We got ripped off by this establishment last week. Spent 50 dollars on 3 dinners, the finger steak baskets had 6 tiny pieces of some kind of breaded meat, and there were about 11 French fries in each box. The bartender was extremely rude and did not care about any of that, saying that food costs are high and apparently the owners of this place train their help to steal the patrons money and serve them garbage that's not fit to give a stray animal. You all should be ashamed, eventually you will lose your business and file for bankruptcy if that is how you treat your customers. Loved this place it's a gem! I gave four stars because there are stairs, no elevator and we had a lot of stuff to haul up also I called a few times with questions and got voicemail so that stressed me out a bit. However, the service is outstanding and the restaurant and bar are first rate with super friendly staff. I loved our room big and spacious the bathroom is also big. Many friends of the area told us this is a really good place to eat. Meh. I had prime rib, and the wife had a microwave heated chicken cordon bleu. The kind you buy in the frozen section at Costco. The prime rib was cut thick, and portions were cooked medium from one side to rare on the other. My seasonal veggies were the packaged frozen green and yellow beans you buy at the grocery store. Heated in the microwave so the middle was cold and floppy. The horseradish sauce for the prime rib was great. So if you enjoy horseradish for a meal, then this is the place for you! We were the third couple in the restaurant and were able to pick any seat. However it took 1 1/2 hours to get our meal. They are short staffed. The waitresses did an excellent job, however they had to apologize constantly for the kitchen not getting food out in time. read more

During the transition to new owners, we gave grace for the poor service and food. We visited again this week and were so disappointed. I would think it's difficult to mess up grilled shrimp, but mine was dry and flavorless. Black char marks tasted like charcoal. The plate was unappealing, as black bits were all around the edge. Servers and cooks were tossing food in their mouths as they left the kitchen to serve customers. Hand to mouth and then back to serving or cooking. Nothing sanitary about that. The service was slow and not very friendly. We would hate to stop coming here but if things don't improve we won't have a choice. Bummed. read more

I grew up in Rupert ordering the finger steaks and have recently rediscovered under the new ownership. The food is really quite wonderful, our service has been outstanding and charming. Sat night Date night we decided to try out the Driftinn as another place was closed that we wanted to try. So glad we did. It was our first time. We have always walked by thought that it was more for the hotel or bar like place. It is not and for small town Rupert we were surprised by the selection and quality of our meals. Food and customer service was great. I had Chicken Alfredo recommended by our waitress Jessica I hope this is her listed on our receipt. She was friendly and checked on us for refills and how our dinner was going) It was the best I've had in years. My husband had a ribeye was cooked just like he likes it. Both were yummy and of good sized. We had left overs. We also had the spinach dip also good with fresh fried potatoes chips. That was a treat. We haven't had those in years. To end dinner we had raspberry donut cheesecake. If you want a date spot or family eating out this is the place. Food, customer service were on point and price was not crazy we paid $67 before tip for 2 meals, 2 drinks, appetizer and dessert. We will definitely return and recommend eating here. read more

On our recent road trip, we stopped for lunch in Rupert. Our SUV was running on empty and, to be truthful, so were we! :D We checked out a couple of restaurants that looked good on Yelp but since Henry's Drift Inn was close, we parked our U-Haul and truck on the street. (It didn't hurt that the locals gave great reviews of the food either!) True to expectations, Henry's Drift Inn had THE BEST BLT with avocado that I've eaten in 'forever'! YUM!! It came with a very generous freshly chopped salad that had all kinds of terrific vegetables in it. The Blu Cheese dressing was fresh and flavorful, too. Highly recommend skipping Boise and driving on through to Rupert just to eat at Henry's Drift Inn, even if it is another 10-minutes off the freeway! Do it! read more

Hi...Service was AWFUL!!! We sat at 7:50... didn't get our dinner until 9:20. PARTY OF 3. I tried to get our servers attention and she avoided eye contact. 2 tables seated after us got bread and appetizers before us. When we finally got our dinners,we ordered the lamb chops with 3, they brought 2 and said the 3rd one was on its way. My prime rib was amazing...however it was very disappointing that my vegetables were clearly something out of the frozen food section of a grocery store. surrounded by farm fresh fields, this was a disappointment. read more

