Another fabulous piece of artwork in my neighborhood, just a few minutes walk from my apartment.
As many may know, Chris Rogers originally painted the mural in 2014 and it was painted over in 2017 by the owners of a shop that had been hastily relocated to the spot. It has been said that as a Latin-owned, arts supporting business, it was not their intention to have it covered. Nonetheless, that is exactly what happened.
Thankfully, the mural was repainted and stands as a symbol of a community banning together in a postive way and supportive manner.
Items of note: The mural contains a Maya Angelou quote and it salutes many well-known local atists, activists, and musicians (Gary Clark, Jr., Octavis Berry and others) as well as nationally known performers and leaders such as Prince, Nina Simone, Bob Marley, and more.
I would recommend swinging by and paying respects to this masterpiece. read more
