apartment. They have new ownership - well, maybe new new ownership? and a new 5 minute grace period policy that isn't in the email DryBar sends you when you confirm. (They apparently are now sending a second email not from the official DryBar confirmation account that says they have this new 5 minute grace period after which you're SOL. They even call you the day before and don't mention it. I was 7 minutes late and no service. And by the way, I shouldn't be late, 100%. That's my fault. (I tried so hard to get there on time, but I didn't.) And that's my fault. But when they've historically been flexible and the regional manager comes over to deliver the message to you that you won't be served as though she's daring you to respond - no apology; I wish we could help, etc. - no thank you. She kept referencing the fact that they're doing this because the recent ownership has basically been too lax. But if your concern is the ownership, why are you taking it out on the customer?! Truly, if she had said "I'm so sorry for the inconvenience but we've had to implement this new policy. I know it's new and this is messing you up, and we're sorry. We can't see you now but we do have time available [insert time here] - would that work?" Or just anything kind, apologetic and customer service-oriented. Rather than "I'm the DryBar bouncer" vibes. I have a track record of writing positive reviews on Yelp, but this experience was nothing I've ever seen. 1) We had two appointments at 5 pm. 2) We didn't get seated with a stylist until 6 pm - *an hour late*. It took 90 minutes each to do our two blowouts. I've been to other locations and I'm in and out of the chair in 45 minutes. 3) We left the salon at 7:30 pm. That's 2.5 hours AFTER our appointment. Totally unacceptable. 4) I asked to speak to the manager at 7:30 pm. The front desk attendant told me to wait for this **wait longer as the manager was "finishing up an email". I was flabbergasted. So after waiting for 2.5 hours - I was supposed to wait AGAIN for the manager to write an email? The email couldn't be sent three minutes later? I've never seen anything like this. 5) The manager was nowhere in sight for the full 2.5 hours I was there. Didn't offer an apology for the delays. Didn't offer an explanation. My teenage daughter and I came for the first time and we had an awesome experience. When we arrived for our scheduled appointments we were promptly greeted and serviced. We were there for just over 1.5 hours and the same stylist (April S.) did both of our hair. She even accommodated my daughters need for a special shampoo (that we bought in). I was texted the morning of telling me my appointments canceled because I didn't have a stylist. I should start my review by noting that I've never gotten my hair blown out. I made an 8 am appointment this morning because I had been wanting to try it and figured I could look nice for a New Years party. The stylist was lovely and he assured me that as this was my first time he would do such a great job that no other blowouts would be near as good. I hope that that is not true, because this one left a lot to be desired. I have a lot of hair-- it's long and it's heavy, I know that. That being said, after a 1.5 hour long blowout, my hair has no more discernible volume than it does on any given day when I air dry it. I also asked for the curliest style so that my curls could last and fall out over a few days. The stylist spent maybe 15 minutes curling my hair and when I got home I had a bunch of hidden chunks of pin straight hair. I curled them myself with my flat iron because it looked so bad. My part was ragged and the hairspray had clumped the hair around my part so I had to take a comb to it to straighten out my part. The one good thing was how nice the stylist was, but honestly at the end of my appointment he just said "you're done" and handed my my things. No "what do you think?" or "does it look right to you?". I was excited to try this place to I could relax with a glass of champagne and get this awesome blow out I've seen other women raving about. Well, they didn't have any champagne--that's okay I guess. When my stylist was ready I could tell she was slightly intimidated by my hair. I have 3C hair and I booked online requesting a stylist who "must know long ETHNIC hair." During the wash I could tell that the stylist was not comfortable doing my hair. She wasn't sure of what products to use, I was sprayed multiple times in the face with water, and she asked me when's the last time I wore my hair straight. I came in with my hair straight. I asked for a blow out with some body and volume which I believe is their first option. The blow out took over an hour, the stylist accidently ripped out a patch of my hair, and my hair was so puffy. The worst part was that my hair was still so dirty. I went to scratch my scalp and all the oil from last week was still on my roots. It was not at all the sleek style that I've seen other women of color have from Dry Bar. Maybe this place is still a little new and they haven't worked out the kinks. But, if you don't know how to style ethnic hair then don't use my hair as a test dummy, then charge me $50 for it. Normally when I get a blow out, it's sleek straight, and doesn't frizz. I have been going to Drybar consistently for over 5 years and have NEVER had such a terrible experience as I did at this location. I showed up right on time for my appointment and was asked 5 minutes later to come on back for my wash. She asked if it was a special occasion and I notified her that I had my engagement shoot early that afternoon. The manager said she was washing my hair because a stylist hadn't become available yet. She audibly said "yeah we need to get our sh** together here" and when I said "what?" She brushed it off. She washed my hair for 30 MINUTES. I have long and thick hair but my no means should it take that long. She scratched my scalp twice giving me a head massage that I didn't ask for. At 11:35 I was sat in a chair and the manager said "I'm gonna start drying your hair, a stylist is just finishing up". Well she dried the whole bottom half of my hair, and was yanking my head around. As another stylist became available and then started helping someone else she and another employee had a side conversation where she stated I still needed someone to help me. Finally another stylist came over at 11:55. My hair was finishing being dried by 2 people and my head was being pulled in 2 different directions. I stated that I wanted a Cosmo with Southern Belle root lifter and lots of volume. When my hair was dry the stylist got the Velcro rollers so curl my hair. I let him know that those have never worked curling my hair and that I preferred heat and he said "well the way I do it works". He rolled my whole head and took out the bottom and it fell completely flat....which I said would happen. He then turned on a curling rod and curled it. Same thing happened to the top of my head and I had to ask him to use heat on that as well. He got a roller stuck in my hair for 5 whole minutes and had to rip it out, thus ripping my hair. Once he was "finished" he asked me how it looked and I wanted to cry. It looked terrible and my special occasion was going to be ruined. I paid and left and sobbed in my car. I went home and had to redo the entire thing. I called customer service about a refund and they filled out a ticket and stated I should hear within 72 hours. Well that was 3 WEEKS AGO and I haven't heard anything. I called again today and was spoken to by a very rude gentlemen. He said that he can't transfer me to anyone because a "different company handles the requests, we just fill them out". I asked for a follow up ticket to be made and he refused stating that he'll fill one out if I don't hear today or tomorrow. I asked him again to fill one out and send me conformation and he said he couldn't send me confirmation but he made a follow up ticket(which I doubt he actually did). I mean WTF Drybar! I tried Drybar for the first time at the newish Ballston location, and really enjoyed it! I showed up for my 3:00 appointment about 10 minutes early, and was seated with a choice of coffee, tea, champagne, or white wine- as tempting as the alcohol was, I just got coffee this time. It was still a really nice touch, and I finished it by the time I was called over for my appointment right at 3:00. My stylist Amber helped me choose a style (the cosmo-tai) based on my hair length, and then started my blowout. She checked in on me throughout the process to make sure things like the water temperature, brushing, and blow dryer were okay, and was very friendly. The whole thing took about 55 min from start to finish on my shoulder length hair, and even though it was her last shift of the day, I still felt like Amber was very thorough with my style. The manager took me back to wash my hair, then I sat down in the chair. The same woman who visibly didn't want to do my hair actually told me "you have a lot of hair, I was trying to get out of doing this wreck." I tried to make conversation with her about how easily it dries. I just needed a round brush blowout. She literally stopped mid blow out and told the manager "I don't do round brush curls, you have to get someone else." My stylist Jenny, Jenae, I'm not quite sure because she never introduced herself, didn't listen to any of my wishes or instructions on how to deal with my difficult straight hair. I asked for a Cosmo style. She turned me around in the chair and I told her to please fix the entire thing and to add a lot more product because I knew my hair wouldn't hold. That added 20 useless minutes. She had a severe attitude with me. I arrived home and within 8 minutes my hair looked like the attached. I have the time stamp od my credit card charge vs the pic to prove it. I then eventually called customer service asking for my money back and they told me I should've gone back, and that they could not reimburse me. I didn't have time to go back because I was right up against my event time given their 25 min delay and an extra 20 min of "fixing" this. Thank you Dry Bar! I will never return. read more

