White Flag (I ate some of the bacon before the picture was taken).
    Laura S.

It's been years since I've been here, but we wanted breakfast and most places were closed for Labor Day. We chose a booth next to some rowdy young people who had probably been up all night (oh, to be young again) and were having a great time. I wish I'd caught the waitresses name because she was great. I had the White Flag - 2 over easy eggs, bacon, and sourdough toast. The eggs were perfect and there were at least 5 slices of bacon. The coffee was great, too. It was a basic breakfast but perfectly done, which is just what I wanted. My partner's biscuits and gravy were excellent, too.

In a city where most places close early, we should be thankful for Downtown Olly's for opening late. I like it's located right off the highway and it has its own parking lot, though not big. It celebrates LGBTQ+ community not only during pride month but all year long. This was my second time visiting, and It was hard to pick what to eat as they have a big menu. I recommend their sloppy tots. It's unique-never seen it anywhere else. It was addicting. I had a southwest salad, and I was a bit confused why they did not have southwest dressing for the southwest salad ?? But other than that I was happy with my experience there.

Some of the best bar food I've had -- and they serve breakfast all day?! That's a win. The bartender wasn't the most welcoming, but overall, the service was solid. Definitely worth a visit.

So glad to see this place still thriving and getting even better! The chicken tenders were the best I've ever had anywhere. Very reasonably priced drinks and the karaoke was entertaining. Every seat at the bar was taken on Saturday night...such a fun atmosphere.

Olly's Burger , double meat, extra onions, extra pickles, lettuce , tomato's ... fries on the side. "Nice juicy meat"

Olay's burger: double meat, lettuce, tomatoes, extra onions, extra pickles/ fry's on the side, American cheese.

    Entrance on a rainy day

3.5/5 Cozy space on a rainy day, no happy hour (according to state laws). IPAs on tap were good, chicken sandwich was tasty with extra pickles and Cole slaw. There was almost no ambiance other than music videos on tv screens. Wish it had more life. I was googling bars in the area and this popped up and was the closest but felt mute. Service from the bar was good. Friendly, easy and laid back. Cool persona and hip vibe. Space was clean and that's a plus. Maybe I just got out of luck with a rainy day opposed to a hot weekend. Variety of food options and cocktails. Certainly a place to try if you're in the area.

On July 1, 1980, new owners Bill Brown and Dean Gardner opened it up as Our Place - affectionately known as O.P.'s. It was Indy's first levi/leather bar. It was around 1990 that the dance floor was put in, though by this time I believe Dean had passed away and Bill sold the place to Phil Denton and Greg Powers in 1992. After Phil and Greg took over, O.P.'s became known for its philanthropy and passionate support of the city's LGBTQIA+ community. In 2002, Greg passed away and Phil renamed the bar in his honor. Gregs was born and his legacy continues. While I find the parking around here a little more difficult than at someplace like Metro, Gregs is FAR more wheelchair friendly than Metro. There's no comparison. (Both are weak in terms of accessible bathrooms). Gregs hosts drag shows on a regular basis. Gregs hosts card tournaments, gear-friendly events, dance events, and much more. The prices are pretty decent. The employees were friendly. The clientele seems mostly cool (there are always exceptions, but I felt welcome here). While I do think Gregs is more accessible, it's worth noting that when it's crowded the layout doesn't really lean toward accessibility. As someone who tends to avoid larger events, I'm generally fine with going during an off-time. I enjoyed my visit here. I'd always wanted to visit. This is probably more of a 3.5 for me, however, I'm skewing upward due to the good prices, better accessibility, and overall friendliness of employees. While I may not rush back, there's no doubt I'll return.

