    Fried Pickle spares

Tried this place for the first time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We loved the cozy local feeling vibe this place has.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The sports that were on the tv's seemed off. They didn't have any local sports like Hawks or anything.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was very promp and friendly. The food was ok we had the pickle spares which were great, County Fried steak, which was a frozen store bought patty. That was a disappoint and wish it was homemade. We also had the tuna melt, and that was very good. I'm definitely going to try this place again.

My son ordered the Beef Kabobs $19.00, definitely not worth the money. Thought he would have three kabobs, and it looked like a leftovers.

The Donkey Inn is our "local," the place where I meet my Dad and sister and her husband for the Friday night fish fry, ice cold Guinness and a catch-up. Sometimes our children join us, sometimes cousins, sometimes we recognize friends (or meet new ones) and have a chat at the bar!! The Donk is often busy but wait times are short--and there's a bar where you can wait. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Glamorous it is not. Walls, floors, chairs and tables are all wood.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The booths are huge, accommodating 6 easily.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are big TVs in the bar where you can keep your eye on the game.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Easy parking lot, too. Reliably good meal choices include the mushroom and Swiss burger with waffle fries; I mostly get the Friday night fish & chips special with tasty clam chowder, crispy cod and fries. Recently the tempura shrimp has been a standout, huge shrimp and a light crispy batter. Best thing about the Donk is the laid back, friendly wait staff!! Be sure to say hello to them for me!!

A few of us got together for a mini reunion since I moved back from Texas. The Donkey Inn menu is massive and appreciated. Most everything is pretty good and great portions. Karen was our server and very helpful and attentive to our party of six. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I appreciate that Donkey Inn doesn't try to be more than it is. Good food, regular type clientele, and decent times.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Here's why it doesn't get 5 stars. The menu states that White Claws are $5 but you're charged $6. The similar is true with High Noon's. The menu said it was $6 but we were charged $7. I don't think it's a huge deal and we paid the higher prices but this should be adjusted until they fix the physical menus. Overall, good experience.

    Cream of chicken soup

I've come here multiple times, including today, and I'm shocked I haven't written a review yet. My parents love coming here, and they come here much more often than me and my husband, but I'd say the food here is pretty good, and they serve breakfast all day if that's your thing! I have had the reuben, the cream of chicken soup (which I normally order if available), and their bloody Mary here (the one with Titos that comes with a side car). Although I have always enjoyed my food from here, in my opinion, it's nothing special that I particularly crave. Though, the cream of chicken soup is deliciously creamy and thick, and the reuben is always perfectly cooked. I normally get the tots on the side, and they never disappoint either. The nice thing about here is that they have all of the delicious greasy sides to choose from: tots, waffle fries, chips, or normal French fries. When it comes to service, we've always had great servers. Everyone seems to be helpful and attentive. One thing that's a little annoying about this place is the small parking lot. Sometimes cars don't realize that it's a one-way parking lot, and then it makes it very difficult to make your way through to the exit. To be honest, Donkey Inn is basically just a nice neighborhood bar that's clean and has an extensive food menu. Though, I do think it's worth a try!

If you're a beer drinker, they have a massive selection on tap (about 90 taps--and no, that's not a typo!). They also have a large patio that looks like a great spot when the weather is nice. Inside, there's a good mix of low-tops, high-tops, banquettes, and booths. All the tabletops feature copper tops with wood trim, and exposure to water and food over time has given each table a unique patina. We arrived right as they were switching over from the brunch menu to dinner, and the staff made us feel very welcome. What We Ordered: Smoked Brisket Reuben Eggrolls: We ordered these special eggrolls for the table. My friend has a shellfish allergy, and since many traditional eggrolls contain shrimp, he was excited to try these. He said they were the best eggrolls he's ever had (though he admitted he doesn't eat them often!). He paired it with a Guinness Zero non-alcoholic draught and was amazed by how close it tasted to the original. Fish Tacos ($19): Recommended by another reviewer, these come with three cornmeal-battered, fried Mahi-Mahi tacos topped with cilantro lime cream and fresh micro cilantro. They were crispy and very tasty. If you're usually sensitive to cilantro, you might still enjoy these--I mostly tasted a bright, lemony freshness rather than heavy cilantro. Sides (Broccoli Rabe & Asparagus): I substituted chips for a vegetable side. Due to a mix-up in the kitchen, I got to try the broccoli rabe first, though it turned out way too spicy for anyone at our table. My actual order was asparagus--my absolute favorite--but it was a bit disappointing, as the bottom half of each stalk was woody and fibrous. Fish & Chips ($21.50): My friend went with this traditional entry. At that price point, he was expecting three fillets, but he couldn't finish the two that were served and took some home. Overall, a solid entrée. Classic Breakfast ($15.50): My husband got this from the brunch menu. He was very pleased with the scrambled eggs, potatoes, thick-sliced bacon, and sausage links. Overall, a solid visit with great variety on the menu!

