My world famous psychic medium friend was visiting from Australia this week so I brought him to Greg's for a drink. Greg's always plays the best music and with the recent Covid lifting of restrictions you can sit at the bar finally so that is a blessing. However,,masks must still be worn if you walking around which is thankfully enforced in a very friendly yet strict way. The bartenders are the best. Aaron and Ken make the best drinks ~ Aaron is really great at Chocolate martinis. Ken is very focused and attentive giving uncommon balanced service to a large crowd with ease which is a very difficult accomplishment in the service industry. Great place to visit and very friendly to all the sentient beings of Earth Ken almost lost the championship but in the end he attempted to create a Chocolate martini and did a super great job. Last night was my second time at Greg's. We were there to see Darlene Mitchell who came in third place on Season 18 of RuPaul's Drag Race. The experience is so much fun! The DJ is great and gets the crowd dancing. Definitely support your local Drag scene and culture. Make sure to bring cash though for tipping the Queens but also because that's all they accept for drinks. I did not love the drinks either last time so I had something out of a can last night. I wouldn't recommend a vodka cranberry or espresso martini. Overall a good time if you know what to expect. read more

I've long wanted to check out Gregs, a longtime presence in the LGBTQIA+ community since its beginning back in the early 1980s. It began life as one-room bar called Wawase. On July 1, 1980, new owners Bill Brown and Dean Gardner opened it up as Our Place - affectionately known as O.P.'s. It was Indy's first levi/leather bar. It was around 1990 that the dance floor was put in, though by this time I believe Dean had passed away and Bill sold the place to Phil Denton and Greg Powers in 1992. After Phil and Greg took over, O.P.'s became known for its philanthropy and passionate support of the city's LGBTQIA+ community. In 2002, Greg passed away and Phil renamed the bar in his honor. Gregs was born and his legacy continues. While I find the parking around here a little more difficult than at someplace like Metro, Gregs is FAR more wheelchair friendly than Metro. There's no comparison. (Both are weak in terms of accessible bathrooms). Gregs hosts drag shows on a regular basis. Gregs hosts card tournaments, gear-friendly events, dance events, and much more. The prices are pretty decent. The employees were friendly. The clientele seems mostly cool (there are always exceptions, but I felt welcome here). While I do think Gregs is more accessible, it's worth noting that when it's crowded the layout doesn't really lean toward accessibility. As someone who tends to avoid larger events, I'm generally fine with going during an off-time. I enjoyed my visit here. I'd always wanted to visit. This is probably more of a 3.5 for me, however, I'm skewing upward due to the good prices, better accessibility, and overall friendliness of employees. While I may not rush back, there's no doubt I'll return. read more

I visited with a group for a bachelorette-esque party last month. There is a cover charge to enter the drag show. It's a cash bar so be sure to have it handy. The drag show was entertaining and fun. There are not a lot of seats in the back area where drag show takes place. Restrooms are shared in back bar and door didn't close all the way. read more

I live in Louisville & go to Greg's when visiting family in Indy. Trying to find parking is a nightmare. If you park across the street diagonal from the bar, people say that their cars have been broken into while being in the bar. I feel like the only thing keeping the bar open are drag shows if you're into that scene. I did go on a leather night which was nice since it wasn't a drag show. Drinks are pretty good when the bartenders are not standing around talking, ignoring guests or checking their phones instead of waiting on paying guests. The only good thing I can say about Greg's is, they always have people playing darts on the weekend who seem really laid back & cool. Service is good but clientele ruins the experience. There is one specific guest that will attempt to ruin the vibe. He is a heavy set man who drinks PBR and if he is there, leave. If he attempts to buy you a drink DENY IT. Tell the bar tenders NO. I brought my straight friends here for a good time and it was drama because of this guest. I wish I could recommend better gay bars to visit in Indy but I'm not familiar so you're better off just not going here at all if this guest is present. read more

I haven't reviewed Greg's in 8 years and I see I only gave them 3 stars back then, so I think it's time for an update. Although we don't live in Indianapolis anymore, we come back to visit frequently and Greg's is always a stop on our list. The staff here has vastly improved since my last review in 2014. They're always friendly, welcoming and accommodating. The bar(s) is/are efficient and they have great drink prices. My only beef is the cash-only setup, but that is well-known going in and they have an ATM, so it's not the end of the world. I love that they do draft beer pitchers which are usually a significant discount to buying 4 draft beers. I always get an ice cold pitcher of Miller and am never disappointed. The space has done nothing but improve since we've been coming in. It's pretty much a permanent stop on our Indianapolis "to-do list." read more

