We came in with a group of five last night and had an absolute blast at Dragon Gate! To be completely honest, we came in a bit demanding right off the bat--we asked for the best seat in the house and ended up pushing a few tables together to catch that unbelievable view right on the water. Even though we probably came off a little entitled at first, the staff handled us with complete grace and made sure we were totally taken care of the entire night. As for the food, every single dish was a hit. We ordered a little bit of everything: The dumplings were packed with flavor, and both the Hot & Sour and Wonton soups were fantastic warm-ups. Kebabs: We tried the chicken, beef, and lamb kebabs--each was seasoned to perfection and cooked tender. By the end of the evening, the staff felt like family. Before we left, they even gave us a tour of their private VIP karaoke room! It's fully soundproofed, decked out with tricked-out lighting, and still features those great waterfront views--definitely planning to rent that out for our next big celebration. From the food to the atmosphere to the amazing service, Dragon Gate delivered on all fronts. We'll 100% be back! read more

Dragon Gate Oakland - Bars Near Me - Oakland, California

Dragon Gate is such a fun hidden gem in Jack London Square! The food is consistently good, the drinks are great, and the waterfront location gives you an awesome view of the Oakland waterfront. It's one of those places that works just as well for dinner and drinks as it does for a full date night. Some of my favorites are the Idiot Noodles (yes, Idiot Noodles!), Garlic Noodles, Salt and Pepper Shrimp, Pig Ears, and Hot and Sour soup. We've been more than once, and the food has always been good. Definitely come hungry because there are way too many things on the menu worth sharing! One of the coolest things about Dragon Gate is that they also have private karaoke rooms with WATER VIEWS!! Dinner, drinks, karaoke, and a view all in one place? Say less. The location also makes it such a great date-night spot. After dinner, you can walk around Jack London Square and enjoy the waterfront, or keep the night going at Dave & Buster's nearby for some drinks and games. If you're coming from San Francisco, you can even take the ferry over and walk to the restaurant from the Jack London Square ferry terminal, which makes the whole night feel like a little mini adventure without having to drive. Good food, strong drinks, waterfront views, private karaoke, and plenty to do within walking distance afterward. Definitely recommend Dragon Gate for a fun date night in Oakland! read more

This is a very beautiful restaurant. I was blown away by the lighting and decor. Service was nice. The host even gave us a tour of the whole place. We sat at the bar and food and drinks came out quick. The kebobs were my favorite. The lamb skewers were top notch! I definitely will be back! read more

Was my first time coming here and had a blast! The establishment is extremely spacious and well-decorated. All of the staff members are super chill, and service was good. This was honestly the best karaoke room I've been to in the Bay Area. I like the privacy and the views by the water can't be beat! The server did forget an item that we ordered but it all got sorted out. I'll definitely be back again to book the karaoke room. The bar area looked cool to hang out as well too. read more

It's been a long time since I came to Oakland. I had seen this place before, but never had the chance to go inside. After walking in, I immediately noticed how tight the security was. Later, I found out they also offer alcohol service and transform into a bar and nightclub at night. After a certain hour, everyone entering has to show ID and go through a belongings check. However, I was only there for dinner today. I was seated in a different section where there were quite a few people dining, along with a large stage showing an NBA game. From what I briefly noticed, besides the dining area, they also have three to four private rooms for customers waiting to sing karaoke. The overall environment was clean and well maintained. Even though the food is Chinese cuisine, it seemed like a lot of Western customers also really enjoy the food and atmosphere here. I personally ordered their wonton soup, dumplings, and a baked napa cabbage with cream sauce. Every dish was very well executed, and I was surprised that the prices were not expensive at all. Overall, I would give this place a five star rating and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Asian food along with a Western style nightlife atmosphere. The only downside is that the location is in Jack London Square, where parking can be extremely difficult to find. However, with the improvements made in recent years, the safety and cleanliness of the surrounding area have gotten much better. read more

I've been meaning to stop by this spot for a minute. First off the waterside location is beautiful. It can be a bit pricey but I was happy with everything I got. I had the appetizer chicken and edamame with Szechuan. The Szechuan was very spicy and I dipped my chicken in it. The cocktails were also sweet and strong. The sparkling dragon was a good strong pour. read more

