A quick search showed the OEM part is widely available for around $150, and the job typically takes 1-2 hours. Charging $1,800 for that kind of work is hard to justify. To their credit, when I called and requested a refund of the deposit, they returned it without issue (hence the 2 stars). That said, the initial sales approach was misleading and predatory. For context, another company has since quoted $460 for the same repair.

Installation was flawless, but the price was exorbitant at $8300. $6-6500 would have been a fair price for a $3400 heater marked up 1.5X and a 6-8 hours of labor at more than $200/hr labor. Met with owner and he justified the price mostly due to "knowing his costs", generous salaries for his employees, enormous overhead, advertising and a "small profit margin" Lesson learned. When the technician goes into upsell mode and tells you they are offering a competitive price, don't believe them. Get three quotes. Also, they remove any negative reviews and want you to not post anything detrimental on social media.

Then we called a competitor who showed us that our problem was a hypo-allergenic heater filter with a weave so tight that the heater shut down rather than pump more air through that filter. It cost us $150 for the other guy's site visit and $35 at Lowe's for a new, less tightly woven filter. Problem solved. Don't go to Scatton's.

We are grateful the co detectors were working! This happened on a Monday. By Monday afternoon we had an estimator arrive to give an estimate. We decided to replace both furnaces and A/C units. Scatton's rearranged a few schedules to do our installations on that Friday with two crews. The crews were very professional and courteous and explained everything to us in detail. Their cleanup was immaculate. I highly recommend Scatton's and will be using them in the future for all our HVAC needs.

A friend and I went on a planned vacation to New England for four nights and did get some relief there. We returned home and our house in Abington was hotter than a sauna. I began calling A/C companies to see about it getting repaired. These were all good, honorable companies and to a man, they were recommending a complete replacement. Although I could have waited for a part for an old air conditioner to come and be installed, I eventually chose a new system. So, now, I got estimates for new systems. Danny D'Amore happened to be my last estimate. It was Friday and HOT. He would install it on Tuesday. Tuesday the 15th of July, just a few days after his estimate. So for almost a month of some of our HOTTEST weather, we, and our cat panted. Newly purchased box fans helped but 95 degrees is 95 degrees. I have used Old York in the past for an issue with my furnace and was satisfied with my service. I…read morealso have a friend who has had positive experiences with Old York so I didn't hesitate to call them when my 1st floor unit AC wasn't working. They were prompt in scheduling an appt. and actually called the day before because the technician was "right around the corner" so he came a day earlier. Apparently the emergency "off" switch was accidentally turned off when my husband changed the filter. He noticed it immediately but charged me $150 for the visit. I understand a minimum trip charge but he was literally less than 1/2 mile away so he wasn't going out of his way to come to my house. When I called Old York to explain that I thought the charge was excessive considering all he had to do was flip a switch, I was told someone would call me back in a couple of days. Of course no one did and when I followed up a week later I was told that the technician also checked the electrical connections and the pressure and that is how they justified that charge. He was here no more than 10 minutes but spent 1/2 hr sitting in my driveway afterwards. I guess that is how they justify the time spent on the job even if they aren't doing anything. You would think they might offer a partial credit towards a future service just to keep a customer. I will not be using their services in the future nor will I recommend them.

Prompt, pleasant service with minimal hassle. Price is comparable to what we paid previously. Didn't try to sell us any unnecessary upgrades. Asked for a quote on adding a humidifier. Provided multiple options and explained trade-offs of each. Need to save up for the humidifier but will definitely contact them when ready to proceed. Will continue to use them for maintenance and would definitely recommend.

13 yrs ago, I purchased my home new and Ecks Air was hired by the builder to install the HVAC units…read morefor all the homes in the neighborhood. The first summer living here our air conditioning shut down and the owner from Ecks Air (Mark) came out and said the refrigerant was low and it just needed to be "charged up". This worked fine for the rest of the summer. The following summer our system shut down again and Ecks came out acting clueless and said the system is fine and just needs another charge. I learned later on that at this point Mark from Ecks Air definitely knew something was wrong and was taking the lazy, unethical route out of the situation. The same thing happened the third summer living here and I asked around and learned this is not normal so I asked the owner of Ecks (Mark) some difficult questions that he was not happy to answer. He finally said there must be a leak and unfortunately we're out of warranty at that point in time so he can't replace the unit and if we wanted to replace it, we would have to pay for it ourselves regardless that this was giving us a problem since the first year we moved in. He also said he was going to be a good guy and continue "charging up" the unit free of cost each summer until the day we replace the unit. This summer, which is our 13th year here, he comes out, charges up the unit, and tries to charge me for it. When I question why he's charging me since 10 yrs back he said he would continue "charging up" our unit until we replace it, he said he's been doing us a favor for long enough and it can't continue. I've also recently learned there are environmental safety guidelines against "charging up" a system on a regular basis and it's extremely unethical that Ecks Air was doing this all these years. This man is very unethical and I would never recommend using Ecks Air.

Explained to me everything he was doing/how he was analyzing the situation while he was doing it. Was able to solve the issue pretty quickly, probably took him 15-20 minutes. He also gave me some good maintenance tips regarding my AC unit and water heater. I don't know how much the other places would charge, but it seemed like Ecks was probably a better value as he charged about what the other people were going to charge just for the service stop. Anyway, I was pleased with the service, thought it was a good value, and will call him again if I need any HVAC repair/maintenance work done.
