So this was going to be a one star review, but I'll tell you the story of why it is not. One day, there were drops of water falling from a doorframe in our office. Turns out the floor drain from the a/c units upstairs had pipes feeding into it that were leaking into the flooring around the drain and through the floor into our ceiling. Drake fellow comes out, makes a few little adjustments, convinces me he knows what he's talking about, I pay and he's on his way. Next afternoon, the ceiling is crying tears again. :-( I call Drake again and give them blunt feedback about their repair man and tell them in no uncertain terms that we were not happy with the level of service and quality of repairs performed. Drake sends out two guys this time, and they inform me that our previous repair dude is no longer with the company because of the quality of his work. These fellows proceed to make a trip for supplies and spend at least three times as much time providing a true solution to the problem, and tell me that I don't owe them another cent because it was not fixed right the first time. They explained what they did and why, and ensured all my questions and concerns were answered. I was impressed by the integrity of these guys, and their dedication to do what it took to do the job right. After a 7 year relationship with Drake Mechanical I am discontinuing their Maintenance Program after the following occurrence: During my Fall pre paid maintenance visit the technician told me I needed to replace a capacitor ($10 item) in my furnace with a charge of $270+. I questioned the amount and ended up speaking to the office manager who said it was not negotiable despite it was done during my routine maintenance visit, with some nonsense about travel expenses etc. The tech was already at my house! This appears to be a blatant attempt to take advantage of an elderly woman who was smart enough to look up the price of the part. I am cancelling their maintenance program and warn others to question their practices. This greatly saddens me, but the lack of response by this company forces me to stop doing business with them. read more

I had them put in a whole house shutoff that I can get to in case of an emergency, install a new water heater, move an existing noisy drain, and also install a new water softener system. Each time, I was happy with the results. They did a good job of communicating when they would be there and what would be done. read more

Hello, my sewage line plugged up twice in 7 days, so I called Drake Mechanical in both instances. The first time John Kitson arrived, and snaked out the line, which appeared to clear the obstructions. However a week later, the line backed up again, so I called Drake Plumbing again, and asked for Mr. Kitson to respond back. He snaked the line again, which cleared the line. The sewage line is only two years old, and was part of the reconstruction of the drain culvert by the Ada County highway district. My drain line was routed beneath the concrete culvert that they installed, and I am afraid that the culvert is now settling on top of my sewage line. Therefore, I am going to have to have John with Drake Plumbing give me a bid to reroute the sewage line completely. read more

I set a appointment over two weeks out witch was fine but the day of the appointment NO SHOW, NO CALL. I called to see what was up only to be told I was 5 more days out WOW... I tried to get the lady on the phone to explain to me how that could be. I was at disbelief only for her to tell me she wasn't going to argue with me i could take it or leave it so i left it and called another company. Would not recommend. The people she called from the number on the water heater said they would charge her $250.00 just to come out! I called Drake Mechanical and they came right out for half of that! On a Sunday the plumber came out and got her taken care of. It was such a relief to know that my daughter and her young kids had hot water. I called Drake Mechanical to assess the smell of natural gas at the fireplace valve when the pilot is turned off. The 2 men sent were very nice, assessed the issue and tightened the Dante valve, then tested to be sure that there were no more leaks. No parts were needed. They were at the property not more than 45 minutes. Imagine my surprise when I received a bill for $300. I spoke with the service manager and was rudely blown off. I had been using Drake for a number of years and during the last couple of years my furnace was periodically failing to light. Last year when one of their techs came to look at it he said that the electrical board was not telling him what the error codes were and didn't seem to be too alarmed. He cleaned it and it mostly worked fine for the rest of the season. At the end of December the furnace was still acting up and I wanted them to look at it again because the holidays were a week away. The same tech came and looked at it and said "the red light on the panel isn't on when it should be" and looked at other stuff and decided it was a $600 part that was the most likely cause - not the panel - and installed it. He got it to run and I thought it was fixed. Within 5 days the whole thing completely stopped working. I called for emergency help on a Saturday and was told they had no one available. So I called someone else. They tool a look, saw the same issue with the panel light, pulled the board off and found a big scorch mark. When I finally got a hold of someone at Drake I told them I wanted my money back from the repair they made. They said that because they couldn't come look at the furnace (before I had it replaced) that they couldn't verify anything. It worked for a few days after they left, so they were not responsible. If their tech saw the problem with the panel and then decided to replace something else, and it did end up being the panel, how is that not poor service???? They are supposed to be experts but can't put 2 and 2 together? Or admit when they did a bad job. Oh and I called to complain the day before my new system was supposed to be installed. 1- no one told me that I should have them come look at it to verify what I said 2 - they told me the owner would call me back but I had to wait two weeks and call them again. Her response: "Oh I guess you didn't get my message" right, like my cell phone doesn't have a call log showing me you never called. read more