I visited Dragon Gate for a friend's party with my boyfriend. While the view was beautiful, unfortunately our overall dining experience was disappointing. Finding parking was also very difficult, which made the experience frustrating before we even entered the restaurant. Upon entering, security immediately took my unopened energy drink without giving me the opportunity to dispose of it myself. A brief explanation or the chance to throw it away would have been appreciated. The service was extremely slow. It took a considerable amount of time for our waitress, Mo Mo, to take our order, and she did not appear welcoming or attentive. After placing our order, our drinks were the last items to arrive, and we had to request them three separate times before they were finally brought to our table. Additionally, our beverages were served in plastic cups even though we were dining inside the restaurant. When we asked why, we were told it was because of the different bartenders, which did not seem like a reasonable explanation. We spent approximately $92 on our meal, but the quality of the food did not justify the price. There are many other Chinese restaurants that offer better food, better service, and a much better overall value. The beautiful view was the only highlight of our visit. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I do not plan to return and cannot recommend Dragon Gate to others. read more

They were pretty busy when we went so it was really hard to get service :( understandable but also keep that in mind if you go on a time crunch. We had to keep flagging for utensils/water and plates- even after our appetizers were delivered. We got cucumber appetizer, variety of kabobs/skewers and garlic noods. I will say I did enjoy my kabobs but no explanation of which were which- just a drop and run honestly. The garlic noodles were brought out but then taken away because they forgot the Parmesan seasoning but I think they just had the wrong order/table as they brought another one out in like 5 or more mins. All in all- it's a cute place with a lot of potential. They have karaoke rooms and a full bar. read more

Came in on a Sunday it was quiet and empty Food selection: fried rice green beans fried pork chops honey walnut shrimp the rice had a weird kind of taste. The pork chops tasted like the cheap part of the pork not the white meat. the green beans were dry no flavor. Didn't care for the food!! Ambience: inside old decore Chinese bar feel ; karaoke is offered It's nice because it sits on the water, but the interior could definitely use a makeover. Conclusion: I've seen videos so it seems to be fun during weekends at night for karaoke but for me it's not too much to return to! It just didn't do it for me read more

Wonderful service and ambiance! Food was ok! Garlic noodles, chicken wings enjoyable.

Being local to Jack London Square we were happy to see an Asian restaurant open on the waterfront. The restaurant is beautiful and so is its location out in the water. That's where the good things end... we went there tonight after the Valkyries game via the SF Ferry. We got there about 8:30 and ordered our food. Orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken beef with broccoli, steamed rice and some pork and shrimp dumplings along with a Diet Coke. Our food gets delivered to the table but there is no rice and still no soda. After about five minutes we were able to flag someone down to get the rest of our order which was the rice and the soda. The soda was a can of soda with no refills. There's a 50 foot bar across from our table and you serve canned soda??? Service was extremely slow since the staff was more concerned about the lack of music being played. At one point the music gets chosen and it is EXTREMELY loud and the staff runs over and turns it down. It was still so loud we could not even carry on a conversation. I have severe hearing loss so my participation in any conversation ended at that point. The food: the broccoli beef looked appetizing until tasting it. It was doused in tons of oyster sauce. So much so it was basically the only ingredient that one could taste. We sent it back and ordered beef with green beans. After we had already finish the rest of our food and about 20 minutes later the green beans came out. Just green beans. No beef. By this point we were ready to leave. 30 minutes later we finally get up to walk out since no one came to check on the table. We asked to see a manager on the way out but the no one would ever come... the staff took the green beans sans beef off the bill. Did I mention we were the only table in the restaurant when we arrived and another table was sat About 20 minutes after we arrived? To sum it up: beautiful restaurant and location, seriously the restaurant is gorgeous. Orange chicken and sweet and sour chicken were passable, the broccoli beef... yuck. The dumplings were mediocre at best. And the green beans sans beef was disgusting. It's disappointing that the food and service were horrible since we literally live down the street. Luckily we are close to Chinatown. There are far better and amazing places there. read more

