I've been meaning to get to Draft Picks since they opened nearly 3 years ago now! I was hoping for an amazing beer selection at a place called Draft Picks and it was okay. It's very pilsner and lager heavy but I was able to scope out a few of the beers on tap I hadn't had before. I think of the over 30 on tap, I had only never tried 5 and 3 of those were their own beer. Do they brew them themselves? That wasn't quite clear to me. Our server was nice, changed half way through, but wasn't completely certain of the menu items and definitely not familiar with the beer list. They may need a bit more knowledge on the offerings. Also, didn't ever ask if I wanted another beer. They have daily specials like half off pizzas, $4 pint night, half off burgers...Each day has a different special going on so be sure to check what's going on! For my meal, I had the San Diego Chicken Sandwich and loved it! Everything tasted quite fresh and was done well. Chicken, ham & cheese? I'm all about that! This place has potential but a few suggestions - beef up that beer list on tap! Get some cool beers in to spice it up a bit. The menu is pretty big both on the beer & food side, so maybe spend some time getting staff super familiar with it all. Worst staff around. I sat at the bar, ordered an Iced Tea and asked for a menu. The bartender brought my tea, then proceeded to ignore me for at least 20 minutes. I finished my drink while watching her on her phone texting. when she finally noticed my empty drink she finally asked if I wanted to order anything. By that time I was so disappointed in the lack of service I decided to walk out. On my way out the door I asked the guy at the host stand to speak to a manager only for him to respond snarkily "why do you want to see a manager?". I repeated my request to speak to a manager. Nachos are a pass for me, it came topped with lettuce sour cream and guac, it was difficult to eat as the cheese was just baked on and it seemed like everything else was just shoved inside. Enjoy coming to draft picks for weekly trivia. Lots of TVs which is perfect for the number of games on this time of year. Selection of beer is alright. $5 for a 22oz in most situations. Pretty much all of their menu items are on the pricier side for the quality you're getting ($6 for just a side of fries, $15 for any wrap) so you're probably best off veering towards what specials they have that day. read more

If sports and specials are your jam, you're gonna dig it. They have plenty of both. There are many televisions, so many that any seat in the house will have view of a few. Specials; they have'em for every day of the week and happy hour. Ya know, the restaurant pros would tell you, any restaurant having to offer these many specials are suffering dilemmas. Look to reviews. I'd say their food is on par with most char houses in the area, however their prices are up there. A nice sandwich they offer is the whipped turkey burger. The new fad in turkey patties is whipped meat. After it's fried, the meat has a softened, whipped feel to it. It's pillow-like, unlike the frozen patties which can be hard. Think of a vegetable cutlet. Fried outsides and soft interior. It's a different kind of tasty. Their fries suffer from being the frozen variety but at least they are crinkle cut. Yet another fad item, but I find krinkle cut fun. I'll eat frozen fried fries once-in-awhile and if I do, I prefer krinkle / crinkle. Krinkle has grooves and cuts on them that allow it to be scoop-like. It will hold ketchup better and it can scoop stuff like cheese and toppings easier than other varieties. Also crinkle are made from mashed potatoes, it's what gives it a texture different than the regular frozen crap. (Fun food facts!) Side salads are meh-worthy iceberg lettuce. They save the good leafy varieties for the pricier options. One detail I find odd about the restaurant & bar, is its entry door. It's modeled like a gateway into House Bolton. (GoT reference) It's a heavy looking, black door with spikes or bolts on it. Like a medieval looking sort. Not friendly or inviting. What is the purpose? Splurge buy? Should have stuck with your theme and chosen something similar. read more

We've been here before, but tonight we were not impressed. The service was extremely slow. We were only served in the hour that we were here. The first drink I ordered was not correct. Our pizza would a little more than well done. Paying the bill took forever. It was not busy so I am not sure why the service was so terrible. . Update*** I just recently went to draft picks for their fall fest. It was an over the top great time. $10 cover and we saw 7th heaven and the Petty Kings Excellent entertainment , wonderful friendly service and prompt food delivery. Wings were delicious. Still wish they had half off appetizers. I would come more often. But this night Spiro the owner went all out. My hats off to him. He really did an excellent job too to bottom. As did the staff and the mount prospect police who protected us that night . There were even free give away t shirts key. Gains and hats. Excellent time. "BEWARE" watch your bill when you ask for your tab. They tend to add items. They added 8 beers to our tab. When server was questioned he commented "What do you want me to do about" Then spoke to management still results. Walked out paying for beers never ordered. My fault paid bill without looking at bill. The high bill was brought to my attention by my spouse. Then sratred to question. read more