I'm here visiting for the weekend. It was a decent vibe but clearly the front bartender is racist! Note that I'm a black gay man.....There was no one getting a drink and the bartender clearly and deliberately ignored us. I had to go around the other side and then he tried to ignore me again. It's unfortunate that we experienced unfair treatment in a community that's constantly fighting for equal rights. I'm usually not one to write anything bad, especially about my own community. The experience I had in a LGBTQ+ establishment where a sense of "segregation" took place was very surprising. This is hard to break down being the experience is one of my own, including my husband and brother. Are black individuals openly invited? It may have just been the bartender we had (Daniel). I can't say it's the business, but it is a reflection of the brand. Is it their policy to require a ID to check out pool sticks? I had to give my ID. An then I saw another gentlemen of a different ethic background, request the same, but no ID requested. Secondly, we were only informed of their no card policy after ordering drinks. Again I can't say for sure, but the entire experience came off very racist an disrespectful. This is a cash only location. They do have ATM for you though. read more

From what I've read, Greg's is the staple LGBTQxyzabc123 bar in Indy, and I would have to agree. Of course, I am a bit biased because it is the only gay bar that I visited in Indy. From my perception, most of the folks know each other. However, I managed to chat with a few folks so the place isn't too stand-offish. The clientele is a mixed batch of all colors, sizes, and ages. The bar is quite large with a dance floor, a couple of pool tables, electronic dart boards, AND an outdoor patio. For someone who lives in NYC, drinks are pretty dirt cheap about $3.75 for a well gin and soda. Plus, mini buckets of gin and sodas were only 8 bucks!!! Service is OK. They use plastic cups because they cant be bothered to wash a glass which makes them look cheap and lazy at the same time. Its also CASH ONLY so if you dont bring cash you're SOL or you need to ask someone to spot you. I bet half their income they dont report to the IRS anyway since its in cash. What a great business model. (sarcasm). Im all for giving the middle finger to the government but this is inconvenient for customers who dont carry cash, especially gen-z'ers who use apple pay. read more

This place has potential - we visited while in Indy last week. It was kind of dead, but I appreciated the look and feel. The bartender was less than friendly, but we overlooked that. The big problem with Greg's is that they only accept cash. I don't carry cash as a rule. My husband took $20 out of a nearby ATM and we had a round of drinks then left, but likely would have spent way more and stayed longer if the venue accepted 21st century forms of payment. read more

The vibe of the bar felt like they were jealous of the city of Chicago gay bars; small comments about bars in Chicago were made‍. I also felt sick/trashy when an employee got on the microphone and told the male patrons to please pee in the toilet not around it; ummmmm that's why ur employed‍. I also did care to hear that black ppl look alike. I've been to Indianapolis a few times now, but only once to Greg's. In the first 5 minutes, I was already a fan and feel like it is a necessary cornerstone to the Gay community there. Lots of new and seasoned patrons mix in this large space which includes area for billiards, an outside area for chilling or smoking, a dance section with live music, multiple bars with cheap drinks, and a constant mix perfect for people watching. Why haven't I been here before? Definitely will be going back next time I'm in Indy to enjoy this great place again. read more

Good shows, events, and drinks but it could be better overall. I live within a block of Greg's and yet most of the time my friend suggests it, I groan and offer other options. Why? I could do without the cover, the cash bar, and the dance floor music. Generally, I'm alright with paying a cover if the experience will be worth it and so far a regular night at the bar doesn't come close to being worth it for me. The cash bar is more of an inconvenience than anything because today most of us don't carry cash; however, there is an atm nearby. The dancefloor music: the times I've been there, I would best describe it as disco/pop. I know we all have different tastes and I am by no means a music expert but I'd appreciate a better variety. On the six or seven times I've been there aside from events, the dance floor is mostly empty too. My friends like the music but it just doesn't do it for me. All that being said, I've been to a couple of events: Leather party and (2) drag shows and I've highly enjoyed myself. For events, the place gets PACKED. It's a great time and a very open and inclusive atmosphere. Of course, you would expect that at a gay bar but it's good to mention. read more

