I was visiting for the weekend, and we decided to stop by around 8:30 PM so we could enjoy our food before the DJ arrived and the music started. However, from the moment we walked in, the servers seemed unwelcoming, and the experience only went downhill from there.
After finishing my food, I was ready to order a drink. The waitress asked for my ID, which I gladly provided. After looking at it, she said, "Girl, this isn't you." At first, I thought she was joking, but she was completely serious. She stared at my ID for quite some time before walking away, and I assumed she was putting in my order.
Instead, she eventually came back and told me that her manager said she could not serve me because I "look too young."
Excuse me? I am 28 YEARS OLD, and my ID clearly states my age. I understand that I may look younger than I am, but how does that justify refusing to serve me when I provided a valid ID?
I asked to speak to the manager, and after waiting for a while, she finally came over. I explained that I felt discriminated (if that was the right word to use) because of my appearance. Her response was that many people use fake IDs, so she had no way of knowing whether mine was real.
I understand the importance of checking IDs and preventing underage drinking. However, if there are concerns about fake IDs, then they should invest in getting an ID reader specially knowing this business is a bar only after 9PM rather than automatically refusing service to someone whose ID shows they are of legal drinking age.
After that entire exchange, the waitress came back and said, "Okay, what do you want, girl?" At that point, I had no interest in ordering anything else. I told her we were leaving.
The issue was never about being asked for my ID. It was about how I was treated after providing it. From the unwelcoming attitude when we walked in to the way this entire situation was handled, the customer service was unacceptable.
It is extremely disappointing to have this experience at a place I once enjoyed visiting. I would like the actual owner of Casa Tequila to reach out to me regarding this situation. Customers deserve to be treated with respect, and this entire experience was unnecessary and unprofessional.
I hope management takes this seriously because this is not the kind of experience anyone should have when simply trying to enjoy a night out.