Booked a karaoke room weeks in advance, told us not to worry about leaving a deposit. ***This review is about their lack of service.***Zero stars for that***Food is still good 4 stars*** After coming here the high school reunion and tasted some of their dishes, my wife and I came in for a early Sunday dinner around 4pm and the place was pretty empty with one table. We were seated right away and our server took the drink and food orders, after everything we ordered came we never saw the servers again. Not once did they come back and say how's everything or do you need anything or would you like another drink. Nothing!!! I would understand if they were pack and busy!!! But like I said place was pretty empty. Now for the food we order several different dishes and they were all pretty good. Butter Garlic Noodles with Mushroom, which they forgot the mushroom was good with flavor. After I raised the issue that there was no mushroom, they didn't charge for the entire dish. That was pretty nice of them. Mongolian Beef was flavorful, but more onions than beef. Garlic Stir Fried String Beans was very good and perfectly made. Salt and Pepper Wings was good. Crunchy on the outside and moist on the meat. Shrimp, Pork & Green Chives Dumplings were just okay, nothing special about it. No chives taste to it which I love. read more

Great location by the waterfront at Jack London Square. The interior was dark, masculine with prominently dark wood with large-scaled seating booths. The bar area was a bit of a mismatch. Large windows to look out over the San Francisco Bay. The menu was sort of a mixed bag. Some dishes aesthetically displeasing like the garlic noodles and chicken wings were actually good and tasty. The tater tots and dumplings were a miss! In the beginning, the server was friendly and chatty. But once the order was placed and the food served, the server was very difficult to flag down. Catching any of the servers attention to ask for the bill at the end of the meal was taxing. read more

Unique restaurant with a chill vibe and amazing view of the water. We sat at the bar and the bartender, Aaron, was very quick, helpful, and precise! He recommended the Dragon Warrior which contains Absolut Wild Berry, Malibu, Hypnotic, cran and pineapple. We ordered two and finished them quickly. For food, we ordered the garlic butter noodles with shrimp added and also placed an order of the chicken hearts. The noodles were delicious, I didn't want to share because I was hangry. The chicken hearts had a fried battered coating over them and I was surprised with how many came in an order. The staff here were very friendly and hardworking. The place got busy over the next couple of hours and it seemed each server and bartenders were able to keep their cool while handling each one of the customers in a timely manner. Glad we got a chance to visit Dragon Gate. We will definitely be returning again soon. read more

Disappointing evening. Came here for a party, which I was really looking forward to. I used to frequent Kincaid's often when it was here and hadn't been back to this location since it became Dragon Gate. The views were great and loved the colorful decor but the food was overpriced and the service was non-existent. The food was tasty but the portions were extremely small for what they charged. Drinks were pricey too. But the worse part of our experience was the service. There was none! The server never checked on us. Our water was never filled and our plates were never cleared. I had to get up and remove most of our dirty plates myself and place them in the plastic tub on the cart nearby. One of my friends flagged down a worker and asked her if she could take some plates away and get some water. The water carafes they left us were empty for an hour! The noise level was terrible, though the dining room only had one other party. The kitchen is open and twice it smelled like the coo burnt something which filled the air in the dining area. Needless to say, I would not recommend this place to friends and will not be returning. read more

Finally, the long awaited dragon gate in Oakland, finally opened up. Ever since they replaced Kincaid's, this place has been sitting empty for several years. The same owners of lounge Chinatown decided to open up a karaoke bar by the water, offering a similar menu of Chinese cuisine. They offer a variety of rooms available for a karaoke with a minimum purchase of two hours. Some rooms are $88 and sit up to 15 people, some rooms fit up to 40 people with for a minimum of three hours. Their drinks are still as strong as I remember when they were originally located on Broadway a couple streets down. Especially the dragon warrior one. Very tasty but very strong. I will say their drinks are very expensive. A cocktail being almost $20 is lowkey highway robbery. I know the price of the location is sort of baked into the price of the cocktail, but I can't imagine paying this much going forward being sustainable. read more

The view is beautiful, peaceful, it has a prime location on the Jack London Pier, but the owner and host (I believe is the owner) doesn't have any experience with service dog laws in the U.S. so I would not recommend this place to anyone. The prices are exorbitant as well, a drink costs on average of $21 from their cocktail menu. The appetizer we got was greasy and weren't very flavorful nor reminiscent of a Chinese dish. We ended up going to a different restaurant for dinner because drinks alone ran up a bill of a $200 for 4. I'd recommend they take time to review the laws around customers and the regulations required to hold their license. read more

