Every single thing that I or my kids tried was so NOT GOOD that I asked the manager if we could be charged less since we weren't satisfied and would not be eating much. He literally threw his head back laughing and said "No, this is a buffet!" I determined to find something to eat for my $8.97, but the second fork-full of lo mein noodles contained a hair!! I pushed my dish aside. My 11-year-old pushed his ice cream aside (!) and daughter dropped her cookie mid-bite. The manager then handed me a bill that had been discounted to $23.50 along with three fortune cookies. How bad could fortune cookies be that have been individually sealed in cellophane wrappers? SO BAD THEY WOULDN'T EVEN BREAK OPEN!! They were that SOFT! This will go down as my worst restaurant experience ever! My daughter was the only one who described it as "not that bad", and so she ate more than the rest of us. 16 hours later she is in the bathroom vomiting. Coincidence? Perhaps. Here's a fortune to stick in your cookie: "Wise man not laugh when customer says food sucks. Wise man learns from mistakes." Or "A good reputation is worth more than $23.50."

What caught my attention was Phosphates. As a child the local dairy had a soda setup and served phosphates. So I had to go and check out the South Side Soda Shop. It was a blast from the past. We were seated immediately and got our drink order in. I got a cherry phosphate and water. I also ordered 1/2 lb of peel and eat shrimp and a Italian Hoagie. The cook got me extra horseradish for my cocktail sauce. They were great. The Italian Hoagie was exactly like an East Coast hoagie. Oil and vinegar with oregano. Topped with tomato, lettuce and banana peppers. It was amazing. My buddy got an orange phosphate and a Philly Cheese Steak which he loved. The service was amazing. The people were great. It has a kinda lodge type feel. Country music playing in the back ground. A nice gentleman made it a point to show us in and seat us right away. Our waitress showed up at the table right away. She was very pleasant. She smiled and was eager share her recommendations. She recommended the chicken wing special, pulled pork, Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. She did tell us that the Mac and cheese does have a smoked flavor which we very much appreciated that she told us it would be different then the usual Mac and cheese flavor. We ordered the pulled pork, my husband got the Mac and cheese and I ordered the mashed potatoes. We did watch to see if the staff was friendly. We were seated in a corner so we could see the whole room. There were four wait staff all were buzzing about with smiles. They seemed attentive to their tables. Our server came to check on us to see if we needed more drinks. We had only been at our seats 10 min. That's a good sign for me. I always ask for lots of ice and this gal listens. I got a full glass of ice with my water. 10 points! Our meal was out in 15 minutes. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I loved the sweet corn bread. My husband would have like butter with his. The pulled pork was very moist, it even tasted wonderful without adding their barbecue sauce. Oh and hi fives to our waitress Taylor, she even remembered to fill my water with ice on my second drink. This place is reasonably priced, you won't go away hungry, and has a reasonable variety of choices. We will definitely will be back.
