Bamboo Palace is a fantastic little spot in Abbotsford for real-deal Chinese food made fresh to order. With a bit of time to kill in Abby - not to mention a serious craving for Chinese - I decided to stop in for dinner. This restaurant holds a good capacity with plenty of tables, but during my visit it was completely empty. A few other diners walked in as I was ordering. The service was exceptional; the lady server I had came by frequently to ask about my food and fill up my water. The spring rolls were a nice size, but came scorching hot and were flavourless. Luckily, my two mains came right as I finished the last bites. A heaping portion of seafood chow mein appeared in front of me, as well as an oval plate full of pork ribs with a few veggies sprinkled on top. The chow mein was a bit heavy, but so delicious, with fresh tasting seafood and noodles that were cooked just right. The pork was the star of the night and I've dreamt about it many a hungry nights ever since - tender, juicy, salty, flavourful, a little spicy, and fall off the bone! A+++! Went there for dinner for my niece's birthday without making reservations. They were able to seat 14 people without a reservation within 20 minutes, sat us but then told us that it would be about 15 minutes until the server could come back to us. It would have been nice if they would have given us water and menus while we waited. My table (4 of us) ordered a few dinners for one and I ordered an item called 'Phoenix'. It was seafood with some veggies and mushrooms. The wonton soup was good and the combo plates were ok but Phoenix had a very strange smell to it and a slimy sauce on it. It didn't have as much seafood as I expected for the cost. No one came back to ask how the food was or ask us if we wanted anything else to eat or drink. Crazy expensive. Food wasn't 1st quality either. Pork was VERY grisly, noodles were thin & flavourless. Vegetables weren't consistently cooked either. 2km delivery for 2 combos took almost 2 hours. Driver was unapologetic & very rude. Sweet & sour sauce tasted like ketchup & table sugar. How do these guys stay in business ? I always walk in and order to take out and I'm always only waiting 15 mins when wait time is 45 if I order over the phone on busy nights. I've lived in Abbotsford for almost a year now and have always been trying to find a good Chinese food restaurant to satisfy my cravings for my native cuisine. Best Chinese food I have tried in Abbotsford so far. Good authentic taste. First time I ordered for delivery on Easter Sunday, the food came hot and fresh. The fried beef rice noodle, curry chicken on rice and beef with mushroom and baby corn all tasted great! Portion size were on the larger side. Second time we walked in to order for take out. Even though we ordered only one dish and a steamed rice, we were left so satisfied. again, the dish was piping hot and was definitely sizzling in their wok - yes you can smell/taste it! My husband and I tried this restaurant after checking out the internet first and we ordered in. It was very highly recommended in the sites we looked in. It was fantastic. We could not believe the size of the portions we got and the food was presented well even in the take-out containers. It was full of flavor, no grease or old looking food...fresh and awesome. We used to be fans of another Chinese Restaurant, and we will occasionally go back there but this is our number one favorite now for great food and good pricing. I decided to try this place out. I am very happy I did. The garlic dry ribs were very flavourful the tofu hot pot was delicious and the special chow mien was hot and fresh. The staff is very friendly, and the cook will come out to visit you at times if he's not too busy. Overall the meal and the experience was wonderful. The potions are generous and they endeavour to make your dining experience enjoyable. If you have to drive a ways, it's worth the effort. I will be coming back. read more

Dropped in at 1:30 for lunch, they close at 2 but no problem I got a seat. The lunch specials were very much "westernized" ie chicken balls, shrimp balls, stir fried rice etc. etc. prices were good $ 7 a dish and a range of combos. I asked for and ordered off the evening menu as I was seeking a little more authentic taste. Had the beef with ginger and onion (leeks) in oyster sauce and a special spicy soft noodle dish Shanghai style (large fat noodles) it was nicely spiced, just the right bite with a tasty sauce and cabbage, onions, carrots etc. I did my best but still left enough for one more person on the plate. Definitely not the best Chinese in Abbotsford. But ok once in a while to change it up. I was disappointed with my order tonight after finding two different hairs in separate dishes. One appeared to be animal hair, not sure why this would be? Anyways I'm not going to say I won't order here again because these things happen. So, my best fiend came for dinner with my hubby and me. We decided to order Chinese delivery. I am new to this area but I had a menu for this place. I have to say, we really enjoyed the food immensely. It was great. I am a Pescetarian and they cater to all foodies. My hubby and friend eat meat and seafood and their selections were well received! I would definitely order from here again. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the price. It is a little expensive. Maybe its cheaper to dine in. I will have to try it out soon! This was our second attempt over the past 5 weeks to eat in this restaurant. Never again! The first visit (party of 4) the server was horribly slow and we passed it off as an "off night". Excruciatingly slow and we still tipped well feeling sympathy for the server as we figured the restaurant was just understaffed that particular night. Not the case at all....... The second attempt (party of 2) the same 2 servers were on shift. When we arrived tonight, we walked into an empty restaurant with only one table of two finishing up an hour prior to closing.The same server who waited on our table previously saw us walking in to be seated and let out a LOUD groaning sigh at her irritation of our presence. It was not personal but she clearly does not enjoy her job or want customers supporting the restaurant. The other server pointed spasmodically to the dining room and we followed behind her as she lead us to a table where she threw down 2 menus and ran back to answer the the take out phone. We looked at each other and walked out. This was honestly the worst service I've ever received. Bamboo Palace! If you cant hire a decent or proper staff...how about closing your dining room and keep it to take out only?? SAD! read more

