This is a little overdue my wedding was in December of 2012. Shelley is a wonderful seamstress and tailor! She made a custom lace jacket for my wedding dress. She sewed covered buttons down the back. The Jacket fit perfectly! She made my wedding dress fit perfectly and found lace to match the dress. She also sewed on hooks and eyes and color coded ties for my train that turned into a beautiful bustle. She installed cups that made the bust fit me. I would definitely recommend her to all my friends that need alterations for their gowns. She was great at communicating with me and very organized with almost weekly fittings. She even has rental petticoats (which I needed a huge one for my ballgown wedding dress) and veil rentals. She is very affordable for the quality of work and she helps you save anyway she can. I had decided I wanted to make my own bridesmaid dresses(6 of them) and every thing was going well until I got to zippers and hems two days before my wedding!!! Shelly was amazing! Although my dress didn't need a ton of alterations, Shelly made the whole process so easy and stress-free. Her years and years of experience are made apparent by the fact that Shelly really seemed to think through all the different situations that I would need to take into account on my wedding day, and suggest the appropriate alterations to ensure that I would be comfortable in my gown. I wore a a-line ballgown with a very long train, so you know I was dealing with a LOT of dress. Not only were Shelly's alterations expertly done, but she was also incredibly affordable. You can really tell that Shelly isn't out to price gouge you - she really seems to love what she does and just wants to make sure her brides are happy. I never once felt pressured to acquiesce or just accept something she said, and she took all my opinions and concerns into consideration. Getting an appointment with Shelly was super easy, and her assistant Karen was easy to talk to and prompt in returning all calls. I think I only had 3 or 4 fittings, but Shelly worked with my schedule and was very flexible and helpful in setting up a time for my father to pick up my dress in the early evening hours of a Friday night so he could drive it to my venue. She was even flexible and totally laid back when it came to renting and returning her hoop that I used under my dress. Since getting married a year ago, I have recommended Shelly to as many people as I can because she really deserves and works hard for the business. Not to mention, I recently bought a cocktail dress that had a full front zipper that broke after the 1st time I wore it. My husband took it to his tailor and was quoted $150 to replace the zipper. I thought that seems atrocious for what was just one little metal piece missing, so on a whim I gave Shelly a call and although I didn't have a big money wedding dress, she squeezed me in for an appointment a few days later. After just 10 minutes of being there, Shelly had thought up a quick and easy fix of just sewing the last 2 inches of the zipper together - duh! And, because it took her so little time, she didn't even charge me and told me that if the dress gave me problems in the future, to bring it back to be totally repaired. How sweet is that? 99% of my experience with Shelly was great. She did a great job understanding what I wanted done with my wedding dress, and was very competent at her craft! She also made everything very affordable, so I was willing to drive an hour to see her for each fitting. She was fast and easy to work with! Note: If you need a veil, she can make one and rent it to you for $15! Major plus. She made me one that looked exactly like the $425 veil I was considering buying. The only reason she doesn't get 5 stars from me is as follows: I picked up my wedding dress the last time from her after hearing over and over how it was a simple last fix, it's all handled, all done, ready to go, etc. I was running very late the day I was supposed to pick up my dress, as it was just a few days before my wedding, and as I live an hour from her. So we agreed that I could just come in and grab it vs trying it on one last time. She confirmed that "Yep it's all done and ready to go". On my wedding day, about 2 hours before my ceremony, I put on the dress and found that the seams on both sides were unfinished. She had let them out but hadn't removed the threading, or pressed the dress there at all. So it looked 100% obvious that it was half-done alterations. I freaked out, and by a few strokes of good luck, we got a steamer, an iron, a good pair of scissors, and my mom turned into a seamstress on the spot and fixed it for me. I would not wish this on anyone, so I am sharing it here. TRY ON YOUR DRESS BEFORE YOU TAKE IT HOME! While we fixed the problem before the ceremony, I was still disappointed in Shelly's response to the issue. She took NO responsibility and said it was all my fault and blamed me completely. I was expecting an apology and maybe a change in her operations to require a fitting before a bride takes a dress home, to ensure it didn't happen to anyone else. She did give me a small refund on my request, but still no apology or responsibility taken. read more

