I have been coming to Dragon Fort since 1987, much longer than most of the present staff there have even been alive. The old restaurant was a walk up, darker and much cozier place. The new restaurant is wide open and without much character. It's a tradition that my daughter and I eat lunch there after some Christmas shopping, we've been doing that for about 8 years. I have always loved the food, the portions and the prices. In days gone by the staff were welcoming, happy and helpful as well as familiar. I come here for lunches with work crew, dinners with family, the food is awesome and to this day and the pricing is still fair for the portion you get. Today was different. Today we were seated agonist immediately then forgotten for 15 minutes. After ordering we then waited an additional 30 minutes only to get my dish but not my daughters. I was almost half way done when hers showed up, incorrect. I was almost done when hers finally came back, with no apology, no explanation, nothing. No one came back to ask how our meal was, and when we finished I had to ask someone for the bill, as no one came to see to us. I have never I'm my 30+ years of patronizing this restaurant had such abysmal service from staff so completely devoid of customer awareness. The food was still delicious, the value is still there, but the zombies waiting tables are like nothing I have ever experienced. We were so immensely disappointed in the experience, we may have to change our Christmas tradition. To the owners, you should take this seriously, your wait staff are the face and voice of your establishment, they can affect change adversely or proactively. We were seated and given water to drink. Then we sat for 25 minutes with no one coming around to take our order, we got up to leave and asked why, we were told the cooks were on break. Jisy happened to be in Abbotsford and came here for the first time. Took them a little bit to acknowledge at the door but that was ok. Got seated and we ordered. We both ordered combos. Mine arrived in about 20 minutes and my girlfriend told me to start eating as we were expecting hers to show up any minute. I ate and 10 minutes later, we asked where my girlfriend's meal was. We thought the waitress went to check but she never came back. 10 minites later, we asked another waitress. She checked and said it was coming. This is over 20 minutes after I got my meal now and I'm done. My girlfriend never got her meal. When we went to pay, the waitress asked if we wanted hers to go as it was finally ready, but we would have to pay for it. I told them we wanted a nice sit down lunch and not paying for something we waited 45 minutes for and for something we would have to reheat. The waitress couldn't seem to understand what Shanghai rice noodles were, which we have had before. We ordered 5 dishes. 2 came out, then after waiting and waiting, we alerted a waitress who wasn't even ours to check on our order Then, 2 more dishes arrived when the first two were cold Then still later, the final dish came. We were the only Asians in the entire restaurant. The restaurant was packed with blondes or brunettes. My heart sank when I saw this. I prayed that the food would be worth the hour drive from Surrey and the 2.5-hour flight from San Francisco. I was thoroughly surprised. The food wasn't the best Chinese I've ever had and I would still rather recommend a place in Vancouver, but the food was pretty authentic if you don't usually eat at Chinese restaurants that only want to cater to Chinese people. Of the 12 dishes we had, I liked the steamed fish the most, which was very sweet and tender. Too bad people were digging their used chopsticks into the fish to pick out the best pieces. Eww. The red bean soup was good, too. But then, how do you mess up red bean soup? The rest of the food was okay. The egg flower soup tasted weird with corn in it, the crab puffs were over-fried and too chewy, the lobster and noodle tasted like it was made with garlic Alfredo sauce, and all the pitchers of soda were flat. This restaurant is good for a party because they have a small but spacious room to the side with four tables for 12; however, the service is extremely slow and a little bit lacking. Tonight was a hungry night and absolutely starving from a long days work, we ordered at 5:06pm was told the amount would be $114.00 and 45 to 1 hour wait..... 2 hours! Yes 2 hours later the driver pulled up and one thing I believe in is never shoot the messenger. I was pissed that we never got a call saying they would be longer nothing at all, poor driver was embarrassed by the lengthy wait we endured. I tipped the driver and came back to call the manager of which was too busy to take call, after 3 times stating to the lady that for a $126 she better take a moment to hear me out. As I thought she did the "oh I'm sorry " which comes way too easy nowadays without actually being remorseful. I said what I needed to say and low n behold... yes yes can you believe it! Dragon Fort was our go to restaurant in Abby but after today's experience we'll never return. Our server was a lovely young gal with great service skills. The sweet and sour pork on my 'A' plate was so overcooked it was pork jerky swimming in sauce. This was quickly addressed and a freshly made somewhat betterj cooked serving appeared in minutes. Hey, it happens, and I was thrilled a new portion came so quickly. All was good until Ma's cheesecake arrived at the table. Frozen. So hard, a piece chipped off and landed on the floor. Server was called, and took it away . However, moments later a different woman appeared with a cheesecake and told us she could not take it back because a piece had been removed. A piece less than 1cm x 2 cm that had landed in the floor when ma was struggling to chip a piece off. I explained the issue to her and she had the audacity to tell us that it's our responsibility to ask how the cheesecake is served. Seriously. I