I have been using this cleaner and alterations place for several years and today's was for the last time. The alterations woman overcharges and the cleaners doesn't listen to special instructions. I picked up two pairs of pants today: one needed a button sewn back on and the other needed about a 2 inch stitch redone in the waist band. The button was only $2 yet somehow the little stitch was $10. I understand $10 isn't a lot in a general sense but for what it was, it should have been $5 max. If they had told me it was going to be $10, I would have just let it go because it wasn't that noticeable anyway. When I asked about why I was charged that much for such a tiny area, the girl said it was a minimum for pants. If that's the case, why was the button only $2? On another recent visit, I asked for the lapels on my blazer to be pressed a certain way because of the length of the blazer. They didn't listen and left me with a silly looking collar. I took it back to get re-pressed and was explicit about how I wanted it done. I'm also surprised I had to explain this at all because the lapels loosely fall in the general manner they should have been pressed. It came back the exact same way and I just had to iron it myself so I'd have it in time for a conference. read more

Overall, Drake is an excellent dry cleaner that I have used for years. They are locally owned, very well managed, and as honest as they come. The staff is very efficient and polite. They know their customers by name as well as their specific needs. They will always go the extra mile to help a customer. This includes removing impossible stains from your favorite shirt or tie or expediting your dry cleaning when you are in a bind. Their performance has been exceptional and consistent for many years. This includes finding and always returning valuables inadvertently left in pockets. When those rare problems have occurred, they were promptly and fairly addressed. I just picked up my 3/4 length leather coat that I'd left with Drake Cleaners to send out for cleaning. I've had this coat for 14 years, 13 of those living in Chicago. I wore it quite often during the winter unless it was really cold and I would get out my huge down coat. I never had the funds to prioritize cleaning a leather coat. Wherever Drake sends their leather did an amazing job. I'm actually in awe of how good and new this coat looks. I was actually on the verge of donating it. I'm so glad I didn't. I brought in a couple of thrift store finds for an event. Staff was great, so very helpful, even giving tips for getting old stains out of unwashable pieces. She was completely honest about what i could expect and offered suggestions on tailoring around set in spots. Left one dress to be cleaned. My $8 gown now looks like a million bucks. Too much boogie woogie at the last wedding I attended led to a tear in the crotch of my favorite trousers. You know, the modern flat-front kind that are all the rage these days. Well, as it turns out, I needed them for my halloween costume tonight. The kind lady at Drake Cleaners answered my call this morning and said that, although she had a very busy day, if I could get over there in a flash she could fit me in to fix my crotch. I have never had a fondness of a dry cleaner's. I picked Drake's on a lark for convenience, and was more than impressed with the service on many factors. First, its product is superb. I can tell they do an excellent job with careful handling of my clothes - everything is ship-shape and pressed. Second, they offer pick-up and drop-off service. Finally, Drake's staff is entirely professional. From the younger clerks working the counter to everyone inside, the staff is always cheerful and helpful. That's unusual compared to the service I've received at competing yet similar businesses. Here's what truly sealed the deal and kept me coming back as a returning customer. They make me feel like a regular. They mailed me a welcome letter with "Drake's Dollars" after my first visit and send notices in the mail about additions to their services, schedule and other such things. They aren't the cheapest cleaner's in town, however their gold-star customer service, quality of product, and attention to detail gives you 100 reasons to pick Drake's. read more

Maybe a one-star is too low of a rating but at this time I'm fairly disappointed in the way that Drake conducted their last interaction with me. We've been using Drake cleaners for for both cleaning and alterations for several months and up to this point their service has been five star. This past week I called on Wednesday to have to jeans patched. I told the gentleman on the phone that I was under a bit of a time constraint and he said it would be $3-5 per patch and that they could have it done the next day. They did not have it done the next day nor was the price correct. They charged me twice what they quoted ($20) when they were ready 4 days late. $20 for two sets of pants fixed is not the problem. The fact that they disregarded their initial quote and delivery is unacceptable. When I informed them they did not care or even apologize for the problem. I also find it unacceptable that I had to call them on multiple occasions to remind them to fix the pants. Again normally my experiences at Drake cleaners is positive, but unfortunately they severely dropped the ball this time. read more

I stopped by today to see if my mid-length black leather jacket with a jacked-up zipper and a few other imperfections was worth saving. Drake Cleaners called back with an estimate within a couple of hours explaining that the leather would be sent out and an explanation of what was needed. I would expect this from any local cleaner that's been around for awhile. BUT THEN I asked Mitch (I think that was the name?) if he honestly thought it was worth the $150 minimum to fix it (zipper + all of the imperfections that I hadn't really noticed). He joked that as much as he'd like to have my money, it really probably was not worth it considering the cost of a new leather jacket nowadays (unless the jacket had sentimental value, which it does not). NOW THAT is some good honest business dealings. I do believe I will travel the extra couple blocks from my old dry cleaners (+ alterations) over to Drake now because they are good people. :) read more

