There was a smell emanating from our guest bath. Googling the cause of the smell put me in panic mode. I called Draintech to inquire about a possible sewer leak. Kaelin answered the phone. (on a Sunday) I was expecting to get the answering machine. I described the problem and he calmly walked me through the possible causes. He gave me step-by-step instructions on what might be causing the smell. I wasn't confident that I could fix it myself, so I booked the scheduled visit that following Wednesday anyway. But after hanging up, I tried his instructions. And sure enough it fixed the problem. Long story short, if you have a spare bath that is unused. Not running the flush or shower can cause a ?vacuum? where the sewer smell could escape... (something like that, but don't quote me). I haven't written a review here in years, but wanted to let everyone know that Kaelin (Draintech) is a good and honest business. He could have kept our appointment and I would have happily paid for his visit. But instead gave me the instructions to fix it myself. That's amazing. We were having serious drainage clogging issues. The previous plumbers that came out helped to get things flowing, however, they couldn't figure out the root cause, so I wanted a second opinion. Enter Kaelin and his camera snake. He was able to show me that some roots from out tree had grown into the main drain, causing the backup. He used a snake with a spinning chain attachment to chop up all the roots and clear the pipe. He flushed a root killing foam through the drain to prevent the problem from coming back and offered to refer us to someone who specializes in drain pipe replacement. A segment of my kitchen sink pipe burst unexpectedly, wetting the entire bottom of our island cabinetry. I immediately searched for a plumber online. Kaelin kindly responded late at night and even suggested a free solution, where I could do the rough-in myself. I decided to have him make the visit though, as I wanted expert eyes on the piping. Because this was not the first piping incident, said burst pipe had a propensity to loosen and open. Also, I had previously contracted other plumbers (through my home warranty company), who had not properly diagnosed and treated the issue at hand. Kaelin arrived the day after on a weekend and suggested an overarching solution, of replacing all of the inferior piping with Ferguson brand pipes. I found his suggestion apt and I followed through, and he quickly and skillfully replaced the affected piping. The piping is now sturdier than ever and the pipe mating arrangements omit previously found compromising extreme angles. In short, I'm no longer fearful of increased water pressure in the drains or grinding certain foods in the garbage disposal, bursting the pipes. Moreover, I'm glad Draintech fixed the root problem, versus applying a band-aid solution. I highly recommend Draintech - great service and awesome people! read more

Kaelin did some work for us, last year. We had a serious clog and water backing up. Our cleanout was totally buried by some ginormous metal planters due to shifting once they were filled. Kaelin was able to get to the cleanout and worked super hard to get things flowing again with a jet cleaner. He had to get roots out of the pipes, and he did a stellar job. He also used his camera to find the city's cleanout which had been buried by years of fill dirt. This year, we decided to install a trench drain in our driveway to stave off flooding. There was water backed up in my tub, and apparently my house doesn't have a drain cleanout. The first company hired attempted to snake the system using the roof for access but couldn't resolve the issue. I was quoted over $3K to install a cleanout in order to resolve the issue. Instead of proceeding with the quote mentioned above, I reached out to Draintech. The owner responded promptly, arrived on time for the scheduled appointment, accessed the system through the roof, conducted a camera inspection, used couple of machines to unclog/clean the drain, and got rid of the root of the problem (roots in the mainline).
