So Dr. Arrobio is out for medical leave, there is a different dentist filling in. I am not sure what his name is. I went in for a cleaning, and we did a really extensive set of xrays, (they still use film btw). I have been going for my regular cleanings for a while and Dr. Arrobio didn't make any of my work sound urgent. He said some of my crowns needed to be replaced "sometime in the next couple years". I was pleased to know that I wasn't having any problems because I have a history with some pretty extensive dental work (root canals, crowns etc). Fast forward to a few weeks ago for my most recent cleaning... The fill in dentist was suggesting that I get about 10 different appointments worth of work done, which was frankly pretty shocking considering I had been in 6 months ago and was told everything looked fine. They wanted me to get my metal fillings replaced "asap" too. So I was pretty skeptical about this because I've been told wild things from dentists before, so when I was out of town visiting family I decided to get a second opinion from my family's dentist. I made it clear to them that I would NOT be getting any treatment from their office ( I live 500 miles away) so they were able to give me a completely objective opinion on my dental needs. The feedback this dentist gave me was completely conflicting with what Dr. Arrobio's fill in suggested. Dr. Chen (the 2nd opinion) did not urge me to get the metal fillings swapped out, and he DID suggest that I get a crown added to an old root canal that was at risk, something Dr. Arrobio's office did not suggest. Ironically, the work suggested by Dr. Chen was much pricier but was much more logical. (replace 3 old messed up crowns done by an admittedly bad dentist) and fill a cavity or two. That's it. His office was state of the art so he was able to show me exactly what he was talking about. So Dr. Chen advised about 3 or 4 different appointments worth of semi urgent work that were much easier to understand, and were in complete conflict with Dr. Arrobio's associate. The associate and hygienist had a hard time explaining what needed to be done and why, which was a red flag for me. I am also upset that Dr. Arrobio didn't suggest I get this work done 6 months ago. Various other notes: exam rooms don't feel completely sanitary, there aren't replaceable covers on the overhead lamp. The dentist was only partially wearing his facial mask which examining my teeth. I would stay away...I don't know what is going on over there but they don't seem to be prioritizing the actual health of your teeth. I used to recommend him to people but I feel guilty about that now after this experience. I am changing to a completely different dentist. read more

Dental work was fine. Insurance claims and customer service worse than abysmal. His office screwed up the claims to the dental insurance company, and then billed me for the whole thing. When I requested a list of the charges and what the insurance company had paid, Arrobio never responded, and instead reported me to a collection agency. Very shortly after I got the notice from the collection agency, I received an updated bill from Arrobio showing a new insurance adjustment for service from a year before! That proved that in fact they had messed up the claim the first time. Yet, they sent a collection agency after me at the same time. Eventually the claims were made properly and I paid the remainder in full. Despite several requests during this whole ordeal, including after it was concluded, Arrobio would not withdraw the invalid collection from the collection agency. This screwed up my credit rating for years until I finally got the collection agency itself to remove it from my record by providing them the records. Arrobio was never any help. This was from a while back, so it is possible Arrobio is better now. I went to him for several years. I mostly had cleanings done. But they wanted to do X-Rays every single time I went. The third time they wanted to do X-Rays, I said I didn't want to have them done. He and his whole staff acted kind of shocked. I swear, I had like 3-4 people hovering around the room, all whispering at each other as if I was CRAZY for declining the X-Rays. I didn't have any serious problems going on with my teeth, either. I do not remember the sequence of events, but, I also asked Arrobio if he would remove a metal wire retainer that my middle school orthodontist had cemented onto my lower front teeth. I had metal bands cemented around my lower canines, and they were unsightly. I had had this contraption in my mouth for about 10 years. It was ugly and it made it hard to brush & floss around that whole area. But, Dr. Arrobio refused to remove it. And he wouldn't even explain WHY! Then, I overheard him talking to someone else on his staff, about a small cavity I had. They said they were waiting to see if the cavity would get WORSE! Also, every time I went, he had different hygienists working there. High turnaround makes me a bit suspicious about a business. I had one hygienist who I remember, because she was SO friendly and she would not stop talking. Normally I find this slightly annoying, but she was super sweet. Because of her, I went out and bought some Biotene, because she said the blue coloring in Listerine can stain your teeth. But I never saw her again. Another hygienist I had, tried to talk at me, but I asked her if she would please just do the cleaning and not talk, because I couldn't answer all her chatting with her hands in my mouth. She nodded and did her work. I really appreciated that. So, for those 2 hygienists that I remember, I am giving an extra star. But for Arrobio himself, I would give 0 stars if I could. I guess I am glad that others have had better experiences with him. Maybe he just didn't like me? I don't know. I was always polite to everyone there. I found a much better dentist in the Pasadena area after that. The new dentist (NOT Arrobio) listened to my horror stories, and he didn't insist on taking X-Rays. He explained to me that the wire around my lower teeth was helping to keep them straight. But he said he could have a removable retainer made for me that I could wear at night. So, I said yes, can we please do that? And now I wear this neat little clear plastic retainer every night and my lower front teeth are still straight. Also, my new dentist filled my cavity. He thought it was very odd that Arrobio had not filled it right away. I hope you all understand that I am not trying to slander anyone. I am simply relating my experience. That's what happened to me. The offices are really clean and new looking. It is a small place with one dentist and a small, very friendly staff. Appointments start right on time. My cleaning was done all in one visit. The prices for fillings and x-rays and teeth whitening are great, even with out insurance. The dentist is friendly. The hygienist is a very intelligent, patient, friendly lady who is as gentle as possible on your teeth. read more