TERRIBLE experience. I made an appointment months ago, to be called an hour before my appointment asking me to come in earlier. As I was on my way out the door, I received a second call stating my appointment actually had to be pushed back beyond my originally scheduled appointment due to "staff miscommunication". I arrive to the salon to find two staff members arguing with each other, in front of a seated client. I am then informed they will not be getting to me until 12 at the earliest (my appointment was at 11). My baby shower was scheduled at 1, so I obviously could not stay. I was also told there was no manager I could speak to, but that someone would be reaching out to me to discuss the matter further & provide a blow out credit. I have yet to hear from anyone, despite reaching out to the salon directly. I will never again trust my business on such a special day to this establishment, nor would I recommend anyone else to consider them. read more

Despite the negative reviews, I was in a pinch so I booked an appointment here. Asia did my hair and she was great. She saw me exactly on time, did exactly what I asked for, and was super friendly. I booked an online appointment for New Years about a week and a half ago. I arrived just before my appointment and was told someone would see me shortly. "Shortly" turned into a 40 minute wait! I ended up having to cancel some of my New Years plans as a result when I should have just left. I did appreciate my stylist who apologized for the wait. The real kicker was when I went to pay for my visit -- they read the last four digits of my card number, only it wasn't my credit card! They nearly charged a stranger for my appointment who just happened to share my first name. Additionally, my email was completely wrong for the receipt. What frustrated me the most was no effort was made to make up for the delay or payment problems. I would have gladly left happily if they had offered a discount on my next visit. I rarely write negative reviews, but this Dry Bar just didn't do it for me. It's not nearly on par with the experiences I've had at other locations. read more

I have been to dry bar in Seattle and Sephora and I can honestly say this was a horrible experience. I booked my appointment online and arrived early for a dry styling. After 10 mins, I asked the receptionist when I would be seen and she barely spared an glance before saying 5-10 mins. After 25 mins, I was finally seen. The hairstylist barely apologized and then started on the service. The service itself was alright albeit a little rushed. When I paid, the receptionist asked how was everything and when I said "alright despite the 25 min wait" she ignored me and said nothing. She looked bored to be there. Overall, not a pleasant experience. Not happy with the whole service at all. read more

Awful first time experience at drybar. I came in with my hair wet as I was running late due to a family emergency. I thought going to drybar would be a fun experience that would take my mind off of it, boy was I wrong. The stylist was very annoyed that she would have to blow dry my hair even though I scheduled a blowout. She became more annoyed when my hair wasn't drying and told me that because of the way I showed up to the appointment, I would be cutting into other people's appointments. I just got up and left because sitting in that chair with a stylist that was so visibly annoyed with me was not my idea of a fun way to get ready for an event. Plus, I'd been told my presence was cutting into other people's time so I figured I'd do them a favor! To top it all off I wasn't so much as offered a glass of water while I was there. So I went to Drybar for the first time & Samantha did my hair .. she did a Mai Tai style on me & I am in LOVE! She did the best job! She was super careful, absolutely great to talk to & my hair turned out beautiful. I have long hair & a lot of it & she was so patient! The salon is gorgeous & everyone who worked there was so nice.. definitely recommend! read more
