Sitting on my fingers, figuratively speaking, for months before posting these comment but seeing Sam M's this morning about his experience with this HVAC company, I think he used the word scam, I feel the need to say we had a similar experience last year. Here is our story. I won't go as far as saying it is a scam. I will say it was a disappointing experience that caused us to lose faith in Ultimate, although to that point they had been our contracted service company for twice a year maintenance inspections. During one of their routine check up visits last year, the technician told my husband that there were serious things wrong and we needed a new unit. He said that a sales guy would be in touch with us to follow up to make selection for a new unit. We were astounded because the unit was less than 10 years old, we have 3 zone heating and cooling in a custom built home home, we are meticulous about maintenance. We heard from the sales guy a day or two later, he came to our home and met with my husband and I listened to the discussion while working on other things. The sales guy was very nice but this is not our first rodeo, as the saying goes, given this is our fourth custom home where HVAC units were installed to serve multiple zones so my husband had a number of good questions and the answers were vague. We had no reason to distrust Ultimate at that point, but with an almost $25K estimate to install a new unit, we needed a second opinion by a qualified HVAC business. So we called another company we used during an emergency after a water leak that required the restoration company to have the HVAC unit to be removed and replaced. We used that company then because Ultimate couldn't fit us in to their schedule. That other HVAC company did a great job during the emergency so we asked them to come look at our unit. They did and issued a clean bill of health. We are loyal customer types and would have stayed with Ultimate forever in the service contract we renewed with them every year for twice yearly check ups on our HVAC. But after that experience, we switched our annual contract over to this other company. I'm going to give them credit for the years they did the the two seasonal checkups years on our HVC. So I'll post 2 stars with that credit in mind. But I don't think Sam M's 1 star is wrong. read more

Today was the second time I have used Ultimate Heat and Air. The first time was for a check up on my HVAC system. I was very pleased with the technicians and that they found that everything was OK. Because of that visit, I signed up for their monthly membership. I called to have the plumbing side of my membership done today was a very pleased when Bryce arrived and on time. He is very knowledgeable about plumbing. I needed a couple of new parts and he installed them quickly and neatly. I highly recommend this company from their front office to the servicemen. read more

Called on a Saturday when the air conditioning went out and had the condenser replaced. Unfortunately still had problems two days later so called again. This second guy found the interior of the device filthy and said first guy had missed it. Three days later, still having problems. Called to complain and told manager would call me back. No manager ever called even after follow-up call. Going back to right now heating and cooling. read more

This company will try to scam you. Our AC system stopped working. I looked up several companies and after reading their reviews, scheduled Ultimate to come out. The tech (Stephen) was at our home for no less than two hours and finally gave us a long written list of items that potentially needed to be fixed, but with no definitive diagnosis. He estimated the cost to repair at $9000. He called me after the appointment and we talked for approximately 20 minutes and I tried to get him to tell me what was actually wrong with the system, but he couldn't. Instead, he told me that he would have to try a bunch of things to come up with any sort of diagnosis. Based on the high estimate and the tech's inability to actually diagnose any definitive problems, we sought a second opinion from Western Heating and Air. The Western tech was at my house for five minutes and he had the system running. He told me that one $300 part needed to be replaced and there were no other issues with the system after he performed a thorough inspection. Whatever you do, if you use Ultimate, always get a second opinion as their techs are clueless, and they will try to rob you blind. read more

Our experience with this company is very similar to others who have posted on Yelp. For the past several years, we have utilized Ultimate for semiannual servicing of our home heating and air conditioning system and a few repairs along the way. Our house was built in 2016, and we purchased it in approximately 2020, so the system is approximately 9 years old. Ultimate installed the system when the house was built. The only occupants of the house are my wife and I, we use the HVAC system gently, and it has always been properly maintained. I first felt uneasy with Ultimate when they had to replace the blower motor in the furnace (original motor), and then one year later, they said it was failing again, but it was out of warranty by one month. They wanted to charge another $1,000 to replace this motor. I pushed back, and they agreed to go back to the vendor of the motor and insist on a replacement. Eventually, they replaced it with a new part, but I had to pay for the installation labor. They returned to the house this fall for our semi-annual service, and they told me that some of the large components in the furnace were failing and needed to be replaced at the approximate cost of $10,000. Initially, they stated that the parts were not under warranty because the warranty only extends to the original homeowner. Again, I pushed back, and they eventually said that they would provide the parts at no cost, but the installation price (labor) would be $3,000. They also recommended that I replace the entire system as, in their opinion, these systems are only designed to last for 10 years. They sent a sales representative to the house several days later, who provided a variety of replacement options ranging from $16,000 to $24,000. As a point of reference, Ultimate recently convinced 2 of my neighbors to replace their entire systems, and their houses are newer than ours. I did some research and found an independent HVAC service company that is used by one of my neighbors. They came to the house and did a complete system inspection. They stated that the HVAC system was in good working order and showing normal signs of wear. They inspected the parts that Ultimate claimed were failing and stated that the system should last for a long period of time. They also did some research and informed me that the parts were under warranty through 2035, which is completely the opposite of what Ultimate told us. Had an AC unit put in about a year ago. Called for the yearly maintenance. They want you to become a member with a monthly charge. Maintenance for the monthly membership is $300 or you can pay for the maintenance without a monthly membership and it is over $400. Not sure why they want to do a monthly charge. What are they gaining besides access to your credit card for monthly charges? It's too bad every business seems to want to rope you into a monthly charge these days. read more

