We got Drift Dough donuts by way of Old Abe's Coffee, and they were great! The raised donuts are unfortunately not vegan (I have an egg allergy, so I'm always on the lookout for vegan baked goods), but the cake donuts are, and they had a fun lineup of flavors when my husband and I visited. One thing to note is that the address for Drift Dough isn't the address for Old Abe's Coffee, and I am not sure if that's an address for the bakery or something, but all signs pointed towards the donut shop being inside Old Abe's, so that's where we went. I got the ube donut (the purple one), and as someone originally from Hawaii, it was really great to see ube flavor is making it out to the Midwest now! The flavor is not super strong in the donut, so if you haven't had ube before, I think this would be a nice, mild introduction. My husband got the raised Tiramisu donut, and while he liked it, it's definitely bigger than the cake donuts and was a bit too much donut and frosting for him, but your mileage may vary (I like to think my stomach has a special compartment just for donuts, because it always seems that way, LOL). We got a nice cold brew with oat milk to wash the donuts down, and we will definitely be back next time we're in town! read more

I ordered a fruity pebble doughnut, their regular cinnamon sugar doughnut, a pink sugar doughnut and their cotton candy doughnut (the white frosting with blue and pink sprinkled one). I specifically ate the fruity pebble doughnut and had a bite of the unicorn doughnut. I LOVE doughnuts, they are my favorite food, so I could never rate one very low. The doughnut itself was very good, nice texture and complimented the frosting very well. But, and this could be because I arrived near their closing hours, the fruity pebbles were very stale and did not offer any crunch that I was expecting. Still, the flavor was there and the actual doughnut, like I said, was good. The cotton candy doughnut was okay. It tasted more like a sugar rush than cotton candy, but that's to be expected anyway. For donuts in Rochester Mn, it was the best they had. Having visited there twice, I kinda feel like they made the donuts the night before and lift them over night in a cold kitchen. They were really tasty but just missed the opportunity to provide a warm fresh donut. That just gives you that all around warm feeling of coffee with a charmed cake donut. Loved the flavors. This one is a BIG YIKES for me. They have a sign outside and you walk in and there is zero mention of where to go for the donuts. The person at the bar watched us wander aimlessly and finally we had to ask the brewery hostess where to go. Finally got to the counter and they were out of all but two donuts and neither were vegan. We got there at 11, and they opened at 8 and were supposed to be open until 1. So they ran out of donuts 3 hours into opening. Went here for a coffee with a friend in the afternoon, by this time most of the donut selection was slim. They do specialty donuts with some interesting flavor profiles but a little pricey, then again its what you expect to pay for specialty donuts. The coffee selections are what you typically will receive anywhere nowadays in a place that advertises as a coffee shop... you have your drip coffee, cold brew, latte, cappuccino, espresso, etc. The coffee is from impact and is very good. We just recently bought an espresso maker where its highly advisable to use freshly brewed coffee beans. We bought two bags from here and the quality is great with awesome flavors. We will definitely be coming back to buy more brewed coffee beans for our espresso maker. read more

These cake donuts have been a hit when I brought them in for a group. They have a good variety of flavors, vegan options, and are fairly moist. You can order a dozen (or more) for pick-up on their website ahead of time as well. My only ~minor~ complaint is the price of the small donuts (which could definitely be way worse), but I understand that that comes with non-mass made, delicious donuts. The donuts I tried ranged from down right amazing to these are good donuts! The lemon poppyseed donut and apple were my favorite and would get every time! Fantastic!!! Just moved to the Midwest from living in Florida, Texas, and the Northeast. So I have had the pleasure of eating some amazing regionally specific doughnut styles (born and raised in Lancaster, home of the Shady Maple doughnut). But I have been so sad because I haven't been able to find good doughnuts out here (in La Crosse WI). My wife and I were on a shopping trip in Rochester and stopped in to Forager for a late lunch and some beer. We saw these doughnuts in the cafe portion on our way in and decided to get some on our way out for dessert. After spending two hours hanging and eating/drinking at forger we went to grab doughnuts BUT they were already shut down. My wife was very sad, she had been looking forward to them and we should have bought them before eating lunch. I asked the man who had been selling them if they were closed and he informed me that he's they were but would be back tomorrow. I told him we lived in La Crosse so this is like a once a month trip. And he was So nice and said he would see if they have any left. They did! Just a handful of the maple bacon and the honey butter. And he sold them to us even though he closed out is POS! IT WAS SO NICE! NOW ABOUT THR DOUGHNUTS! The bacon maple was good but not amazing. The dough is amazing, the bacon was nice and crispy and salty (sometimes I have had maple bacon doughnuts and the bacon is too sweet) this bacon was perfectly salty. The only thing I didn't like was it wasn't quite mapley enough and the glaze was too brittle it cracked and fell off the doughnut while I was trying to eat it. The Honey Butter was INCREDIBLE! It was the right amount of honey, the chamomile was fragrant and soothing and went perfect with the buttery doughnut. Honesty, top 10 doughnuts of my life (and I have had a lot of doughnuts). We actually ate these the next morning and they were still moist but held together for dunking in coffee. read more

The most accurate info for this business seems to be their Facebook page. There is a Drift Dough and an Old Abe listing here on Yelp but they are both outdated and inaccurate (the addresses, and maybe even what types of food they offer now, and how they run). Drift Dough is currently in the building/business formerly known as "Old Abe" on 7th St. You can only park in the street which isn't bad (meaning: not overly busy traffic, and the streets are on the wider side/not narrow). They have interesting and tasty flavors of cake donuts that change, and seems like they can run out quickly within a few hours. I have not tried out anything else on their menu (the drinks or meals, in order to comment on those). The place is cozy and pleasant to sit and chill with a coffee and your laptop. They have two small rooms to sit in: The main one you walk into and one on the other side of a wall (which has a nice wooden bench at the table). We've been here about five times now, and I'm sure we'll be back again. We've tried around 19 different flavors, and they were all amazing. I think my current favorites include the lemon poppyseed, cotton candy crunch, key lime pie, and apple streuz. It's about time that Rochester got a place like this. I was dying to try these donuts based on their Instagram posts. The donuts look like perfection! Sadly, the wonderful flavors don't translate well. I tried 6 flavors and they were "good" at best. Nothing tasted bad, but the donuts were just donuts. The chocolate sea salt donut tasted like a typical chocolate donut covered in salt.
