We are very happy with the Dropshades which were installed in our read yard patio. The folks at Dropshades--Darren, Cole, Asigh and, our installer, Tim--are an incredible team to work with. We live in the northern end of Cathedral City which can be very windy. We wanted a sturdy product that would hold up to our ever-changing weather patterns here in the Valley. Our existing aluminum shade structure has a slanted roof. In order to accommodate Dropshades, we had our landscape contractor add a new support post & cross beam. When your first meet with a Dropshades representative for an estimate, he will evaluate if your patio structure is level enough to accommodate the shades. The shades "glide" up and down a track when they are being opened or retracted. Be aware that windy conditions above 10 MPH can affect the operation of the shades. We always check that the shades stay in the tracks as they are retracted so that the fabric does not fold in on itself. Never leave the shades down overnight or in high winds. Dropshades include a remote control as viewed in the video. I also paid for an internet hub which lets me operate the shades via a smart phone app. We never considered using any other company than Dropshades. Our contractor highly recommended them. This is not a project that you will want to "cut corners" on. Go with the best, hire Dropshades! read more

Very disappointed. Had an appointment for 3:00 today. Came home from an earlier event so I could clear the patio and move an active bird nest to accommodate the work to be done only to have them be a no show. I called the office and was told they were down by 2 men and they don't know when they will be able to help me. I was then told they have people who have been waiting for weeks for help with their shades. They could have called me in the morning and let me know they weren't going to make it and I would have rescheduled. I feel horrible for having to move the nest; I have moved it back and hopefully the mommy bird will come back soon. Very upsetting. Bad business. I have moved on to another company that has assured me they will show up and help me out. read more

I first hired this company back in 2006 to install a set of exterior drop shades at my Palm Springs condominium. I remember the installation process was easy and I could not have been happier with the quality of the shades themselves. Not one problem in almost 20 years. Fast-forward to 2025, I had moved and was looking for similar drop shades for a different home. I had Dropshades of Palm Desert come out because I did have some squeezing noises. When Anthony, their wonderful, employee came out we put the shade up and down many times and there wasn't a squeaking so he didn't have to fix anything. He said he wouldn't charge put some dry lube on it for me which he did. I wasn't told there would be a $125 cost to come out. Anthony said there would be a $125 charge to come out, but he didn't charge me because he was here after seeing my friend a mile away for maybe at the most 5 minutes. They sent him back to collect the $125 from me. I did call them and complained and the women on the other line said, I hear you loud and clean, but nothing was offered back to me. They have a good product, but I was actually surprised that is all they said to me. read more

