I began my alterations with Shelley back in February 2020, when my original wedding date was May 2020. We were so close to finishing our alterations until I had to postpone the wedding once the pandemic started. At that time, Shelley kindly offered to hold onto my two dresses at her place. After a year, once weddings slowly started resuming, I reached out and told her I would pick it up to make room for her other clients, and she left detailed notes inside my garment bag so that we'd know where we had left off, and how much of the fees had already been paid. I reached out to her assistant in January 2022, and was easily able to resume where we left off with alterations. And I finally just got married late February !! By the way, the fees that Shelley charges are absolutely reasonable and probably the lowest you could find anywhere! Best of all, Shelley is so kind and funny, and made me feel so comfortable every time I came to visit. She knows her stuff, and does great, honest work. A coworker of mine recommended that I go to see Shelly for having my dream wedding dress hemmed and taken in-- she'd had her own dress done by Shelly, and looked STUNNING in it, and knew that a better price for quality could not be found. I am so thankful that I listened to my coworker who also had a first rate experience, because Shelly went so far above and beyond the call of duty to mold my dramatic ballroom wedding dress to my petite body. I showed up to Shelly's address with a mask on for a consultation, and Shelly also thoughtfully wore a face mask in her own home. She made me feel safe to enter, even in the midst of a pandemic, for every single visit. We anticipated needing 3-4 visits, and ultimately ended up with 7-8 scheduled due to the complexity of my particular dress with its many layers, lengthy train, and an interesting layer with a complicated multi-part seam whose technical name I cannot recall. Anyway, Shelly did this all with incredible skill and efficiency, and even tucked in the bust area to fit me perfectly. I was confident that my strapless sweetheart top would not result in any wardrobe malfunctions because of Shelly's craft. She also gave me a new corset lacing ( mine had gone missing), and created a beautiful matching face mask with the same appliqué pattern as my dress. Shelly even made a silk mask for my husband and instructed me in how to care for these items. Because I am so much shorter than the previous dress owner and refused to wear stupidly high heels for my wedding night, Shelly also had to revise the entire bustle to accommodate my height, which I can guarantee was no small feat. Then, on the final appointment, Shelly also instructed my Matron of Honor on how to assist me get into the dress, lace it up, and bustle the thing. We practiced until we all felt comfortable, and it was the first time that I really, truly felt like a bride. The amount of work that Shelly far exceeded what she had originally quoted me, and for very high quality work in a timely fashion, well in advance of my wedding day. She did not change more than the quoted rate she gave me on our initial consultation, but I saw the value in her skill, her work ethic, and her compassion-- I chose to pay her much more than she asked because Shelly absolutely deserved it. Shelley is my hero. :) Plain and simple. For 3 months I searched bridal salons and found nothing I liked. I wanted a simple, halter sundress, with a high-low skirt, for our all outdoor, bbq wedding in the mountains. All salon dresses were "way too much dress" and way too expensive. At some point I had the idea to make my dress. It started out with a simple pattern, so I thought. My mom was going to make it for me. I really loved the lace used on one of the dresses I tried on in the store, so I found that lace online and planned to make it out of that. But the pattern I chose was a bit more complicated than my mom was comfortable with, expecially using lace. So the online search for a seamstress began. And I found Shelley. We met for the first time to go over my design. She literally pulled my idea out of my head, using a few random pics of dress pieces that did not go well together. We decided on dates for my first measurements and fittings, and soon the process was underway. At my first fitting, we both discovered that the style of dress I had chosen (a ruched bodice and high low skirt) was way too busy and not flattering at all. She had made exactly what I asked for but it just didn't complement my body shape. Plan B -- a much simpler, full-length sheath style dress, keeping the same halter top, adding godets at the bottom for some extra swing... At my first fitting in the new style, when I couldn't help the tears in my eyes, I knew this was finally my dress. :) Thru several more fittings the dress came together, and I am so amazed at the final result. It is better than I hoped for. Completely fitted to me, not too tight anywhere, totally flattering, and absolutely comfortable thru a long 12-hour day. I felt BEAUTIFUL and confident all day. And the look on my husband's face throughout the day told me all I needed to know... It was perfect. If YOU KNOW what you want, she can make it. If you have random ideas, she can tell you what won't necessarily work and what will. I HIGHLY recommend Shelley for any custom wedding gown creation. Shelly definitely knows her stuff when it comes to wedding gowns! She works on 50 dresses at one time and I have no clue how she manages to keep track of everything, but my dress was perfect! I had a long train, so we decided to go with a French bustle. Shelly did warn me that she made the loops/buttons somewhat loose in case my dress got stepped on... That way just the button or loop would tear and not rip my dress. That being said, all 5 of my buttons ripped that night! Shelly was right... Better for my bustle to break than my dress to rip! This review came a little overdue. I got Shelly's info through my friend who knows someone who had her wedding dress altered there. I had a push up bra and 1 point bustle added and waist open up a little. My dress was a bit long and hemming would have cost me $100 but Shelly suggested a loop to puff up my dress. I also took 2 bridesmaid's dresses in for Shelly to alter and