I bought a very expensive blazer and had them do the alterations. Needless to say they TOTALLY screwed it up. Only a T-Rex would be happy with how short the sleeves were cut. In fact, they were so short they could not be repaired. Without a blink they bought me a new jacket! Of course after taking ownership of the mistake I let them alter my new blazer and it was PERFECT this time. It's nice to find a company that owns their mistakes and does whatever they can do to make those mistakes right. I'm not sure I'd risk any other alterations to anyone else! It just so happens they also do a fantastic job dry cleaning as well. read more

The big difference here is that the owner Mitch is on site. He cares. The front desk service is solid. Conscientious. Good quality on the cleaning. Been going there for 4 years and, to date, have never had any issue (lost or damaged items, etc). We have used their tailor services a few times and always been pleased (including refitting an old tux to give it a trimmer, modern fit. Bottom line, they've earned my love (enough to warrant a review - which I rarely write!). read more

I took a pair of jeans to them to get taken in at the waist and instead of doing it properly they just pinched and sewed exactly how a kid would have done it. As a dry cleaner they are decent. I needed a few items washed and pressed. I chose this business due to the decent reviews. I dropped it off, they were very polite and all seemed well. I came back to pick it up 2 days later and was slapped with a forty dollar bill. The guy had put down my wash as a dry clean after I had explicitly told him not to. Probably a dishonest business strategy judging by the previous comment below saying the same thing. I sent my family member to pick it up and unfortunately I did not realize what happened until it was too late. Don't be fooled by the "no upfront payment" gimmick. It is likely so they can overcharge after they already have your clothes. Needless to say, I won't be back. Petty swindles like this have no place in a respectable business. read more

I was in Memphis for a wedding and when I pulled my dress out the morning of it was a wrinkled mess...it didn't do so well on the long drive. I was in full on panic mode. It was past 8a.m. and rehearsal was in an hour and a half. I started looking for a place to get it pressed. The ladies here were so helpful when I called and promised it would be ready several hours before the wedding. I dropped it off and headed to rehearsal. I was telling another bridesmaid about my dress and she ran out to check hers. It was a mess too. She left after rehearsal to drop her dress off and they worked hers in too! I picked the dresses up right after my hair appointment and both were ready and perfect! These ladies were real life savers! read more

It seems like the majority of my jackets require special care. Naturally, I found myself needing to find a place that could take care of a suede jacket that I had dropped food on since, come lunchtime, I tear through a sandwich like a bull in a china shop. They were able to remove the spot from the suede, and the jacket -- which cost an arm and leg -- looks like new. I was thrilled. This is by far the best Cleaners in Memphis. I have never been one to have stuff dry-cleaned. But every once in a while I will wear my dry clean only dress and when I took it to another location I found in town I was extremely put off by the rude staff. Drake cleaners is conveniently located in Memphis, the staff who work there are kind and personable and they are willing to go above and beyond to help you. I have taken my winter coat and a few dresses there which were done wonderfully, so I thought they might be able to fix a leather purse I had ripped. When I spoke with the staff about my purse she said she could not fix it since they didn't have the machine, but immediately referred me to someone who could. So very helpful. Also after my second visit there they sent me a thank you for using their services along with a certificate towards future services and the owners personal cell number. I had two shirts that I designed which needed the skill of a much more experienced hand. Sandy jumped at the opportunity to work with me, listening to what I wanted the end product to look like and even offered some constructive advice on how I could better achieve the effect that I was going for. She was flexible with me along the way when I needed to make a couple of changes for incorrect measurements that I had sent her and was endlessly positive about my outfits that I had designed. It was extremely helpful to have someone who could follow my vision and was skilled enough to execute it. Very disappointed and shocked that they would tell me yes then no. Lucky I found someone else to do the job and it exceeded my expectations. Super fast, friendly, organized, and extremely amenable!!! I live in an older house in Midtown, and the dryer was on it's last legs. After having to put a load through eight times on tumble to take care of the last load. My landlord is planning to replace it, but advised that I go to Drake's at his expense for the meantime. I walked in around 5:30 this afternoon and I was out, with my dry cleaning, laundry by the pound, and alterations dropped off, by 5:45. Even though the owner told me he wasn't equipped to do laundry by the pound on a delicate cycle, once I told him about my situation he said he would take care of it and help me out. I like, also, that I didn't have to pay upfront. I feel like this place really cared about customer service and doing a great job with the product. I usually wear the same jacket for well over 5-6 years without issues. My wife bought me a pretty expensive jacket one month ago, took it to them, and they screwed up the zippers.
