After quite a bit, the operator told me that my guide had a van issue and wasn't coming, however, the manager would be there "very soon!" I continued waiting outside the hotel in the heat, to receive a callback that the manager man had decided not to drive up from San Antonio. They offered me a nighttime tour, which I declined as I already had different night plans booked. I requested a refund and call from the manager. I received neither. Worse, Expedia refused to refund me my $109, stating that I didn't cancel 24 hours in advance. Which is absurd. This company stood me up on my ONE full day in Austin, stole my money, and manager man couldn't even call to apologize. Cowards and thieves. This group fully wasted my time and managed to fully stress me out on a rare vacation day. I hope they're ashamed of themselves, but they got my money so I doubt they care even one ounce. Avoid like the plague. My blood is still boiling. Edit 9/24: I was able to secure a refund. But the manager never called, and I'm still highly unhappy about that. My sentiments still stand.

Tickets for everything included, no waiting in line for anything, all very well organized. Ride back was smooth. John C. our driver and guide was extremely engaging and knew all sorts of Texas history (being a teacher and all, among his many other careers) Full of facts and so funny. Loved stopping at Buc-ees for restroom break & breakfast sandwiches. Mission San Jose was a great first stop to get the history of the missions purpose, layout, what happened there & restoration efforts during Great Depression. Great background context to the Alamo. It's the best preserved mission in Texas. Then we went to the Alamo which was great for historical purpose but the land around it has been commercially developed so didn't have that historic context or vibe we got from the San Jose mission we just came from. Glad we did the mission first to understand the Alamo. Going to the mission first helped provide more context to the Alamo. John knew so much and conveyed so much background which prepared us. The Alamo was wonderful to see and yes it was a little rushed. We saw the church and watched the videos to explain further what happened there. Do wish we had John or a guide to take us around the Alamo to explain or point out things but it's a state park so non official park guides are not permitted Then we did the Riverwalk which we loved. 1/2hr cruise along the canal in San Antonio. Tour guide on the boat was great and humorous. Afterwards John met us with icee slushies which was so refreshing and much appreciated as we were thirsty. We were underwhelmed by the Tower of the Americas. I guess it's the only other thing in San Antonio. Overall it was an excellent tour of San Antonio. John knew all the best spots for photos. John was so interesting and made the tour awesome. He was always on time, met us as we finished our tours, communication was excellent. Consciousness and great tour guide. If they substituted the Tower of America with perhaps some free time in San Antonio to walk around by ourself & have lunch perhaps, it would have been absolutely perfect tour. all in all, it was perfect day trip outing and we were so happy to have taken this trip with John5127516026 at Tripshepherd See-Sight Tours of Austin (Mike7573488397). Highly recommend this tour to San Antonio from Austin

Landmarks is the group that manages the public art on campus at The University of Texas at Austin…read more The collection includes 50+ works of art - both indoor and outdoor pieces throughout the campus - that are either on loan from the MET or were specially commissioned for the campus. I've had exposure to the Landmarks program through their monthly art walks (the first Sunday of the month) as well as through an evening skyscape experience at the James Turrell "The Color Inside" installation (reservations highly recommended!). The monthly art walks are free to the public and are one hour each time. The docent staff member curates an experience and conversation about a handful of pieces in the collection that you visit and get to experience first-hand. I've learned a lot and appreciated the ability to see and experience the art with others in a low-key, approachable way. I am definitely someone who appreciates and supports the arts, so am glad that there is a program dedicated to making public art more accessible to the public in Austin like this!

The Freddy Powers Pavilion is located on the grounds of La Hacienda RV Resort & Cottages in Austin,…read moreTexas which is owned an operated by Ken & Lydia Butchek. The rustic facility has featured a variety of artists since its construction including singer/songwriter namesake and resident when not on the road Freddy Powers. Along with infamous group of musical friends who join him to play day long concerts at his annual Freddy Powers Pickin' Party. Freddy may not be as known by some as his friends and collaborators including Merle Haggard, George Jones, and Willie Nelson, but his award winning songs and production work are behind-the-scenes testaments to his talent and success. Powers was raised in Texas and got his musical training playing with his family's band in West Texas honky tonks. In Fort Worth, he started working with Paul Buskirk, who would soon introduce him to Willie Nelson. The three men became lifelong friends and collaborators, dedicated to broadening the perimeters of country & western, particularly to include swing jazz. While recording the album Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Nelson invited Powers to play golf. That invitation blossomed into one of Freddy's early successes, as Nelson asked him not only to play on his album, but to become involved as co-producer as well. This was a big move for Powers: the record sold more than a million copies. Soon after, Merle Haggard invited Powers out to California. These two were kindred spirits and were soon living alongside each other in houseboats on Lake Shasta. In 1983, his song "I Always Get Lucky With You" was a monster country hit. He penned half the songs on the Haggard album It's All in the Game, and also scored some chart action writing for George Jones. He toured the next six years with Haggard then decided to head back to his Texas roots. With five solo albums under his belt in addition to his production and writing, Powers career is unparalled in country music. The events feature a variety of up and coming singer/songwriters to well known names. It's an event to try and not miss.
