What a find!! I'm a bridesmaid in my friend's wedding this coming May. One of five, and we all live in different parts of the country so, instead of having us all wear the same dress, the bride decided to make it easy on us and have us all wear the black dress of our choice. The catch: it had to be a floor-length gown. I have never worn a gown in my life. The shear thought of gown shopping was almost too much to bear. I searched through dozens of stores in Boston to no avail, and decided to head home to NJ for a weekend for a marathon dress shopping session with Mom. She asked around and got formal dress shop recommendations from all her friends, and on day one of our weekend decided we would start at A Step Up/Dresses & More, as it was the furthest away shop on our list. The shop is quite large for a specialty store, with racks and racks of dresses everywhere, both cocktail length and gowns. It's split into two sections: clearance/discount items and higher end items. Everything they have is out on the racks, so you can browse and select what you'd like to try on your own. I had dreaded going to a store and having to have things brought out to me by a high-pressure sales person, so this was great news to me. Laden with gowns (about 10 of them), I headed for the dressing rooms. I'm not the easiest size to fit-- two completely different sizes on top and bottom, with a broad back/shoulders and no hips or butt to speak of. I was going into this with low hopes. Of course there were a few dresses that didn't work out-- there always are. But there were two that were GORGEOUS! The saleswomen stopped by to say how much they liked both of them, and to offer any assistance, if needed. Ultimately, I went with the less bedazzled (lovely though the bedazzled one was), more practical of the two, which was, I'm told, very reasonably priced by gown standards (I really wouldn't know...). I was done with my dress shopping marathon by 12:30pm on day one, and was able to enjoy the rest of the weekend with my family worry-free! I felt like I had plenty of options to choose from (would've had even more if I wasn't restricted to black floor-length). If you're an easier-to-fit size than me, you'll have even more. Salespeople were kind, helpful, and low pressure. Overall, an A+ experience! Highly recommended! read more

Absolutely horrible service. Me and my bridesmaids went with a particular dress in mind, when we found the dress, tried it on and fell in love we were jumping at the opportunity to buy it, however the manager called the company and was told that the dress is out of production to our disappointment. At that point we were ready to leave and it seemed as if everyone working at the store descended on us, trying to get us to try on other dresses that we clearly not did not want and didn't even resemble the one we originally liked. interestingly enough the manager came back to us and told us, that they can get us the dresses or try to get it for us, i just had to leave my phone number and they would tell me for sure the next day which was monday. The next day i received not one... but FIVE phone calls with FIVE voicemails telling me to call as soon as possible because the company is doing the store a favor and won't be able to hold the dresses any longer. At work I was not able to respond and when i finally did respond to one of the many phone calls I had to be pulled away again and hurriedly told the sales associate on the phone I'd call back in five minutes but I didn't have five minutes to spare afterwards to call back. The following day I received ANOTHER phone call in the morning, I explained why I couldn't answer the phone, she made it seem as if I was upset at them and thats why I didn't answer the phone calls, I then told her I wasn't interested in the dresses any more because our budget and before I could finish my sentence she was saying 'thank you very much' and basically shut the phone in my face. plain rude! read more

Dresses and More has a huge selection of beautiful dresses for everybody. Judy, the owner, and all other employees I have come in contact with are extremely kind and helpful. For a school event, they donated dresses to us for the night and all models were content with their dress. I would recommend this store to all, especially due to the wonderful customer service. read more

Think twice before making a purchase here.Two days after I order a dress for my daughters wedding, the event was cancelled. I called the store and was offered a store credit. I willingly accepted and only asked that it be mailed to me. I never received it, even after calling and visiting the store. I disputed the charge with my credit card company but the store owner provided them with a copy of the credit. When I finally got hold of the owner she agreed to refund me the cost of the dress minus a 10% transaction fee and told me to have my credit card company charge her back. They told me only she can refund me the money. I let her know that and she told me she will speak with her credit card company. That was more than 2 weeks ago. So for a dress I ordered over 4 months ago I have no dress, no store credit and no refund. How is it possible that a merchant can continue to be in business when operating this way! read more

This store has been around for years, but the newest owner took over sometime in 2011. I knew that because I had to buy a dress for an Inaugural Ball in 2012.(Yes, THAT Inauguration!) The service was horrible. They just threw the clothes at me. They have no sense of style at all. To here at this place you need to know exactly what you want. The style, the color, the size, everything. Do not let them give you advice. They are only interested in selling the dress whether it looks good on you or not. The saleswoman told me (a size 8) that her friend who was a size 20 bought the dress and looked great in it. Be careful. read more
