The Rhapsody Mural is located in my neighborhood, just down the street from where I live. I especially love this mural because of my love and appreciation of mosiac artwork; specifically that made of ceramaic as this is.
The mural is located in the heart of East 11th Street in the Charles E. Urdy Plaza.
It was designed in 2003 by UT professor, John Yancey who collaborated with Steve Jones & Luis Alicea.
The mural is a statement piece to commemorate East Austin's jazz & blues legacy. It was commissioned for a project (Eleven East) funded by Austin Revitalization.
I am fortunate enough to walk past this glorious work of art as well as many others in my neighborhood on a daily basis.
The rich historical value this piece brings to the neighborhood boldy represents the vibrant music scene of days gone by.