I live in Sumas, WA right now, which has one small shall-not-be-named Chinese food restaurant. I am 1 block from the border so it made sense for me to seek decent Chinese food in Abbotsford. I am a wonton fanatic, often in dire need of a my comfort food- a good wontop soup with enough wontons to have leftovers the next day. And found it, i did! (my heart be still) Since we are on the topc, let's start with their wontons. The fried version could be a tiny bit moister but still yummy nonetheless. Their to-go container is chocked full of wonton (a few vegis thrown in for good measure) and you more than get your monies worth. I do not say this easily- I assure you that 8/10 wonton soups I have tried lately have caused me to make a face, I am fussy- I dont want it tasting greasy, i dont want the overly-pork taste, i dont want it tasting like the soy sauce container or a salt shaker fell into it, I want a nice clean taste... you know? And when I came back with my best friend and her husband, we ordered a family dinner for 4, and she had to divy up the 4th bowl between said husband and I :p Their beef chop suey is good (light sauce instead beef sauce but good flavor) and they didnt skimp on the beef pieces. They have a chicken with mushrooms and corn (I think it was??) that is actually good. Chicken balls are not bad (I wasnt crazy about their sweet and sour pork though, go figure). BBQ pork fried rice? Yes. BBQ pork slice? Yes. Egg rolls? No, not so much (I know, I am surprised too!! i LOVE eggrolls and spring rolls... but they had a glob of something in the middle that left me bawking at it. Heart-wrenching! I do so love a good eggroll/springroll *sigh*) However you dont want to get me started on their lettuce wraps. You also dont want to get between me and it. In fact aforementioned best friend barely had ***1*** because her husband and I were attacking it like it was our last meal. She was lucky not to loose a finger. That is only partially in jest. Their lettuce wraps include some of the most beautiful lettuce I have seen and under the layer of filling are a layer of deep fried crunchy noodles that add not only a good crunch but seem to set off the flavor as well. The sauce it comes with is perfect for a light shmear inside the lettuce before stuffing it with the filling. I intend to return even more than I currently do. I intend to bring friends. I intend to work my way through the menu (at least halfway, it's only fair). As a plus? Discount for pickup and great service for eat-in. read more

I ordered from bamboo palace tonight and will never again. First of all it took an hour and forty five minutes to arrive. The egg rolls where full of the most disgusting slimy paste I have ever eaten. I nearly threw up. Thank god I didn't swallow any of it.I only got 4 burnt prawns with the combo dinner. And the Sechuan beef Was terrible. And to top it all off I did not receive any fortune cookies. I called to complain and was informed you need to request fortune cookies and she said that is how they make their slime rolls"on purpose". Please do not make the same mistake I did . You could go eat out of dumpster and be happier with your meal. Abbotsford has a lot of choices for Chinese food but you will regret it if you order from this place. My favourite and only Chinese restaurant I go to in Abbotsford. My family has been going to this restaurant for well over 15 years. It can be a bit pricey if you're buying a big meal for a family of 4+, but if you're paying for yourself it's not so bad. The family-run business works very well, and even when they're busy they're usually really quick with getting you your order. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for good-tasting and high quality Cantonese food. read more

Ordered for delivery. Took 1.5 hrs to get the food to the door. When they arrived after the 1.5 hours (we live 10 minutes away), they had forgotten the drinks that we ordered with the food. The food was cold and oily. He then took another 40 minutes to return with the ordered drinks. Upon calling the restaurant they had the typical attitude of a bad service restaurant. We have been customers of Bamboo Palace for many years. It was by far the best Chinese restaurant in Abbotsford for a long time, but unfortunately that is no longer the case, Over the years, I think the quality of food has deteriorated, particularly the pork and chicken balls which have lately been tough. Prices are not bad, but no great bargain either. The restaurant is nicely decorated, very welcoming and cheerful, albeit dated. The folks who seat you and take your order are cheerful and friendly. There is lots of room, and the restaurant can accommodate large parties. The main problem seems to be that they do a large take out business which they give precedence to, over sit-down business. When we were last there (Nov 2017) we got our soup fairly quickly, but it took at least 30 minutes after we finished the soup to get the entres. The main restaurant had very few customers, but the take out had lots--most well after we came, so obviously their orders were deemed to be a higher priority than ours. That much of a wait is not acceptable. If we had been told it would be that long we would have left. I told the server it was too long, but got no response or apology--or even an explanation, which would have been nice. Also, their parking lot sucks!! It is hard to get into in that it is in the middle of the block and traffic just flies down the hill not expecting one to brake and go in the lot. The lot is too narrow, too busy and not well lit, making a real challenge to back out. read more

When we ordered dinner they told us it would be maximum an hour. after 1.5 hours the delivery guy finally shows up, and then informs us he has forgotten our drinks and will have to go get them and then bring them back. After another 40 minutes we call back to find out that he went out delivering everyone else's dinner, and had just stopped at 7-11 to pick up our drinks. Instead of going to the store in the first place so we could eat.
