Drava wines is a MUST visit on your Lodi wine adventures. We visited today at the recommendation of Lucas winery (highly recommend as well) and what an experience. The wine maker is the one serving the wines! He is very knowledgeable, personable and you can instantly tell he is very passionate about his craft. The wines were very good and very reasonably priced. The tasting room is small but if you have the pleasure of going in at the perfect time and get a one on one tasting with the wine maker, what an amazing experience. Fantastic winery, fantastic wine and a fantastic experience for our guests. We launched Destination Drivers wine tours in Lodi in 2019 and Drava was one of the first wineries we visited. William and Steven, brothers & co-owners of Drava Wines were warm and welcoming from the start. Went for the wine and chocolate festival, waited in line for 20 minutes for the grilled chocolate sandwiches they advertised. Steve served the person in front of me and the. Took his next sandwich inside to someone who wasn't even in line. I left. It just felt really rude. The rose was lovely. Just a bad experience for a festival event. You have to honor the line. Drava Wines is one of the newer wineries in Lodi, done in the new industrial style - similar to a hip new brewery instead of a lavish country winery. This setting allows the owner to offer a more accessible wine experience along Turner Road east of 99 in the industrial park area housing several other urban wineries. You will learn a lot about Slovenia while enjoying your wine tasting. William has many stories about his time there and the history of the winery that compliment his classic Lodi varietals. The focus is on several French grapes with a wonderful Merlot based Bordeaux blend with another great story. The tasting room is fairly basic with LOTS of Slovenian and Croatian memorabilia. This is another fun addition to the Lodi wine scene, especially for visitors looking for something a bit different. Drava Wines lacks the lush environment of most Lodi wineries, but this is a fun place that will still leave you with an enjoyable experience. read more

It took a bit to find the tasting room among the spaces, what we believe, an office complex area. Once in the tasting room, it was small but quaint and cozy. William was friendly as we chatted about the memorabilia in the room which led to delving about his past, and (because of my international experience),eastern Europe, the Balkans and Slovenia. We enjoyed the conversation especially with the other patrons there. We learned about that the winery is small and they produce small lots. Their wine selection was excellent - we particularly enjoyed the '15 Lodi Mourvedre. We also liked the unsophisticated labels on the bottles. We visited from recommendations and were pleased we did; however, we both agree that upgrading or perhaps, relocating would be nice for a better look outside...just a thought. read more

I had the great pleasure of experiencing two reds from Drava Wines recently and I was blown away by my enjoyment. The Grenache, winner of the Silver Medal - 2019 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, did not disappoint. This wine is smooth drinking with a subtle jam-like richness and floral hints. A must try. Also, the Mourvedre was very distinctive, exuding an autumnal like taste - woody and warm - almost cozy if possible. The Danish word hygge comes to mind. William Carson, the co-owner and operator is exceptionally knowledgeable and amiable, in a charming yet unobtrusive way. Sunday Funday! Drava is one of the newer wineries on the scene but the wines that we sampled were delicious! We stopped by after visiting St Amant and we were glad we did. One of the owners, William, poured for us, and was very detailed on the processing of grapes for the wines and his time living in Slovenia! I bought a bottle of delicious and jammy zin, and prior to us leaving, William advised us if we happen to be heading downtown, Twisted Barrel would be a great place to taste and offered us free tasting coupons! With my husband on a weekend trip around Northern California. I visited Sonoma, Napa, Lodi, Livermore and Modesto. While there were there perks to certain regions, Drava Wines really stood out in my mind as one of my favorite places to visit. We had a flight of their wines; all very impressive. My personal favorite was the cab franc, but you can't go wrong with any of their wines. The manager, Bill, really made the visit. He decorated the tasting room out with Eastern European flare, and had more than enough great stories about his time living in Slovenia... and the meaning behind the name of the winery. Make Drava your last stop in Lodi. Next door to a shipping store for mailing wine to most states. Come for the wine, stay for the history and feel you had a private tour to Slovania. Drava is a Slovenian river and the label of a new Lodi winemaker. This small tasting room is easy to miss, but worth the trip. The shop is packed with soccer memorabilia and Sylvanian newsprint featuring the history of the oldest vine in the world, (450 years old), harvested by the proprietor for publicity to the largest city in Slovenia, which owns the vine. Drava offeres several varietals of wine with good balance, complexity, and a nice finish. The wine quality rivals the best in the area at competitive and modest price points.