I never got to Dressing up for Shelly to alter my wedding dress. While she gets rave reviews for her work, communication at this place is ridiculous. After calling twice and emailing, I had to get the bridal salon that referred me to get ahold of Shelly. I then tried to call to confirm and see about moving up my appt since my original one was one week before the wedding. But after 3 messages I got a voicemail from her assistant giving me dates and times and telling me to text her back. Which I did and never heard back from the text. I was referred to Shelley by Blush Bridal Couture where I bought my dress. Shelley is very pleasant and easy to work with. I came in with an Essence of Australia dress that I wanted transformed. I showed her pictures of what I had in mind and she went to work! My dress turned out absolutely beautiful and EXACTLY what I wanted. I received a ton of compliments on my wedding day and Shelley is to thank for it! The only reason I gave her 4 stars rather than 5 is because the day before my wedding I wanted to try to walk in my dress (Shelley only had me try it on in her house but didn't have me walk). I was a bit nervous because the dress is very poofy! :) When I tried it on I noticed one piece of tulle that had not been hemmed up into the skirt. It was hanging down right in the front and when I walked I immediately stepped on it! I freaked out a bit but one of my girls was able to sew it up into the skirt (thank goodness). However, while she was doing this she noticed THREE safety pins that had been left in the hem!! All I have to say is that I am so glad I did this trial run. I do also have to mention that the bodice was extremely tight when I picked it up from Shelley...and she said it was supposed to be tight and I will settle into the dress within a few minutes...um hello back fat!!! :/ Well the day of my wedding it was definitely still really tight...to the point where I had to go back to the ladies room and have my MOH unhook me for a bit so I could breathe!! I did "settle" into the dress after a while but it wasn't that comfy. Thank goodness I had a wardrobe change after the cake cutting!! All in all it was all worth it because the dress was amazing and the pictures came out gorgeous!!! Even though her shop is out of her home and she's a bit zany, you can tell right away that she knows what she is talking about. My dress came what felt like 10 sizes too large, but she had no issue tailoring my very beaded bodice. She was flexible, opinionated (in a good expert kind of way) and even tailored my mom's dress. She was also a little hesitant, but ultimately acquiesced when I asked for one of the petticoats to be removed underneath the dress (I felt it was a bit too cupcakey and I quoted her back when I said, "Shelley, you said it's the only time I can have exactly what I want!"). Given the complexity of my wedding dress (lots of layers plus lace pattern on the outside layer), it took about 5 fittings to complete the alterations. Not only did Shelley bring in the sample dress to my size, she shortened the multiple layers, added cap sleeves, and made a sash - all of these for a very reasonable price. don't get me wrong...Shelly's work itself is wonderful and definitely affordable. for just a few hundred dollars, she tore out layers of tulle and hemmed up my dress (since im short haha). she's a very nice lady and is really talented at what she does. i was very happy with the work that she did on my dress and appreciated the flexibility in payment plans but... Dressing Up needs to get its act together when booking and keeping appointments. I met with Shelly 3 times and while the first 2 meetings went off without a hitch...my 3rd meeting which was my actual dress pick-up was a nightmare! working with her assistant, Kristy (sp?) proved to be a challenge. i called 3 times and left voicemails each time needing to reschedule my appointment and heard nothing back. even after i missed my original scheduled appointment date/time, i didnt even get a call wondering why i was a no show. finally after my 4th time of trying to call, i get a hold of Kristy! apparently her 'internet was down' and that 12/31/12 was considered a holiday - well that doesnt explain why i didnt hear back on 1/2/13, 1/3/13 or 1/4/13 which were non-holidays or why i wasn't told that the office would be closed on 12/31/12?! then when i'm on the line with Kristy, she hangs up on me and i have to call back. luckily she picks up but has no record of me asking to reschedule my appointment and isnt apologizing at all for not returning my calls. luckily after some convincing, i was able to pick up my dress that same afternoon but it was such a hassle to just get my dress picked up. then when i show up to pick up my dress, Shelly really isnt very apologetic at all and says 'this happens sometimes' - huh?! haha sigh just some communication would have been great on the part of either the Dressing Up staff or Shelly herself. i highly recommend Dressing Up getting a better appointment making system down just in case situations like this ever arise again in the future. for future clients, i still do recommend Shelly based on her work and pricing alone but just be prepared to possibly go through some hassle just to make an appointment to see her haha read more

Shelly is the dress whisperer. She is brilliant I ended up selecting an Enzoani dress that had layers and layers of tulle and was very intricate and complicated. When I called Shelly to ask about prices and get some information she asked about my dress and was able to tell me everything that she would need to do. I tried calling a few other dress alterer but none of them had the knowledge or the confidence that Shelly had - they just wanted me to come in and said they would figure it out. I saw Dressing up on yelp and the great reviews and beautiful pictures and I decided to give it a try. My dress needed alot of work and didn't have alot of material to let out over my massive belly. At 1st she told me it couldn't be done...i was bummed but totally understood. Then we got to talking and I told her it was a rockabilly themed wedding and my colors were red, black and white. She got her creative juices flowing and worked her magic. She found fabric that almost matched perfectly added a extra panel in the back. No one was the wiser and many ppl thought it was part of the dress. She added a red zipper to go over my belly and a red ribbon to allow for extra room for my chest and movement of my arms. Shelley pays attention to details and makes recommendations to cut down costs for alterations. I rented a hoop instead of having the dress cut down. I did fall while dancing the hoop helped a bit but maybe I should have the dress cut a bit. I wore 4 inch pair of shoes, it might have been a little longer even with hoop. The falling could have been other barriers like someone stepping on my dress, the extra drinks or the wrong shoes, oops! It was all a blur towards at the end of the night. Things happened very quickly. I danced all night and enjoyed myself. Shelly will not recommend services to make money off her services. My dress alterations would have been pricey if she cause it was lace over lace and she would to manually remove lace and resow the bottom. I met her a few times to assure my weight didn't fluctuate. Shelly doesn't tell you what you want to hear. She is honest and full of energy. Shelly also changed the buttons on the grooms suit with the left over alteration material to match the suit. read more

I cannot express enough how great Shelley is. My friend was getting married and had chosen a bridesmaid dress that did not fit me, even with the largest size. My friend was getting her wedding dress alterations done through Shelley, so she suggested I bring the bridesmaids dress to see what could be done. Within 30 seconds of looking at the dress, Shelley already knew exactly what to do. The dress looked amazing after she was done with it, and she was able to take my measurements and add to the dress to fit my size. She gets you in and out quickly and is very efficient. She turned a potentially stressful scenario of finding a new dress into a scenario which had a solution. I had zero stress and got to wear the same dress as the other bridesmaids. (You couldn't tell it was altered either!) Shelley is also a total sweetheart, but does not sugarcoat anything or tell you something looks good if it does not.
