Alright - it's been quite a while since I was last in town, but man do I get a hankering for breakfast tacos! Only one issue - been hanging with our Cajun friends for the month Before and let's just say I need a detox from eating way to much super good food (most all homemade outside on a grill or in a black pot) and, well, maybe a few more adult beverages than I should... but, TACOS..... The tacos are generally really great! I've had the breakfast tacos and the street tacos, my mom has had a lunch plate and all have been really good. Every once in awhile, you'll get a breakfast taco that's a little more greasy or something else may be a little off but they're typically amazing. Always, always get the green sauce, it elevates everything to the next level. read more

Little place downtown, open for just breakfast and lunch. I had a taste of a few items. Tamale was tasty but over salted. Spanish rice was perfectly spiced in my opinion. Refried beans were hearty but the flavor wasn't my favorite (I compare everything to my Mexican Grandma's homemade food, cant help it) their cheese enchilada was yum, hard to mess those up! Visited this place yesterday with my partner who really liked the tacos. As a vegetarian, I typically can find something to eat anywhere. Unfortunately at DownTown taco's, the only option for me was the Cheese Quesadilla. Here's my problem...the 15 year-old staff working didn't really know anything about the menu. When I asked what was meat-free, they offered up a chicken option - when I said chicken was meat, they looked confused and then laughed and said "oh yeah." I asked if I could get something without meat, and would it be the same price to which they simply said, "well you can get extra veggy's but no discount..." Alas, I ordered the quesadilla (which was just ok, very little flavor) it came with beans and rice, to which I asked if they were vegetarian and answered with a yes - alas, the beans were chock-full of pork when the plate arrived. My boyfriend loved his meal, albeit we both thought charging $2.50 for chips/salsa was a little off putting as you have to wait a bit to get your meal. With the right management and service plan, I believe this place could be decent - but too many times, excellent cooks/chef's open a place knowing very little about all the little details that truly make a restaurant worthy of greatness, and repeat business from someone like myself! read more

DO NOT EAT HERE!! It was my 1st visit and I called in 2 chorizo, potato, egg and cheese breakfast tacos for me and my client. Picked them up on the way to work and when I bit into mine, the potatoes were frozen French fries that weren't even fried. They were still cold and hard in the middle. Not that big of a deal. I took them back to get a refund and the one lady behind the counter was one of the rudest people I have ever dealt with,told me they don't use frozen potatoes, I didn't know what I was talking about, was insulting and very rude as she gave my money back. My husband had to go back because they forgot his taco and once he delivered me and my coworkers are food we noticed 2 plates had no avocado , 2 with no Sautéed onion , all 3 plates had no Lime as they always do and all 3 cups of beans had a spoon filled of beans and the rest was just water.. after bringing that to the "managers" attention she basically said I was lying because her cooks said different and if I wanted to drive all the way back so she can refund the avocado and onion . The food here is excellent most of the time. I usually get orders to go, but today, we ate at the restaurant. They were cleaning the tables after some customers had left, and the smell of Fabuloso overpowered the smell of the food. I will never understand why anyone would choose to use this awful product, but certainly not in a place where you want people to smell your great food. This product is a general cleaner, not a disinfectant, which is what a restaurant should use. I'll still get food there, but no more dining in. 3 stars because of cleaner. read more

Pros and literally the only reason for the 2 stars: The tacos are huge. More than a person can eat in one sitting. That leads me to the cons: If a customer is made aware of the size or hell told anything about any item on the menu, you would be able to make a more informed decision. Customer service is lacking. My order came out wrong. When I explained that the meat was missing from the taco, I was told it wasn't. I know what meat looks like. When I sent it back, it was returned still wrong. Pretty sure it's not a lack of understanding. More like a lack of listening and or caring. There was plenty of side conversations going on, though. Tacos tasted ok for what I did receive. I've twice tried to give my business to this establishment recently. I have eaten here several times in 2017, and never had a problem, but....my last 2 experiences have been less than stellar. In November, I went in to order a breakfast taco to go, the total with tax, comes out to $4.87, I attempted to pay with my debit card, but was told there is a $5 minimum. I left and took my business to Lupitas on Dixie Dr. Now, I'm pretty sure that the breakfast taco is a pretty popular order, so it doesn't seem to make much sense to me to refuse someone's business over 13 cents....but oh well. Today, I tried to order something to go about 10 minutes before they closed, just a taco. It would have been a quick order, and I would been out before actual closing time. Instead, I was informed that they were already closed at 12:51... Also, their Yelp profile says they close at 2 pm.... Anyway, that was my last time to stop by there. This three star is for food not for the service . You guys have good food . Price is not the concern but on things like salsa on take out order are helpful for a positive view. I am upset about it caz I personally called and asked to make sure they got the salsa for the order..but they end throwing green salsa only.. at least you should ask or if u are not sure then put both kind salsas.. read more

This place is the bomb! I'm not sure why this is not a regular on my dining out choices. This is the closest to what I grew up with, that I have seen anywhere. This quaint mom and pop style restaurant makes me feel like I'm in my BFFs kitchen with her mom Linda and we have just put homemade tortillas on the comal. I'll preface this by saying that most of the foods we've tried here were amazingly good. The flour tortillas are huge, are thick and have a really good flavor. The enchiladas are awesome. The breakfast tacos and migas were both really excellent. The -2 stars are for the tamales. They are awful. Dry, crumbly, scant filling, no seasoning in the dough. The first time we ordered a dozen to go, we thought it was a fluke because everything else is SO good. We ordered them again and had the same problem. The food is decent here, but the service is so slow. If you come here, plan to wait 30+ minutes for an undersized hippo taco. They are almost always out of coffee when I visit, and it takes a good 15 minutes for them to brew a fresh pot.