The reason most HVAC companies in Idaho engage in shady practices is because the Idaho board of occupational licenses is a total farce who do nothing. Fear is the most powerful tool to control people. Tell people car parts are in urgent need of replacement or tell people they need to have some medical procedure or that their furnace is falling apart. Very rarely we slow down to think twice or seek second opinions. This particular company will use fear as a sale tactic. I contacted them due to heating not starting. The tech proceeded to completely take the whole furnace apart and went on a fishing expedition "finding issues" in every part. Ask yourself: is it necessary for one specific issue to take the whole furnace apart? Unsurprisingly he came up with a bunch of parts needing replacing but it was better to get a new furnace. Ask yourself: what's the point of someone showing you "issues" when you can't tell the difference between what's normal or not since you don't have the training?, therefore it's just a fear tactic. The tech proceeded to shake the heat exchange tubes deliberately perhaps in the hopes they would break so to justify replacement. He stated they were "lose" and thank god the furnace stopped due to dangers with carbon monoxide. He also indicated I would save up to 25 percent in utilities by replacing the furnace, but how does he know that and based on what evidence? After the whole show, he was insisting that a rep would come same day to quote a new furnace. He was surprised to find out that I would get other opinions. He indicated that another company "would throw us under the bus" and that says it all. In short, I got my furnace fixed by another company, Didn't need a new one, didn't have to replace a bunch of parts, the other company didn't have to take the whole thing apart seeking issues and focused specifically on the training they had to fix a particular job. I spent less than what many people would fall on ultimate heating trap in replacing furnaces. The final insult was to find out ultimate heating left unscrewed parts and loose wires. I have been calling Ultimate since Sunday and was finally able to reach someone this morning. Bailey answered and was great to work with, she explained the process and was able to get a technician out the same day. BRANDON is the MVP here for his knowledge and expertise and total respect for the job. Give this man a raise! My issue was that a piece of my ducting around a corner collapsed (very rare) and was causing minimal air to pass through my return duct. I am waiting for a quote for the repair and warranty decision as I feel as that it should be covered since Ultimate performed the install on the new home a little over 2 years ago. Usually all these tract homes are built almost the same way and for something like this to happen so soon is interesting. I give my rating 5 stars because of the people that Ultimate has working for them, Bailey who was great to talk to over the phone with scheduling and Brandon who was the best HVAC technician I've ever met. I will adjust and update the review pending the cost of the repair. ***UPDATE Ultimate warrantied the parts from the AC repair so all we were charged was labor. Considering the diligent work from Brandon to have the request in, approval communicated, and the trust he established from the beginning, I thought the cost of the labor was very fair. My folks spent about 10,000$ and their unit is not working. Their house doesn't cool off and my mom continually gets error notifications about her unit. The heat this summer has been sweltering and my folks are elderly. The service staff hasn't been able to "fix" it and have now stopped responding to her messages. The last thing said was that it's because it's hot outside and her house is old. Her previous unit that was over 20 years old worked better. Today her thermostat is set to 68 and it's 80 in the house. We are all incredibly disappointed and honestly disgusted at the product from this company. Our a/c went out right in the middle of the summer. We called ultimate heating and air they came out the same day to do an assessment went over what was going on we're very honest and did not try to over price or sell more than was needed. The bud they gave us was thousands cheaper than another company. Ultimate was able to do more than the other company was offering. Three months ago we had Ultimate Heating and Air replace our old heat pump with a new Bryant/Carrier unit. Since then the unit is getting louder and louder to the point that it now sounds like a power substation. The people at Ultimate assure us the unit is working fine and that it is normal to sound this obnoxious. Our nineteen year old Carrier never woke us up at night with the buzzing or caused the neighbors to check to see if something was wrong. Today a service rep hung up on my wife when she was expressing her concern and frustration. His attitude was "That's how it works, deal with it." The unit is now so loud that it is waking us up at night. I cannot in good faith recommend this product. read more