The drift is suffering. It needs to start taking care of business, which is customers and stop trying to make money. Once they do that, they'll make the money. It seems they are cutting corners in almost every area. Prices are up, quantities are down . Food is acceptable, service is ok, both could be better but that's not what is killing them. It is the fact that everything is just ok but the prices are high for just ok. Raise the bar in all areas which will amount to more customers, which will mean you can make money without raising prices. read more

I have loved this place, the rooms, for the last five years I have stayed here on my annual trip south. However on my last recent trip this fall (during Covid), the employees and waitstaff wore no masks or even pretended to. As such I will be staying elsewhere until Covid is over. I love supporting local businesses in my home town. I especially love that this is a historic building and it has been beautifully restored. My boyfriend and I came in on Saturday afternoon for lunch. We were greeted right away. Our server took our order and brought out our food quickly. We were in and out in 25 minutes which was great and worked very well for us since we were in a rush. The food was very tasty. This is one of my to go to spots in town for whenever I come to visit. They have 2 different sections for dining. I was born and raised in Rupert. I worked at this restaurant when I was in high school. I am retired and do a lot of traveling and therefore eat out frequently. I now live outside of Omaha Nebraska. I still have family and friends here and visit 1-2 times a year. I have to say the 1/2 BLT was very good. The salad was somewhat wilted but the homemade blue cheese dressing was also good. There was 4 of us and they had finger steaks and onion rings which were also good. This whole review was based on our server BILLIE. I wanted a 1/2 sandwich which was not available in a 1/2. Okay, when I asked what kind of soup they had "we don't have soup today". I then went to use the restroom and noticed other customers eating soup inside the restaurant. When I returned to the patio area she was serving another customer who arrived 45 mins after us, soup. I also noticed that she kept telling customers who attempted to sit and order food that they closed at two and that the kitchen was closing down. It was only 12:30. They didn't close till two. She offered drinks but they left. Then other people would come and she waited on them and served them food. She was selective in who she served and what food she would serve them. Wow! Your restaurant must be doing so well that you can turn paying customers away. Maybe she is an owner and can afford to do this. Or maybe you are like a lot of other food service that can't hire enough or have enough good people to represent your business. My husband went in and saw what I saw and confronted her regarding the non-existent soup. She lied, and said they ran out. She served soup to another customer on the patio that arrived after us. My soup must have been too heavy. There was also two smokers at our table that she approached and told them as long as they were serving food that they could not smoke. I can appreciate this but she failed to do the same thing to another table with smokers. I noticed she was the only waitress. One waitress is all you will need after she destroys your business with her behaviors. Needless to say, her $20.00 tip (30 percent) decreased to 7 percent. We were not sure but feel she was punishing our table for occupying it too long. We were visiting with friends and family. I have to say we will probably not use your establishment again. read more

It's a good thing we had hours with nothing else to do. We waited more than an hour and 15 minutes to get our appetizer. The appetizer, potachios ended up getting burned and could not be served, so we waited another 15 minutes to get our main meal. The waitress proceeded to tell her customers at the bar all about our burned food and poor service, laughing. Hello, we are right here and can hear you! And complained that now she would have more damage control to deal with. We did eat bread and butter that was good. The salad tasted like it had not been rinsed and was put directly on the plate from a bag. Once our main course finally arrived it was ok I had the chicken strips with fries, my wife had shrimp and baked potato. Chicken strips were good but pretty small portions. The shrimp was good but my wife's big potato was cold. I don't think we will be eating here again anytime soon read more

The closest thing to a pub in Rupert. The bar has knowledgeable staff which passes the martini test. Beautifully decorated, comfortable booths and chairs. During the summer they have a covered patio and often have live music. Most tables have a view of one or both of the community's two prides: the city square and the refurbished Wilson Theater. If you go in before 5pm you eat and drink in the bar. After 5pm they open up the dinning room and no under age persons are allowed in the bar. Regarding food: when the owners stick with dishes developed by themselves they excel - finger steaks, potachos, etc. But a majority of their menus is mainstream food service items which is 'okay.' In the past they have employed chefs who created fantastic specials but recently the specials are food service items too as are their desserts But it's the best dining experience in the Mini-Cassia (Minidoka and Cassia countries) area. Service is good when you get a waitress who's made it past their training, but turnover (except in the bar) keeps servicing level moderate. The bar has somehow retained a cadre of good bartenders. The owners are community stewards and take pride in the renovation work they did on this and their other restaurant, E Street Deli. As a local I appreciate there is a restaurant of its caliber in our little town. As a recovering restaurant and bar owner I can appreciate the challenges they face in staffing, training and developing from scratch dishes that appeal to the locals. It would be a five star in the Mini-Cassia area and somewhere between a three and four when compared to other southern Idaho restaurants. If you are looking for the closest thing to fine dinning in the Mini-Cassia area this is your first stop. read more

