I'd consider this more informational than an actual review, due to the fact I never received a finished product. This business is unusual in that you front money and enter into the process without any idea of the actual finished cost. I had an external hard drive that failed. The drive contained backups from my MacBook, as well as several digitized videotapes from home and work. I took it to Best Buy Geek Squad and they referred me to AI Networks. I paid 98 dollars (half the regular price for Best Buy customers) to have the drive evaluated. They called back two days later to report the drive was broken and it would take another 4 hours to further evaluate it. I authorized and paid another 400 dollars to move forward. I received another call a few days later saying that they had mapped the drive and it would be one to two days labor to recover just the video files. That would have amounted to another 1600 dollars on top of the money I'd already paid. Of course, there was no guarantee of success, and like other IT projects I'd seen over the years, there is always cost creep. After thinking it over, I elected to cut my losses and not to move forward. In the end, I kissed off 500 dollars for nothing. Had I known how much it would cost for the data recovery, I'd have never even started. Other than the initial evaluation, no one from AI explained how much it could potentially cost in the end. Keep in mind, it was only a few video files and not the entire drive contents. So, if you are in the unfortunate position of having lost your hard drive, know what you're getting yourself into with data recovery. Be prepared to spend thousands of dollars or just save yourself the hassle and call it a loss. The folks at AI were nice and responsive though, and if its a business issue, maybe its worth your money. read more

This place is horrible I had alot of money to get some music videos and in return I get nothing . I was getting the run around for moths and moths . A couple hundred dollars down the drain for no forage . I just talked to a gentleman named Lou we have been taking for moths about my drive and footage . I have been getting bad service here overall and when I talk to him on the phone he doesn't care that I paid to get footage and got nothing . Total rip. They charge $95 for a diagnostic when everyone else is free, including the company right next door. Completely disorganized. When you walk in you'll wonder if you're at a business or recycling center. When I took my drive in at 11am they said they would have the diagnostic done in 1 hour and would call me. When I called at 2pm to get an update I was told "the person working on my drive had just stepped out for lunch and should be back any time." Paul and Lou are THE BEST! My 2018 Macbook Pro had froze up while my 2TB WD Element external hard drive was plugged in. I had to do the thing you weren't suppose to do, which is to just unplug the external without being able to eject it. And then of course, my files were all gone. The worst possible thing that could ever happen to me.. my Hard Drive didn't turn on. All my precious memory is gone!!! I took it to a local computer repair shop and they couldn't fix it. The staff was very friendly and worked diligently to restore my dropped hard drive (which they did restore), but they were very unclear with how long this repair would take and how much that would cost. After my local computer store said they thought the Harddrive needle arm that reads the data was broke. I then took it to Drive Crash in Irvine. After they said they could not recovery any data, they needed to charge $475 for a clean room. I believed they would replace the needle arm in the clean room. Literally only days before my hard drive crashed, I was saying, "I really need to get a back-up system in place." I don't know if my drive was trying to telepathically tell me what was going to happen or not, but I should have listened. Lou never promised they'd be able to save everything, but he told me they'd check it and give me an estimate. The drive took more work than I expected, but in the end DriveCrash delivered an external drive with what appears to be every one of the data files that I thought might be either lost or damaged. My only suggestion would be that if you want to have the data returned to you on a "standard" hard drive instead of an external drive that you make this known up front and deliver the replacement drive with the bad one. The default is to give you your data on an external drive. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about their service. This is a detail I didn't think about up front and I think I might have been more satisfied if I'd thought about it and even more satisfied if they had suggested it. The price for the service is not cheap, but hard lessons rarely are. I will now be extra diligent in my back-up routine. read more

My WD external drive stopped working while backing up some photos. After spending weeks trying to figure it out with various online software and pretty much any tips that I read, I contacted DriveCrash.