I am happy to entrust our HVAC system to Ultimate. Having relocated from NYC and apartment living, we knew there was no super to count on for heating and cooling issues. When I spoke to Brenda the first time, she was the consummate customer service professional. She was very friendly, patiently took her time to answer my questions and explain things, and followed up our phone conversations with emails. She was able to schedule a service visit from Chris the same week if I recall correctly. Chris was very punctual during both service visits - to troubleshoot, and then to repair. He was friendly, efficient, very knowledgeable, and thorough with his work. I had no qualms signing up for an annual package and am relieved to say we can count on Ultimate for as long as we need an HVAC to cool off in the summer and heat up in the winter. Last week, Ultimate heating and air installed a humidifier for $5000.00. They also added a new thermostat. The thermostat is reading three degrees below the set temperature. It's a Saturday night and although they advertise 24 hour service, I am unable to get ahold of anyone until Monday. I'm deeply disappointed in the product and the service. I could never recommend this company to anyone. This company is not only expensive, but uses extremely poor products and gives unreliable service. read more

Last week, Ultimate heating of Boise, Idaho, heating replaced a humidifier at the cost of over $5000. Now my thermostat is reading 3 degrees below the set temperature, and the house is chilly. Of course, this is a Saturday night and although they advertise 24 hour service, I can't get ahold of anyone until Monday. I'm almost 80 years old and really need a constant temperature. I recommend you don't use this firm. They are extremely expensive and unreliable. I would never recommend them to anyone. read more

Just had my whole system plus a water heater replaced. Paul from Ultimate was the ONLY contractor rep to not only measure my home but found that someone in the past had bypassed the fuses in the AC shut off. He did all the things that Consumer Reports noted should be done in evaluating and making the right choice in size and type of furnace and central AC. On top of that, which already impressed me, he noticed and brought to our attention a water leak that would have caused a bigger and dangerous issue in the future with the weakening of the wood platform under the furnace and water heater. Right there, and that ultimate is a company rep for Bryant, they had my contract. Working with Paul, Joe and Stetson was wonderful. The whole crew was professional, detailed, friendly and answered all my questions. I am very happy! read more

Our furnace stopped working on a weekend and since Ultimate Heat & Air was the installation sticker for our unit I called them. They were out as asked on Monday but the technician found multiple problems and advised replacing the thermostat ($350), gas regulator ( $450) and a fan. The thermostat was less than a year old and sells for $150 at Home Depot. The gas regulator sells for $110 new on Amazon. After calling the manufacturer of the thermostat...Turns out the thermostat just needed to be reprogrammed and we were able to get it working again with their advice and expertise. The furnace is working fine now, no heating issues. Total overstep by this company to try and charge for unnecessary repairs. I contacted the owner who thanked me for helping to train the tech. Bottom line we paid $99 for bad diagnostics. Customer beware! read more

I needed an inspection for the sale of my home. They quoted me the price, I set up the appointment, they showed up on time and charged me the quoted price. He didn't try to upsell me. He did his job! Chris Torres came out to our house the day after we called about our faulty heating early November. We had received a first quote from another company of about $800. Chris was able to replace the part on the spot for less than 1/2 the original quote we received from the other company. Chris was professional, friendly, and trustworthy. On July 5, 2014 my furnace blower went out I was able to get a hold of Ultimate Heating and Air, a local contractor. They came out right away, which I was really happy because I had to work that day. Also I was going to be leaving town in a couple of days. Temperatures outside were over hundred degrees. He gave me a song and dance and I did not feel comfortable doing business with him. I knew better but I had him do the work anyway. My mistake. He charged me $622 for a blower motor and mount. When I returned, I spoke to several other people and it should have been a $250 service call even for being on the weekend. I just hope other people have better luck with Ultimate Heating and Air. I feel ripped off, but it was my fault agreeing to have it fixed. Lesson learned. read more

They are very schedule oriented so we never have issues with them missing our install dates. When it comes to service afterward they are very prompt and can handle issues that come up right away. I got several bids to replace my 4 ton a/c unit. While there are many qualified companies in the Treasure Valley, there is only one Ultimate. Not only was the service outstanding, but the pricing was spot on and fair. That was the difference between Ultimate and the others - fair price and great service. On the day of the replacement, they discovered they missed putting a electronic board in their bid. Rather than make excuses and charge me extra, they said that was their fault and they covered the cost. Not too many companies these days stand behind their bids and their work. Ultimate does. Ultimate Heating and Air are really great to work with. Robert was very thorough and he let me watch and ask questions. The only thing I didn't appreciate is that he changed some of our temperature settings without asking. I'm sure he was trying to perhaps save us some money but we have exotic birds and try to keep a constant temp so we had to go back in and reprogram the settings. We had Chris out to our home to see if he could fix our a/c. He explained the risk of investing in an older a/c, but because that's what we wanted, he fixed it and he did a great job. He was professional, polite and personable. The price was a little more than I hoped for but he had to fill the system with refrigerant and that's not cheap. I don't hesitate to recommend these guys.
