Great cocktail menu (all cocktails $14) and Leighton is an excellent bartender. The amaranth was my favorite and not too sweet at all (plus it was gorgeous). The basement space is cozy and dark. There's not a ton of seats but there weren't a lot of people here when we went on a weekday so I'd guess reservations are the way to go on weekends. I'd absolutely return here with friends.

Dram & Grain is a speakeasy style bar under Imperial in NW DC. The bar downstairs is very nice and intimate setting. The drinks are good and dessert is amazing. Highly recommend for after dinner. Tip is included and there is also a random service fee.

A beautiful bar in a great location. A pleasant surprise of quiet in Adams Morgan! However, we were very disappointed with the cocktails. At $11 for happy hour we would have expected much better but they were all too perfumed or a poor combination of flavors!

I was in DC for the weekend and had a friend who worked at Dram & Grain so we stopped by for an after show drink. We showed up at 11pm and they weren't taking walk ins, luckily my friend had a table for us and the host showed us to the entrance. From the street you wouldn't even know this establishment existed, once inside the Imperial you are walked to the side of the building into a staircase the leads to the basement. We were immediately greeted and picked a table. I didn't know what to expect when showing up but I was instantly pleased with the chill, speak easy vibes. We were strictly here for drinks so my review is based on that alone. Our server was very informative and helpful when it came to drink selection. The atmosphere itself was fabulous, dimmed lights with candle lit tables really set the mood. Each of our drinks were so different and uniquely handcrafted, it was the perfect setting for a night cap. We visited on their third night open and everything we great, the staff was super knowledgeable, you'd think they'd been open for a while. I talked to the server a little about that business itself and it sounds like they have some exciting things planned for the future so next time I'm in town I'll be intrigued to see what more they have to offer.

I really liked the ambiance. They have alot of different types of whiskey. I wish the speakeasy was still open though

The space feels part-speakeasy, part-laboratory, where every cocktail is crafted with intention, story, and a little bit of magic. Their mixology roots run deep, drawing on technique + creativity to deliver flavors that feel familiar yet completely new. Here's what I tried (and loved): Lavender Killer Sally -- light + floral with a hint of citrus, beautifully balanced and so easy to sip Banana Bread Rum Old Fashioned -- warm + cozy, with notes of brown sugar + ripe banana; it tastes like a dessert you can drink Shared Secrets -- a gin-based peach sangria poured straight from a French press, releasing more fruit + aromatics right at the table -- interactive and delicious Latte Martini -- smooth, creamy, and bold with espresso; a perfect pick for coffee-cocktail lovers Butterscotch Russo -- sweet + silky with rich butterscotch notes; comforting without being too heavy If you're hunting for a cocktail bar that's equal parts craft + creativity, The Alchemist NEEDS to be on your list. 1334 U St NW, Washington, DC 20009 Save this post for your next night out + follow @daithefoodie for more food + drink gems across the DMV! #dmv #datenightdc #dcdatenight #speakeasybar #speakeasydc #dccocktailbars #dcbars #dcbarscene

We visited The Alchemist in DC and ordered the Banana Bread Rum Old Fashioned and a Fireplace…read morethemed cocktail with chocolate and cherry notes. Both were disappointing. The drinks tasted watered down and unbalanced. The banana flavor in mine was dull and overripe rather than fresh and vibrant. The smoke and fire presentation was nice, but the actual cocktails did not justify the $25 price point. The restroom was unacceptable. There was urine on the floor, a strong foul odor, and the surface was slippery. For a speakeasy positioning itself as upscale, this was a major miss. The space is very small and service was just okay. Overall, the concept has potential, but the execution did not meet expectations. I will not be returning.