We hired Drop Shades to install their retractable screen on our back patio. If you are considering Drop Shades, My impression with this company is emphasizing sales, not service and certainly not supporting their warranty. At first we enjoyed the shade, but over time we realized the product and service was not worth the money that we paid; install was poor quality and damaging the screen itself, and that the owner fails to take any ownership of his installer's work, to the point that he is willing to literally argue with me at my house after spent $4,000 with him, and recommended him to FOUR neighbors, including at least two that I'm confident spent more money that we did. In Feb, 2021 I called DS regarding the scratched mesh. At glance it appears that dirt is trapped in the screen, but after three attempts of cleaning, to no avail, and a competitor diagnosing the issue as caused by the roll up mechanism too close to the stucco. After calling DS twice to look at it, I never received a return call. In early April, I called back. They said they would send someone out to look at them. On April 28, 2021 a representative came out and immediately stated it was dirt. I explained it was not, and that we had been attempting to remove the "dirt" to no avail. A different company rep who we hired to install retractable screen doors, and whom I requested an opinion from, stated that the mesh was scratching the stucco as it was entering/exiting the rolling mechanism at the top. The DS representative denied this, insisting it was dirt. I told him we had cleaned both sides, and the other company's observation was worth looking at; at this time, I was confident the marks were scratch marks. I told him I'd be happy to hand him soap and a brush to clean it (he declined). The representative never looked at the mechanism closely, but insisted from about 12 feet on the ground. Because he could tell we were at a standstill in our opinion and observation, he offered owner to come by and look at it, and someone would call. As of mid-May, no one called. I called and the owner was unfortunately in the hospital. Was told to call back. In mid-June I called again, and found out the owner in hospital again (I certainly wish him good health, but he certainly didn't call me when he returned to the office the first time). To me, it is unacceptable that someone else could not make a warranty decision--or at least a more detailed inspection--in his absence. I was finally able to schedule owner to come by on 7/20. Upon his visit, he insisted the marks were caused by dirt caught in the mesh. I told him that it was not, and suggested he look closer. Once he looked at the mechanism near the roofline, he admitted it was scratching, however told me that the stucco had expanded, and the fine print released them from any warranty repairs. After a lot of back and forth I told him that was not the case, and I he finally agreed it to be an installation issue. Failing to take any ownership or attempt any remedy to the point that I was yelling. He offered to do me a "favor" and "meet me in the middle". He would pay the labor charge if I paid for the parts. I responded that his "deal" was unacceptable. This was their install, his product and lack of quality. He then said he would take care of it and needed to order the part; and would call when it was in. Sept 15, DS came and adjusted the mechanism. I asked if they were planning to do anything to the screen itself that was completely scratched up (and a part of the conversation the owner was trying to avoid that I thought he had committed to). They said they were not. The screen mechanism rubbing is fixed, but the mesh is scratched and looks terrible. It's bad enough that his tech failed to take ownership of the issue at initial inspection nearly a year ago, but to argue with the customer and not fully remediate the issue is mortifying. Following initial installation, I recommended this product to friends in the neighborhood; he has had AT LEAST 4-5 neighbors hire him based on my recommendation--at least two in particular that spent more than twice as much as I did on his screen. Yet, the best I get is to prevent further damage to a screen that looks terrible and appears low quality due to the damage. Because of the lack of ownership by the company to adhere to providing quality and after-sale support/repair to what a reasonable customer would expect, I no longer recommend DropShades--and in fact, as a real estate agent, I go out of my way to recommend that my clients not using this company when the opportunity exists. read more

I was looking for someone to repair some power shades that were installed by a now defunct blind company. They were fixed and working in a couple hours. Over a month ago I called Drop Shades and they told me the sales rep was on vacation so I hung up but then I thought I would give them another chance(hence the 4/5). The crew did a decent job installing my shades, however, because they didn't put a drop cloth down on my carpet, it became stained with black footprints. I am still not able to resolve this problem, as I need to have my carpet cleaned and Darren hasn't returned my call. I am not happy about this. read more

We had three large shades with motors installed on the west side of our condo in June, 2017. Within a few weeks one of the shades stopped working. It took a number of calls before we got to tell them about the situation but ultimately it was repaired. Their office assistant had left for a different job and the owner's daughter was subbing. The shades stopped working again in August and they were repaired again. Then there was trouble again in September. We asked for their most experienced installer to come out, he did and he made a third repair. Now during the rain this past week one of the shades came down in the middle of the night and it will not go back up. They have come to look at it and they've said it needs a new motor. (At least one of the earlier repairs involved a motor, too.) They don't have a motor with them in their truck and promised to come today. Today has been postponed to next Monday. All this time we cannot see a big part of the view from our kitchen. Who knows if they will come on Monday? We have had the shades for seven months and we've needed repairs four times. My account says I am in Portland but that's not the case any more. I live in Palm Springs. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I called them to measure for a solar shade the first part of May(I had purchased from them several years ago and was pleased). I called to order the next day - no call back. I waited a day and called again - still no call back. Finally called 5 times in one day - leaving messages each time. Called 1 more time to speak with Darren - he did get back to me and said he had receptionist problems and I'd have my shade in a week. 2 weeks later, I called to find out where my order was, and receptionist said owner had to call me on that - of course, no call. 100% recommend. My parents house had needed shades but didn't know too much about what they wanted whether it was a drop shade or awning they wanted. Darren the owner, had came out for an estimate. He was right on time and very friendly. He has explained a couple options he thought would look very nice with my parents home as well as doing the job of blocking the sun in this 120° weather!!! He had shown us pictures of previous jobs before, and had samples of different colors we could go as in fabric wise. He had told us all about the sun and wind sensor that comes with the awning and my parents had decided to go that route. We had them out here exactly two weeks later installing the awning and we absolutely love it! Very nice guys who installed wasn't Darren himself, but had his workers come out and they got the job done fast & looking good! The sun always would beat down on our furniture and now we don't have the problem of our furniture fading and keeping it cool inside the house, as well of looking very sharp.