The weekend we went happened to be Bloomington Pride, so this place was packed. A fun mixture of college students, 20 something's, and older folks. You enter through a tall fence off of an alleyway, so I'm guessing it's challenging to find if you don't know where you're going, but that's part of the fun. Of the 4 lesbian bars we've been to, this place wins for best decor hands down. We're talking zebra print walls, stuffed unicorn heads, yonic art, glow in the dark paint. Great vibes. They have a super cute outdoor patio as well, and I loved the little food truck on the patio that opens at 9 pm! Great waffle fries and hot sandwiches. Nothing hits as right as hot cheese when you're drunk. They have tons of fun specialty drinks on a menu behind the bar! Also a great mocktail menu for the sober community! Everyone was super welcoming in this space. The one complaint I have is the Dj... we came here to dance the night away and barely made it to 11 pm because the DJ didn't play any recognizable songs or songs with a dancing beat. There were only around 10 people on the dance floor at a given time. On the other hand, this is the first lesbian bar I've been in that has had an operational dance floor with anyone on it, so that's a win. I can't wait to come back again the next time I visit Bloomington!

They are true women who do care. It is undeniably the best place to dance in BLM any day of the week. They do have great drink specials. The organization has also asked me not to abut Shelby Street Tavern's reply to my review on Google, and I have grudgingly agreed. However, the post stays. I will notate my deception, and will also remove the needlessly rude section at the end, but the rest stands. ORIGINAL POST, EDITED AS EXPLAINED ABOVE: This is honestly a great bar, mostly, hence the 5-stars for Food, Service, and Atmosphere. I was initially glad my organization [NOTE: THIS IS A LIE, SEE ABOVE] chose to patronize this place. But that appreciation ended last night when bar management decided that keeping things quiet was more important than dealing with an assault and battery that happened at the bar. If the genders and races in the situation had been reversed, my friend would still be in jail right now, while the harasser in this situation got to finish out their night feeling good about getting away with what they've done. Someone reserving your bar for an event does not magically get the right to assault and batter someone. (OK, maybe not the anniversary of your sobriety.) It's located on 16th Street in Speedway, so you have numerology in your favor. It's mellow and laid-back, like the number 16. (No one thinks about the number 16, so it has no responsibilities. The number 16 doesn't have to do any heavy lifting like 15 or 20.) It has decent food. You can really just relax at Mike's and settle into the hazy fog of canned beer and fried foods. This bar opens at noon, and like a degenerate fiend, I was there right when it opened. A guy who seemed like a regular sat down at the bar not too long after I grabbed a table, and a beer was placed in front of him before he even had time to arrange himself on his barstool. Then, wordlessly, a basket of food soon followed. Mike's Speedway Lounge is that kind of place: It's where everyone knows your name, and if you're lucky, your beer and food will materialize in front of you with little to no effort. This was my first time visiting, though, so nothing materialized in front of me. That said, the service was excellent. There was one woman working when I visited, and she was opening beers, taking orders, cooking, settling tabs, dealing with deliveries and wiping tables all by herself. She also had time to tell me about the length of her father's grass, and that was a pleasant conversation. By the time I left, there were several people at the bar chatting with the server and each other. It was a nice and friendly atmosphere. Speaking of opening beers: There are no beers on tap here. Zero. All of the beer is in cans or bottles. They do have a lot of liquor, though, so they can make you a little something, if you want. The food is OK and what you'd expect for a bar. Burgers and sandwiches come with fries, which were excellent. Mike's serves crinkle-cut fries, and they are perfectly fried, so they are crispy on the outside but soft and mealy on the inside. I'm a patty melt person through and through, so that's what I got. The patty melts at Mike's are served between slices of marble rye bread, which was a nice surprise, but the cheese is American, which isn't my favorite. We also got the Mike's Famous Spanish Burger, which is a super thick burger patty with tomato sauce and bell peppers. Apparently, it tastes like a stuffed pepper made into a burger. So depending on where you stand with stuffed peppers, you will either love this burger, or feel like you need to urgently use the restroom after you eat it. Your mileage may vary. There's a pool table here, as well as a digital juke box, a claw machine with twisted things in it (I can't even say what those things are, because Yelp would probably flag my review), a racing video game (because Indy 500), and a few machines that dispense pull tab tickets. This is an old-school bar for sure. The only thing missing is the clouds of cigarette smoke. This is a no-smoking bar!