asked to speak to the manager and she introduced herself as such. She then repeated that it's the customer's responsibility to ask how an item is served. You can't make this stuff up. Most bizarre interaction I've had with any business management. PLEASE remove this individual from her position of authority and let's hope she doesn't work in any form of customer service until she learns how to properly address simple issues. Food was decent according to my party. I ordered a vegetarian dish which had virtually no taste. The vegetables were not fresh at all - I'm pretty sure the mushrooms came from a can. My dish was tepid when it arrived, but it arrived quickly. If it were me alone, I'd rate the food one star. The place wasn't super dirty, but maybe it was the choice of furniture or something that made it feel rundown. Overall, I don't recommend this place for vegetarians. I was told it wasn't ready and it will be a couple moments. 20 minutes goes by I ask again, still not ready. 445 we stand by the counter again, we are asked by a different employee what our order number is. 2 minutes later they hand me the box of food I've been staring at since I walked in at 410. When I ask why I have been waiting here, while my food sits on the counter getting cold, I got an answer of the first employee is new, she didn't know. So now I'm stuck with over $200 of cold food. We have been driving all day from the Interior and made a dinner stop in Abbotsford. We chose the Dragon Fort because it was open later than most restos in the area. There's plenty of parking in the back and some are better lit than others. The interior was surprising because it looked like a Tudor house with the dark beams and pale walls. The staff are very friendly especially our waitress. She took a bit longer to take our order but the food came out right away. They were not skimping on the servings and everything came out piping hot; fresh out of the wok. Our order (corn chicken soup, Young Chow fried rice, pan fried noodles with chicken in black bean sauce and sweet and sour boneless pork) was well flavored and comparable to other Cantonese Chinese restos in the big city. read more

The search for an amazing Chinese restaurant seems hopeless at times. Enter the Dragon. Dragon Fort to be exact. My fiancé and I had to try this place so yesterday was the time. The neighbourhood was a bit sketchy with alarms going off as we arrived but, I've lived in Los Angeles so...we carry on. First impressions were mixed, a huge empty room but with nice big windows. We were seated and began ordering. We ordered a medium wonton soup, honey garlic wings, beef chop suey and cantonese style chicken chow mein with black bean sauce. The soup arrives and holy crap! It's a huge bowl of wonton soup! It was decent. A little shy on flavour but clean and well executed. Then the wings. Maybe my only real complaint was that the wings were so covered in honey and garlic that my hands were sticky. Too sticky for the super thin napkins they offer. I recommend they serve those wings with a finger bowl to get that honey off. A thicker serviette and a finger bowl would have saved the 30 napkins I needed. Lol. Then the mains came. All huge portions, well plated and very appetizing. We dug in and bam! There's that Chinese food I've missed. Just amazing flavours, fresh veggies, real meat that didn't leave doubt. Tender, perfectly cooked....just incredible. We took most of it home, reheated it and finished every bite. I would highly recommend Dragon Fort. Our waitress finished her shift while we were eating and her family came in for dinner....that's a pretty good sign. We will return. read more

They sent us shrimp rice instead of mushroom rice and we have a family member allergic to shellfish. They said the manager then will decide to give us credit or not. For those of you looking to get back to the Dragon Fort to get some of that Chinese Food you enjoyed before the Pandemic save yourself a trip! This Dragon Fort serves up the worst tasting Chinese I have ever tasted. We went out tonight to the Fort and were served by the the most surely waitress I have had in years! the most foul Chinese we have ever tasted. The sauces were bland and tasted mostly of corn starch and water with a hint of garlic or BBQ whatever the main ingredient was supposed to be. The prawns were miniature but the surrounding batter was gigantic! The chicken was miniscule and the batter was enormous and tasted like wet pancake mix. The chow mien was days old and tasted over cooked and bitter. Table service was miserable. The final dish came to the table just about when we were done. When we asked at the checkout if the restaurant had changed ownership we were told " No! But there is a new Manager, but the chef is still the same." That is all lies! Its under new ownership. Its a new Chef and he doesn't know how to cook! The new owner/Manager doesn't look his customers in the eyes! We left no tip, and rightfully should not have even paid the bill for rotten food and even worse service. The insolent Manager/Owner said "see you again! We said "No way Jose." He said " "If the food is so bad, why are you taking the extra food home?" We told him " We have a German Shepard...we want to see if he will eat it. If you have not been to the Dragon Fort you will be blown away by the portion sizes. Literally enough food served for two meals - one for lunch and one for dinner, if you choose. Do not feel bad if you cannot finish half of your lunch as the plate is literally overflowing with tasty Chinese cuisine. The food is above average but there are better places to go for Chinese in Abbotsford. Service is very quick and you can be in and out in 45 minutes easily if you are on a lunch timeline. A very popular local eatery; sometimes you will have to wait to be seated or pay your bill due to popularity and significant numbers of customers. Highly recommended. read more