Draft Picks is a sports bar located on Busse Road, across from the CVS. I had formerly visited this restaurant when it was "The Black Cow Kitchen". Now, the building has a new name, menu, & concept. I have seen the exterior of the building numerous times driving by and had always wanted to stop in and try the new menu. Fortunately, the other night my father and I had a craving for a gourmet burger. Luckily, we found Draft Picks on GrubHub! It was the perfect opportunity to try it at home, without having to go out in the subzero temperatures. My father and I browsed the expansive menu - all available for delivery! They have a huge selection of appetizers, salads, pizza, sandwiches, wraps, and of course - gourmet hand-packed burgers. I decided to keep it simple and ordered a Classic Cheese Burger. My father decided to try something unique and ordered "The Draft Picks Burger". The burgers here are 10-ounce and hand-packed. The burger is served on a super-yummy brioche bun. (So much better than a regular boring bun!) We placed our order and could hardly wait to bite into that juicy burger! Delivery was very reasonable- under an hour. The delivery driver was friendly and called prior to arrival. The food was still very hot- even the fries were still edible. The burgers were cooked just right & the brioche bun was one of the best I've had! However, we did have one issue with our order. The restaurant forgot to include the pickles & cole slaw. That is supposed to be included with each of the burgers. Overall, I'd definitely order again. The food was delicious and they deliver - what more can you ask for! It's nice to be able to get a gourmet burger delivered - instead of pizza all the time! I look forward to ordering again via GrubHub! P.S. - If you're a fan of chipotle mayo - it is phenomenal. Wife and I (live down the street) stopped in today for dinner and to check out what owner's Jimmy and Spiro, did to the Ol' Artemis/Black Cow of days gone bye. HD/TV's seemingly ubiquitous, and my personal favorite, a HUGE 6-screen, probably 5'x15' TV !!! Can't wait to see the Blackhawks play both NY teams this week on that bad-boy! Wife had the Southwest salad, said it was fine. I had the Garlic Parmesan Wings. Very good, truly jumbo w/ a nice twang and a perfect portion of creamy sauce. Recommend adding more parmesan from a table side shaker for the full effect. Haven't been here since my last review over a year and a half ago. Just never felt it necessary to stop by. Came here last night for a going away party for a buddy of mine. They booked the back room and patio. The service was absolutely fantastic. They were constantly walking around clearing plates and empty bottles and then bringing more beers to tables. The owner kept cycle in often and make sure his staff was performing well and making sure everyone was enjoying themselves. My qualms in the past with this place has been the food, I've found some good things in the past and some very not good things. The pizza here is fantastic! They don't cheat you on toppings, that's for sure. I will be back in the future and it will be sooner than another year and a half. read more

Have been going to Draft Picks for many sporting events. They always have plenty of TVs and the food and drink specials are enticing. They have daily specials and then additional deals after 9pm. The servers are always welcoming and the Asst manager always stops by to check on you or just chat. They have a nice patio seating area if you like to be outdoors read more

Wow, you would think that with the same owners as the previous establishment (Black Cow) that shuttered, you would think they might have learned from their mistakes and correct them! The management still has the same arrogance and were talking down to the employees and a couple of elderly ladies at the bar. The place has sub par bar food and the selections are pretty bland. The ONLY bright side of our visit was we didn't have our credit card number stolen like we did here previously. They have an assortment of salads, sandwiches, burgers, and appetizers. We started with the spinach dip, which was pretty good. For my meal, I went with the Cubbie Blue Burger with waffle fries as my side. The waffle fries were pretty good and somewhat crispy, which is how I like them. The burger was just OK and could have used a bit more flavor. As you might expect, it can get kinda loud inside and there were plenty of TV's around the place that you could watch. The food looks very good and the drinks are about average as you're not going to find too many specialized beer or wine. Went there on a Sunday, noonish. Walked in and was greeted and asked if I was for lunch or the bar; I went to the bar to have a beer. The bartender, Kelly, was all smiles and energetic which was a pleasant site to see, so I order a beer, it came in a nice frosted glass. There are TVs all around you, so you won't miss a game of whatever sport you like. At the time, they had golf, college womens softball, and soccer on; the Sox and Cubs were on later that day. Waited for the wife to join me for lunch and was seated by Sladja in a booth by a window. She was our server for the day. The wife ordered the ribeye steak dinner (on special on Sundays for $16.95) and I order a Fire Chicken sandwich (all chicken sandwiches are half off on Sundays). The wife wanted a rootbeer float, but it isn't on the menu. Sladja said she could make her one and she did, what a great job in making it. The food was tasty, the service was great, the price was fair, and the place was clean and cool inside with workers who seem to enjoy doing their job.