everything cost me around $200. Handmanship was awesome. I love the fact that Shelly is very professional and she gets things done as promised. She was close to work so I was able to come by to try the dress on too. She was quick and I'm very satisfied. First of all I took my dress to a different alteration shop and they wanted to charge me $370 for a bunch of unnecessary alterations on my wedding gown. This fee did not include alterations on my reception dress nor my mother's two dresses. Shelly rec a hoop be put in under my dress to lift it and saved me a ton on having to hem the bottom of my gown. she also rents veils there and if theres one she doesn't have, she can make it for you! There were no issues with disorganized appts as previously mentioned in other reviews. I cant recommend her enough! As everyone has already said, Shelly is THE best! I found Dressing Up on Yelp in my frantic search for someone to change the straps on my wedding dress. Most of the places I had seen with multiple high ratings were in LA and I dreaded the drive out there from the south OC area. Not to mention, most of the places were either extremely rude or didn't seem to have experience with what I was looking to have done. When I made the call to Dressing Up, Karen was able to get me a consultation appt with Shelly and reassured me that I was in good hands. I didn't realize that the dress shop was out of a home so I was a bit worried when Google maps took me to a residence. Upon entering Shelly's fitting area, I fell in love. She has everything you could ever want for your big day, from the veils to the jewelry to the garter..and at the same prices you would find on Amazon. Once I tried on my dress, she knew exactly what needed to be altered and helped me make the decision for my custom straps. Two fittings later and I had the dress of my dreams. The straps were everything that I wanted for my dress and everything else fit like a glove. This is a very well overdue review of Shelly's amazing work. We had our wedding in 2016 and I found the most perfect dress (about 1.5 sizes too small) on sale as a sample at Ferndale's for CHEAP CHEAP. First picture is me trying it on at the store. It was a zip up - I did not want a zip up, I wanted a corset back. So, I bought it anyway with a promise from my mom saying someone could totally alter it, even with all the beading around the bodice. (Lol.) Then, I found Shelly, the angel of alterations. She made my dreams come true!!!! (AND KEPT THE INTEGRITY OF EVERY. SINGLE. BEAD.) She also removed some of the crinoline and secured some loose beads. She's amazing. I just recommended her to someone and, having moved out of state, I had to look up her number. So here is my review - 50 million stars for Shelly. She is an artist and truly an expert. We loved our experience! Having my daughter's wedding dress made was the only choice for us. We went all over LA and Orange County looking for the right dress and it just was not happening. When she talked to Shelly she was confident she would have the dress she wanted. We met with her and started the process it was reasonable priced and she listened to what we needed even if communicating something took a little conversation due to creating something from scratch is very creative. Not a good experience. My dress needed hemming. She said it would be a lot of work for her. She used a hoop saying it would fix the problem. My entire wedding day I couldn't walk more than 3 step without tripping on my dress. She was very dismissive when I mentioned alteration issues. When she took my dress in too much I told her it felt too tight and caused back fat. She said, "That's how it's supposed to be." She altered my strap design without telling me. She complained about other brides to me, which is not professional. She seemed to always be in a crabby mood, and overworked/overbooked. On my last appointment: I showed up 30 minutes early. She freaked out. She rudely told me, "What are you doing here? You're 30 minutes early. You're interrupting my work!" I said, "Okay, I could just wait in my car or sit in the living room until 30 minutes pass." Her in a huff: "Too late, you're already here." She was pissed. (She was not with a client) read more

First, Shelly is an amazing human being. She's honest with you and really works with your timeline. Second,Shelly put a hoop in my Enzoani Jenny dress for my wedding in August and that hoop worked wonders. Just a heads up, it's super expensive to do alterations to the bottom of an Enzoani Jenny or Dakota so if you don't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money, you have to put in a hoop and where extra high heels. That's what I loved about Shelly, she was super honest about this and my alterations ended up being really affordable. Sometimes it's good to save money somewhere! P.S. She walked my mom through how to do my corset on my wedding day and made some good suggestions regarding changing my bra underneath. I had trouble finding the perfect shoes for my wedding dress so when I finally did, I was only four weeks away from my wedding day and stressing out about finding a seamstress. I was referred to Shelly by my cousin who got married just a few months before me. She told me she was booked but could see me for a fitting in two weeks. I had a mini-freak out moment. Two weeks? That's really close to my wedding. She assured me that she could do it and asked that I e-mail her some pictures, which I did. In the meantime I decided to see another seamstress for an estimate. My wedding gown was made of chiffon and had about 5 layers of chiffon, organza, and netting. I needed a hem and a bustle and the other seamstress quoted me $500 and told me the bustle and hem are very difficult and I was better off buying a new dress for the reception. I thought to myself "are you on crack, another dress?!!" I walked out with my dress and prayed Shelly would tell me some better news. My appointment with Shelly was amazing. She told me not to worry - the dress would be done on time and way below $500. Sure enough she was right. The dress was hemmed and bustled PERFECTLY (7-point over-bustle), and best part it was 70% LESS than the $500 quote from the other seamstress. Do the math - the price was refreshing.
