HE IS NOT A LICENSED PLUMBER! If you need your work verified, do not use him. Not only will you be held liable for his work but your house may lose home insurance if you get your work done by him. We needed a leak detector device set up for our home insurance and after an initial phone call, Derek notified us that he would be able to install it. He was notified that we would need verification for our insurance policies and he said "No Worries. Will Do." After installation, he sent over an invoice and we noticed there was no plumber license number. Our home insurance is now asking us to get another plumber to verify Derek's work. On Sunday, my water heater began spewing water from the bottom. Every google search and person I spoke to said the unit was shot. The thing had to be 30 years or older so they're right and it ran its course. I did what everyone does and search google and Yelp for people. I spoke to a few businesses. Some wouldn't come out until Monday or Tuesday to even assess or quote. Some I just got that bad vibe from. Some were outrageously high due to it being an emergency. Derek at Drummer Plumber reached out to me within half an hour or so. We talked on the phone and he even gave me some explanations on where to shut off the water, how to drain so it won't leak throughout the garage and said he could come by to look at it within 2 hours. He arrived on time and looked and was able to give me a quote. His was not the cheapest, but the quality he offered was better than the less expensive offers. He did give the option of doing the work on Sunday, but if I wanted to better unit it would be Monday once his supplier opened up. On Monday Derek and his apprentice arrived. They were friendly and efficient. They didn't mind me popping in and asking questions, but didn't need me there watching or holding their hands through it. They finished the job on time and properly. We had a sixteen year old water heater that was still running but we wanted to be proactive and replace before it failed. Of the three quotes I received, Derek was the only firm to provide his estimate the same day in writing. While all the quotes were within a couple of hundred of each other, Derek impressed and won the job due to his recommendation to get a Bradford White water heater and not buy from Home Depot. Note to others, another plumber said he got lots of calls for the Rheem water heaters from Home Depot. I liked that Derek ordered parts from CalSteam, I paid and had delivered. My water heater pilot refused to stay lit. I googled around, and submitted a request for quote on Yelp. Derek got back to me the fastest and asked me to call him. I reached him right away, and we made an appointment for him to look at my problem for no charge. He relit the pilot and told me to check on the water heater in an hour. If the pilot stayed lit, I had no problem and no charge. If the pilot went out, I needed to replace the water heater. Guess which one it was? Well, you're right, and Derek's quote was lower than the other two I got. Well, the temporary fix didn't last as long as we anticipated. Last night when I ran my bath the water flow was significantly slower than it had been and when I went to wash my hands after putting cream on my legs, no water came out of the faucet. Outside I heard the sound of water, although not as strongly as the night before. I got a flashlight and went outside to check and there was water coming out of the pipe. We've been fortunate that neither time did the garage flood. There's a drain set into the driveway that runs the length of the garage door and that carried most of the water away. Derek had told me to call him day or night if there were problems, so I went back in the house and called him, leaving a message. It was a bit after midnight. Then I called East Bay MUD again to come out and turn off the water, which they did less than an hour later. Derek called me back immediately and we made arrangements for him to come out after he finished a job he had in the morning. He estimated he would be out around 1:00 in the afternoon. Shortly after 1:00 he called to say he was leaving Home Depot w/ the part for the permanent fix. He fixed it, ran the water to get the bubbles out and refused to charge more than we had paid the day before. Our experience w/ Derek has been stellar each time. In addition to fixing the leak, he told me that what I had thought was the water meter was just dirt, that the meter was next to it. I had never wondered about the two "meters". I decided to plant something in the space w/ the dirt and at my request Derek removed the lid and put it in the garage. Now I have to figure out what to plant there. read more