We stayed here on our first night of a cross-country road trip and loved it. It was peaceful and quiet and comfortable. The bathroom was nice and clean. Our room (Creason) was located in such a way that there was no room above or below us and also no common walls with other rooms, so it almost felt like we were the only guests. We slept well and enjoyed walking around the little town square the next morning. The location was convenient to everything. read more

We stayed in the Drift Inn after kayaking and hiking all day. We loved the hotel, bar and restaurant. The women who run the bar were very very friendly, as well as the people sitting around (locals). We are from California and everyone hates us now because of our crazy state, but the people at Drift Inn treated us like family. We ate dinner at the bar, served by B Melvin (name on receipt). While the atmosphere at 2:30pm on a Tuesday leaves a bit to be desired (read: EMPTY), the staff was extremely friendly and the food way surpassed my expectations. If you're not feeling the steak fingers, give the chicken ranch wrap a try. I love that they toss the lettuce in the dressing before they put it in the wrap. The steak fingers were crispy and steak..y. They are cooked in a tempura batter which gives them a nice crispy texture. I really like going to the Drift to eat. Generally, I'll have a sandwich of some sort like a Reuben and they are a generous size. I'm never disappointed. Last week my son and I rode the bike and sat outside in the patio. It was a pleasant experience but I guess the waiter was really busy so our order took a while in being taken. I can wait but I hate it when I start thinking "Today!!" I was feeling like saying that the other day. Who knows. They were probably very busy inside. I would like to say how truly disgusted I am with how I was treated when my service dog tried to enter the establishment!!! I have a disability I choose not to share but to say it does require a service animal to be with me, is is my best friend and truly a life saver.just because he did not have his vest on they treated us like we was lying, they did not even look at his collar tag told him to sit out side ,I tried to explain and even try to help educate them they was rude .it wasn't bad enough they was rude to me but what angered me is we told them he was trained still they treated my best friend with no respect he is beside me every day just in case saving my life that is what makes me upset .is short I'm going to be taking this as high as I need to to make sure they don't treat others with service animals as we was treated read more

My husband and I stopped in Rupert, ID because we were camping our way from Boston to Portland. It was the kind of place where everyone knows everyone else, but is still super friendly to strangers! When we showed our IDs to order beer (something like 6 taps, half of which were microbrew) and the waitress exclaimed "Massachusetts! I've been here 9 years and that's my first MA license!" The food was an amazing surprise! We both ordered seafood dishes - risky coming from our East Coast spoils of lobstah, oysters, and Atlantic cod. But the hubbie's seafood linguini had whole crab claws and my Cajun grilled salmon was cooked to moist perfection. It was his birthday so we ordered home made berry cobbler for dessert. We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. The place was amazing, clean, charming, and it had a "media room" that had a TV, couch, and fun board games. We had our 3 year old that loved it. They also had a coffee bar and snack station with a fridge with drinks, snacks, and microwave. For lunch we ate at the diner downstairs and the food was GREAT. I live out of state, but was here visiting relatives over the 4th of July holiday. We came here to eat dinner where 2 of us ordered rib-eye steaks, and the others' got the finger steaks. The rib-eyes had on off flavor, somewhat like meat beginning to spoil, and had a somewhat strange grey coloring, unlike what a fresh cut would have looked like. We told the waitress about it and ordered prime rib in it's place, which was fine. When I later asked the waitress to confirm with the preparers in the kitchen, she just said there was nothing wrong with them. Anyone who's ever eaten steaks, or beef for that matter would certainly know someone was lying. Not a good way to run a business if you don't acknowledge mistakes, and take steps to correct them. I wasn't impressed with our waitress either. I had to go up to the counter to pay the bill, then she acted like it was a real bother when I asked for change to break a twenty. Being that's the case, I probably should have just kept the twenty and left without giving a tip, which was the reason for my asking for change. read more