Tech that came out for our quote was nice and capable but charged us $39 (none of the other companies I got a quote from charged us anything for a quote). Quote received was literally 4x my other two quotes ! I understand some variance, but seriously 4 times the others AND i had to pay $39 for a visit when all else are free???? Inexcusable. I even tried to call to inquire as to why they are 4x the other guys to see if maybe they saw something important that the others missed... but am being ignored by the service manager. Bottom line- you MUST Get multiple quotes if you are considering these guys and prepare to pay for a quote that is free from everyone else. read more

Drake came out to replace a hosebib. They put in cheap bib that split after 2 years. Yes I did cover it during the winter. Cost $320. Sad to say but I had to hire someone "out of country" to get me a top notch bib for 40 dollars. Labor 35 per hour job $120. That is a fair price, I dont eve make 35 per hour total cost $120. read more

Wow. I can't believe the other reviews. We have a boiler system and would not use any other business. Drake completely rebuilt our boiler system using cooper pipes instead of PVC and the system has run perfectly. We did have a pinpoint leak in our hot water tank and when I called Drake they were here in 30 min or less. The part was just slightly out of warranty and they were kind enough to give us a discount on the labor. Everyone we have talked to there or had come to the house has always been kind and considerate. The cost of service has always been reasonable. read more

On Friday, March 8th, I phoned at 5:00 pm for an emergency call regarding a large water leak from the hose bib and a failed water gate valve from the main water line to my basement. Immediately, the technician arrived to take care of the situation. Mike Kitson fixed the hose bib, drilled into the exterior masonry work for needed stability and repaired the back valve. We had Drake come out to fix a gas fireplace that wasn't working. They said they fixed the problem and left and approximately four hours later I left to go to the store and came back to smell a gas leak. I called them and told them there was a problem and it took over two hours for the on-call person to call me back, at no point did they ever tell me to ventilate my house or turn off the gas or how to turn off the gas. I figured that out on my own, after my one-year-old daughter was exposed to a gas leak for over four hours. They came and said they repaired the gas leak the next morning, about an hour later I could still smell gas I called them and complained and was told a manager would call me this was on a Saturday. Nobody called. The following Thursday my husband called them and again they said a repairman out for the third time. The fireplace was not fixed our gas was turned off again and the repairman stated they would call the next day with a solution. No one called us back is been four days. I have called them several times and requested a refund I am told someone will call me back and no one returns my calls. I cannot believe that they cannot take a gas leak that they caused seriously, they will not refund our money or return our calls. I want a refund so I can get my fireplace fixed and I want to know what laws if any were broken by causing a gas leak and not fixing it this seems incredibly dangerous and it doesn't seem like anybody cares. read more

I woke up Sunday morning to a cold house. After some quick self-trouble shooting I determined the high limit switch in my furnace went bad. Seeing as how my wife and children were freezing I decided to call anyone to see if I could get it fixed rather than wait to Monday. My friend recommended Drake so I figured why not. After talking to a grumpy tech he told me it would be $150 just for him to show up. But I was in a pinch so I agreed. After he showed up it took him 10 minutes to determine it was in fact the switch as I knew and then added $50 for labor. At that time he told me that just to get the parts warehouse open would cost an additional $100--not for the part. Just to get it open. At that point I was already spending deep cash so I declined and said my family would suffer in a cold house. So there goes some Christmas shopping money. I get that it's spendy on a Sunday, but why not tell me that it was going to cost so much just to get the warehouse open before arriving? Here's where I almost lost it: When I called Monday to try and get the part and problem fixed, I mentioned to the clerk that I was not happy about the extremely steep cost for them to just to show up on Sunday. His response was "that's what you get when you call on a Sunday brotha". Now I am a civil person and I am loyal to a fault--I will spend more money on a business in the long run if you treat me right in the beginning. So long story short, Drake Mechanical was willing to punch me below the belt for $350+ for getting my business once and never again. FYI I was able to get the part from YMC Inc for $35 and they would only charge $35 for house calls. read more

We recently had them come out to fix our water issues, made the appointment they showed up two hours late looked at our problems and had no idea what they were doing they made some calls and said they would have to order a special switch told us it would take a couple of days to get it so time went by our problem got worse I called twice after two weeks went by asked about our ordered part not one person in there office knew what I was talking about said they would get back to me by the end of the day that didn't happen . Realized there office staff and management was incompetent and not true to there word! Worst service ever! Had a furnace/AC unit installed that was so shoddily installed they even cut a hole into our house so we could change filters. Yep, nice gaping hole in main hallway. Have had to have maintenance done non-stop since neither unit has ever worked properly. Just had ANOTHER service tech over since air conditioner not working properly. After hearing how busy and tired he was he complained about the poor installation done on our unit. When we discussed refilling the refrigerant he mentioned that he was out and it would cost me $200 for him to go to the warehouse and get more. How is it my fault that he ran out and why should I pay? Needless to say $93 later for a weekend service call nothing fixed. Sitting in 105 degree heat with no air conditioning from a 6 year old unit. Did I mention that we had them out 3 years ago to refill refrigerant and were told that the unit had a faulty part, they would order it and contact us immediately.Yep still waiting for that call.