Long-time patient of Dr. Arrobio's, referred via other trusted dentists/dental family members in other areas. Hygienists over the years have been *excellent*, exemplified by Angel these last few years. He always has up-to-date news and suggestions for optimal oral health, many of which have worked for me, and his cleaning is excellent. No one i know likes being in the chair for fillings, root canals, etc. Between Dr. Arrobio's decades of experience--obvious from his focused, precise, pain-free work, and highly skilled assistant Mary's expertise and soothing demeanor, these not-fun events are as close to pleasurable as they get. I feel safe and well cared-for, and so far the results over time match this sense. Melissa has run the front office the last few years with great efficiency. She keeps everything moving while easily and naturally treating everyone well, in a friendly manner. Everyone with whom i've dealt over the years at Dr. Arrobio's office have been very good to best-in-field. I believe the current lineup of the last few years (mentioned above) rank in the latter range. I look forward to continuing to benefit from the services of everyone there. read more

I have been a patient for 40 years. All my family members go to him including my exes. I've comfortably and happily referred others to him over the years as well. Even though I've moved away from the Pasadena area and changed all my doctors accordingly, he is the one doctor I still make the drive for. I simply would not trust my mouth/teeth to anyone else! He helped undo a huge botched dental job many years ago, even going so far as to help me win my case against the dentist from the Dental Review Board. Over the years I've had extensive work done and I trust him thoroughly. He keeps current with the latest and greatest technology advances and does everything he can to save a tooth. When I've had weekend emergency situations, and sadly there have been a few, he has been there - no problem. Other dental specialists I've been referred to have also made comment about what a great dentist he is. read more

I've been going to Dr Arrobio for many years and I think he was great. But he is no longer practicing and the several stand-in dentists at this practice were not so great. My main trouble is with the receptionist Melissa who could not seem to send my x rays to a new dentist after many many phone calls, and with the fact that the X-rays were unreadable when finally sent due to the old-school practice of using film rather than digital. So I incurred a great cost to get new X-rays at a new dentist. She was always frustratingly difficult to deal with and dishonest many times but I hung in there because I liked Dr. Arrobio. Just be aware that he is no longer working at this practice. read more

UPDATE to my August 2012 review: It was worth the 2+hour drive each way. I was seen right on time. Unless I have a dental emergency which requires immediate attention, Dr. Arrobio is the only dentist I trust. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, too. read more

I've been going to him since Jr High. My Dad sees him, my husband sees him, my sister drives from Orange County with her kids to go to him. My husband started going to him when his (insurance recommended) dentist wanted to pull a tooth on the spot, but Dr. A said all he needed was a deep tooth cleaning. He's an easy going guy, office staff is very friendly. This is not a big fancy multi-location outfit. Go to Dr. Arrobio if you want an old fashioned, low key kind of dentist who knows what he's doing with your teeth. You won't be seeing him in any "Go see Cal" kind of ads. The hygienists are gentle and nice, and if you wait more than 5 minutes in his office it's unusual. Also, don't equate "old fashioned" with out of date technologically. I would recommend him to anyone. read more

Dr. Arrobio is a big guy. I'm a big guy. He knows that, when it comes to getting your teeth worked on, big guys don't like pain. So he's probably the gentlest dentist you'll ever know. And good, too. I can't think of another dentist I would have stuck with for 25 years. read more

Dr. Arrobio is highly skilled. In addition to many check ups and cleanings, I've had several procedures done over the past 25 years including a root canal and taking care of several cavities. All have been super efficient, very quick and painless. He doesn't do work that isn't necessary, but is very proactive in doing what's needed for preventive care. I also had a terrible experience with the associate who was filling in for Dr. Arrobio. Long story short, I was told that I needed about 6 fillings re-done (all of which were less than 2 years old- completed by Dr. Arrobio) because there was decay that was never cleaned out the first time around by Dr. Arrobio. I had all of these "fixed" but have been having pain and sensitivity since February when they were completed. I should have started questioning when the associate was late for every appointment by at least 45 minutes, and completely did not show for one. At first I thought Dr. Arrobio just did not do a good job. Now, I have moved back to the East Coast, and the new dentist I am seeing, expertly showed/explained to me how these new fillings are all "botched". Now, they all must be redone again. To say I am extremely disappointed and frustrated is an understatement. My lack of trust for dentistry and anxiety created by this office is unfortunate. read more