Two stars are for Mona -- she was the only one who demonstrated genuine professionalism and courtesy. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was defined by an interaction with a male server that felt unnecessarily confrontational. I was told not to sit at a table I preferred, and was explicitly informed I would not be served if I chose to sit there. It's unclear why a paying customer would be addressed in this manner. The tone and approach felt more like being challenged than welcomed, which is disappointing in a service setting. Hospitality should not feel conditional or intimidating. I hope management takes this seriously, as it leaves a lasting negative impression. Based on this experience, I would hesitate to return or recommend this place to others. read more

Oh, boy. I saw this place on social media first and I couldn't wait to find the right time to go. So...when my birthday came around, I thought it would be the perfect place to bring some friends for fun. Well, starting with the reservation process. I was able to book a room by calling, but I had to go down there in person to confirm the reservation by paying them. When I arrived, I was met by security sitting behind the counter, who asked me what I needed and then shouted for what I assume was the owner. Whoever she was, there was no customer service, it felt like I was imposing to give her my money, and I left feeling anything but excited for the following day. When we arrived the following day, we were sent to our room and told to order drinks from the bar. So, off I went and waited for at least 10 to even be acknowledged. The bartender seemed far more interested in the only other two people at the bar, he took his sweet time serving them, then came to me, took even longer, and stopped making my drinks to help others. Mind you, this is all cutting into the time I'm paying to have a room. Eventually, I got my subpar and expensive drinks served in plastic cups and headed back to my room, where I was met with...YOUTUBE FOR A KARAOKE SYSTEM?!!?! The food was okay, but no one ever checked in on us. What a disappointment all around. Certainly won't be returning. Definitely not worth the cost to be treated like that. Only giving the second star for the view. read more

Location, location, location! I doubt you can ever go wrong being situated on the waterfront. Stopped in Friday night without a reservation and was immediately fat in the bar area, plus. I have a suspicion that their main priority is to see the bar side rather than the main dining room area which has been slightly converted. Overall I think the decor is lovely. I like that the bar offered booth seating and smaller tables. I wish they could figure out their music volume, periodically you would be get a loud blast but the music selection was great, r&b all night. For drinks we started with an espresso martini and a lemon drop. Our first round was very good, however, I was disappointed with the second drinks as they ran out of glasses and service us plastic cups and my espresso martini looked more like a rum and coke and had a horrible flavor. This is a family style type of restaurant, and the portions are quite generous. We started with the spring rolls, they were decent but I believe they're more exciting options, popcorn chicken which was very yummy and finally Kung Fu rice with shrimp great flavor one of the highlight. Our server started off overly attentive and came back every 3 minutes trying to take our order and then at some point just disappeared for what seemed like 30 minutes and we had to flag down a food runner for our bill. This place has great potential but there's still some room to grow and perfect the experience. read more

Dragon gate moved to this waterfront location in October 2024. It's a beautiful location with nice interior decor and feel. Only thing was the music was on the louder side but it makes sense when the place doesn't have sound panels to drown out the loud conversations. There weren't many diners when we were there so food came out relatively quick. Service was good and efficient. The food was overall alright. It's more of the location and atmosphere you're paying for eating here vs the quality of Taiwanese food. It's not bad, but it's not something amazing either. We had fried pork chop, stewed pork belly, beef noodle soup, Taiwanese sausage and seasonal greens. Nothing particularly stood out among all these dishes. read more

Service on a Friday night wasn't slow like I expected based on other reviews. I went in a group of four and we were seated rather quickly. There were ample of open tables. The food was as expected except for the dumplings. Dragon wings were sweet and crispy, not too dry. The garlic noodles were of good proportion although there could be a couple more shrimps. The dumplings thoughhh were disappointing. The dough was thick and the sauce was not spicy. Server was kind to give us an extra bowl of chili, but it tastes like the laoganma peanut chili sauce, no spice no kick, just plain oil. I think we got the dragon cosmo cocktail, it wasn't good and tasted like medicine. All and all good experience with a beautiful pier side view. read more

I'm hoping that there will be improvement with this place. I love the ambiance of the place. It was decorated very nicely and being by the water definitely was a plus. We came for a late lunch so the place was pretty empty. We were seated at the bar side of the restaurant. There was a wide variety of items on the menu. We ordered a few items and were a little disappointed in that a couple of the dishes were on the saltier side. Service in itself could use some improvement. The wait staff didn't come around to see how we were doing very much and when we needed one there was no one around.
