Thankful for smart people that have over the top technology, to help clumsy people like me! It's super scary to hand your hard drive, with super private info, to someone you don't even know. But also, when you have just reformatted your computer and thought you're being all awesome, because you've backed everything up, onto an external HD, but then it falls onto the tile floor, and all it does it beep, you kinda freak out, esp when it's your business that is on that Hard Drive and you just have to trust that someone is able to fix it for you. While I was at it, I had another HD that completely let out on me, not ever dropped or anything so not sure what happened, but figured I'll drop it off as well. The one that dropped, I was pretty confident, could be saved, but the other one, not so much!!!! I was so nervous until I finally heard from them. I had tons of questions and Erik was super patient with me, which I appreciate it as well! Overall, not cheap, BUT, they were able to almost fully recover the hard drive that dropped. And, to my surprise, they were able to recover some data from the other hard drive that just gave out on me! I was able to get videos back from when my kids were babies, that I didn't even remember I had backed up, because it's been broken for so long. So I reached out to Orange County Data Recovery to fix my Western Digital hard drive that got fried. Upon contacting them, I was told by Erik that the estimation should be in the range of $400-750 depending on the severity of the hard drive's condition. After the weekend, I got a call and was told the fix would cost $750 due to various generic electrical issues that were not fully explained. I also had to provide a new hard drive to put the data on or pay another fee to have one provided for me. I decided to take back the drive and go elsewhere. After going to another place, I was quoted $384 for the fix. All of the data was recovered from the drive, and I was able to continue using my existing hard drive since it was just a simple PCB replacement. I was basically able to find another business that provided the service at 50% the cost, and my drive was fixed in one business day. I'm sure Orange County Data Recovery would have done a fine job recovering the data, but the cost of the service is just outrageous when compared to other local competitors even if one were to use the 10% off yelp check-in discount. read more

These guys are just amazing. Here's what happened: I'm house sitting for my folks when my dad calls a needs some thing on his iMac sent to him. I turn on the computer and notice the it's taking forever to start. I know enough to try and get to the Disk Utility to back up the hard drive. No can do, computer won't let me back up. As things start to get worse I start to wig out and think maybe I should take it to Apple to see what they can do. I'm glad I skipped my appointment at the Apple Store. I look up these guys on Yelp and they have legit skills and know-how. What most folks don't realize is that if you don't back up your hard drive before taking your Mac to Apple, you will lose most if not all your data. In the situation I was in was that the back up was MIA, and my folks has no idea if they even ever had backed up their files. Turns out that the pretty much had all the most important thing pertaining to them was on that computer. Yikes! I called up Erik and he talked me down from the ledge. He told me to bring it in and he would see what he could do. I drop it off the next morning and by that afternoon I get confirmation that the data was being recovered. Highly recommend. My external hard drive stopped working during a move. The hard drive had 3TB of valuable information. Not only did Erik speak with me multiples times on the phone to calm my nerves, his team was able to recover all of my files. Erik and his company SAVED us. Our QNAP RAID server Failed with 8 drives of data becoming scrambled after QNAP tried to "fix it" possibly making it worse. I had such a positive experience! My WD external hard drive failed. I dropped off my drive on a Thursday at their office near Irvine Spectrum. On Monday I got an update from Erik stating the diagnosis of what went wrong & a quote on how much it would cost to recover all the data. I gave him the green light. Two days later Erik sent me a zip file listing all of the file names that were recovered. I reviewed the list to make sure nothing was missing, then gave him another green light to proceed.