Brunette bartender with a lovely accent was so sweet and attentive and funny! Walked over a couple nights later, and it was drastically different. We ordered non-Irish food, but it is a bar, so expect bar food. We ordered Chicken Wings with BBQ Sauce and Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich. Both came with fries and the portions were quite massive! The flavors were not exciting or different, but was delicious. The wings were lightly fried and the BBQ sauce wasn't too punchy. It was very mild. The home made cole slaw was great. It had a cruncy texture and was delicious. The hot chicken sandwich had the necessary spice for Nashville Hot Flavor. Also delicious. They have a vast selection of drinks and the bar is quite large. There were seven of us and we all converged from Buffalo Grove and Vernon Hills. Jimmy D's doesn't come up on your normal burger place lists in and around the area, but we saw a post somewhere and knew we had to check this place out, especially if it ended up being across from the future home of the Chicago Bears. We'd probably end up hanging out there and wanted to make sure it was a good enough place to hang and be a part of the action, whilst not paying for said action. Anyhoo, we all pulled up to find a nice parking lot next to/behind the restaurant. It's a cool place with a couple entrances (one in the lot and the other from the street). It's a nicely adorned building and has the requisite sports decor on the inside with plenty of televisions to watch many games at once. There was plenty of seating for our group as it was quite empty on a Monday night and there wasn't any game of note when we were there. We called ahead letting them know our numbers and they accommodated us with a reserved table. They were attentive and constantly refilled out waters and sodas and brought more beer when needed/requested. The service was friendly and attentive. We were there for the burgers of which there are four options: the House burger, the Fried Egg Burger, the Mac Daddy, and a Black Bean burger. However, stipulations for being in our club is that you can only order a red meat-based burger. We did order the buffalo sauced wings as an appetizer to share. They were sauced nicely, not too hot, and quite good. I would definitely recommend getting them if you visit. I also ordered the cream of chicken soup. It was a perfect option for the cold night and I rank it among one of the better cream of chicken soup options in the suburbs. While not a sommelier of cream of chicken soup, I do rank it quite well: I think it matches Jameson's Char House for quality, thickness, and flavor. Mama clearly knows what she's doing with her soup. I opted for the Mac Daddy burger. It's prepared with: black angus beef, boom boom sauce, house mac n' cheese, bacon, fried onions, sliced jalapeños, toasted brioche. I normally don't opt for the special/signature house sauces as I've been burned before by these so-called "recommended" house sauces (I'm looking at you, Lucky Burger, with your terrible "dijonnaise" sauce - ugh, don't get me started on THAT sauce). However, I was told it's a hot sauce for the burger and figured it wouldn't overpower everything else on the burger. The mac n' cheese was a tad creamy, but so what, the bacon, fried onions, jalapenos, and boom boom sauce cut into the creaminess a bit and it worked. And it didn't overpower the flavor of the burger, which I thought it would, but somehow didn't. I really liked this burger, the bun held up, the bacon stayed crispy, and jalapenos and sauce added a nice kick but not overwhelmingly so. I would get this again. The sandwiches come with housemade fries or tots, but I know that if tots are offered, you can (generally) never go wrong with tots (I'd point out Puck's Pub but they closed and did the world a favor in doing so). Everyone generally liked their burgers and would return again. In our 5 point scale, Jimmy D's District got a 4.25. They have a nice brunch menu and drinks to match and I want to try them out someday. Let me know if you're going and I'll meet ya there if available.
