The food was hot, tasty, and (thereby) reasonably priced. The pancakes were so fluffy and warm, need I say delicious. The salsa was more wet than chunky as well as gracefully spicy. It had just a tiny kick to it. Overall, the salsa was great! It went perfect with my tacos. Speaking of, these were some sizable tacos! For $6.75 each, they were worth it! The service was respectful, attentive, and timely. The atmosphere is safe and cozy; I'm so glad their A/C works in this hot, humid summer. Parking was a bit odd, but it's self-explanatory when you pull up. I was also pleased with the size of the cups they brought out for our sweet tea and water; it ain't a game-changer, but it deserves its praise. Used to be good but last 2 times I visited it did not hit the spot. Fajita meat didn't taste fresh and overall my taco just seemed dry and bland. My best friend who visits frequently as it's close to her apartment said she agreed and as of late the tacos have dipped in quality. Especially for the price. I'll start this by saying I love Phat Boyz tacos. Been eating here for years. Service is always great, even though the place has always looked like a dump. However, if you're on any kind of special diet, don't come here. I happen to be eating Keto right now, I walked in and ordered eggs and fajita, hold the tortilla, beans and potato. I walked out paying full price. $25 for eggs, meat and a drink. I get that eggs and fajita are the more expensive items in that meal and I'm all about paying my way, but I shouldn't be charged the same as someone who didn't remove over half the items. read more

It's only decent food if you eat at the restaurant. If you order Togo then be prepared to eat a taco that feels like it was dipped in water before being wrapped up. If you let them know something was wrong with your order then that will yell at you and hang up the phone. Just take your money elsewhere and it will save you a lot of time and headaches. read more

Wifey had the Chilaquilis and I the barbacoa. Both equally bomb. The barbacoa was authentic and pretty damn tasty. Not greasy, just tasty, the way it should be. We ordered a side of carne guisada...just to try it out, was bad at all, we'd recommend this. We were able to take a complete plate to go when combining both plates of left overs together. I ate here many times under the previous owner, but what about now? Well, the phat boy no chorizo delivered. Extra big. Homemade tortillas. A taco that could compete with any place. Here's where they fell short. And quite short at that. Their sauces are lacking. The red sauce tastes like watered down tomato sauce with a hint of vinegar and spices. Wide variety of items. Usually order 15 to 20 tacos for the office once a month or so. Have tried their beef fajita, Carne guisada (very tender and flavorful), huevos rancheros, and the bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast taco. All were very good! No smile...no how are you...no welcome. They had empanadas on the counter and I asked about them. As the lady was walking away told me the cost. I believe in customer service and appreciating the people coming in. How about wait until I'm done before moving on to the next person. She finally came back and I said I will take the empanadas. Pretty damn good I have to admit. Not quite as good as Taco Loco in Angleton about 10 minutes down 288 from this place, but the portions are bigger, the tortillas they have are EXCELLENT, and the bacon is delicious. Sauce could use a bit more of a kick, but still pretty good. I've played around with the options here until I found something I really liked. Taco Loco got it right the first time, but that definitely should not discount Phat Boyz. I have a hard time calling it Phat Boyz though, I and everyone in Clute still think of it as Mendoza's, but it's waaayy cleaner around the area than it was back then. Staff are friendly, price is right. Highly recommend, and it's about 2 minutes from where I go to school, so it's nice on those days where I have class at 11 EDIT: If you look at my Taco Loco's review, I may have said this place doesn't hold a candle to it, but that was before I decided to stop being narrow minded and play around with the burrito options to get it just right. Have been coming here for years but recently been pretty disappointed. I always order a "Phat boy" without egg with fajita meat. Ends up being around an $8, $9 taco. The last two times, get all the way home and the taco has egg. And they only give you one tiny salsa that doesn't cover a huge taco, if you ask for another they charge you... like...if the taco cost that must the least you can do is supply enough salsa. This humble location is home to delicious breakfast piping hot coffee and friendly servers. I highly recommend the Mingus which is scrambled eggs with peppers and tomatoes and get this, tortilla strips stirred in. A side of refried beans and fried potato chunks and you've got yourself a delightful breakfast especially served up with two piping hot handmade flour tortillas. Been coming here since it was Mendozas. The food here is great, surprisingly one of the best menu items is the hamburger which is served on a fresh made sourdough bun. All the portions are very generous so come in with an appettie. My only complaints is it's kind of a small place, and they close at 2PM.