Greg's is a great place to socialize, meet new friends, hook up and basically have a good time. There's a stage area with a bar where drag shows happen regularly on one end of the building, an area for playing darts in the middle and pool tables on the other end of the building. The building has three bar serving areas for when it gets really busy. The staff are friendly and cordial. The only fault of Greg's is there is not much seating. While the large bar has a significant number of seats around it, when this place gets rocking, you'll be hard-pressed to find a place to sit. But when good music is playing and there are lots good vibes and people, who sits anyway, right‽ I love that Greg's is very active in the LGBTQ+ community. I was in town for a business trip and really wanted to check out the scene in Indianapolis. Greg was so welcoming and friendly! I will definitely come back when I'm in town. My favorite part is Fridays before midnight (starting at 10PM or 11 -- not sure) when they have Country Line Dancing. It's a blast to watch as well as participate -- there's always a nice lady or gentleman to teach you if you don't know how. After midnight, Pop and Electronica takes back over. Also available are pool tables, dart boards, dance floor, smoking patio, and two bars -- one you can sit down at, and one near the dance floor. Dearest, Greg's. Thankful for any LGBT space in Indianapolis! There are so few! Though I am personally very charmed by Greg's and each of my visits have been a blast, I do understand the ambivalent reviews. There's a $5 cover for a very hit-or-miss bar as far as the crowd, so unless you're confident in the enjoyment your own group/friends can provide on their own, it might be hard to commit! I've gone in to a crowd of my friend group and just a handful of others, but we still managed to have fun! There's pool and darts and very cheap drinks. Though, forgive me if I'm wrong, but I believe it was cash only (*sighs loudly*). We danced freely in the notably spacious dance floor, and we had a grand ole time. They host events too! But I usually manage to miss when they're happening..? Either I'm unobservant or they're less advertised. This is my favorite place to dance in Indianapolis. It's a gay bar, if you care, but you shouldn't. I'm kind of a picky person when it comes to dance venues. I have discriminating standards for the music. I can't tolerate a tiny, empty dance floor, especially if it's right next to an entrance or hallway and subject to random people crowding you. I hate when it's not dark enough and people sit at the bars and just stare en masse at the two people dancing. With those standards in mind, here is my club hierarchy: Space: Greg's has a better dance floor than the metro, casba and the melody inn, but is about equal to Talbott's. Talbott's dance floor is bigger, but Greg's is darker and there is far less "parking on the dance floor," if you will. Music: Greg's plays better music than Talbott (with exception of some rare talents that pass through the side room, but the dance floor in the side room is no good), the melody inn is kind of a mixed bag for the electronic shows, casba has pretty solid music as does metro. Greg's really wins in atmosphere. You want stories to tell the next day? Come here. I love this place so hard. read more

This place kills me. It's almost too much fun. I have a love-hate relationship with the cash only. It helps me keep myself in check, but I hate going to the ATM when I'm just trying to have the time of my life and paint the town red. Do you want to dance? You can do that here! Play pool or darts? I dare you to do it! Smoke on that beautiful elongated patio out back? Please do it and bum me one when I'm out. I've only been to Greg's a few times but have always had a good time. Parking can be hard to find. There is a little parking lot by the building, I've always been lucky and found a spot. Greg's seems to get busy Friday night about 1030. They have line dancing Friday night with a coach who will teach you. Greg's is broken into sections, a very large bar and pool table area, dart games and the dance floor. They also have a smoking area in the back. The smoking area is long and skinny so if you are a nonsmoker there really isn't anywhere to go for fresh air. Greg's is cash only but they do have 2 ATM's in the bar area. Greg's also has pull tabs - fun but probably a waste of money. Doesn't stop me! : ). Greg's does not sell good but there is a good truck always outside the door! It can get very crowded but with all the open spaces it's not too bad. read more

Nice, dark dancefloor. I am picky about DJs (being one myself), and sometimes the DJing leaves a little to be desired, but if you just wanna cut loose, have a good time, and not be gawked at by people parking on the dancefloor, it's a good place for that. Drinks can be a bit on the pricey side (this ain't Chicago, peeps), but my last Red Bull and vodka there was vodka with a splash of Red Bull, so... eh... who's complaining, really? I know it's a bar full of mostly dudes, but damn... one bathroom stall for the ladies? A bit frustrating when you really have to go, but waiting always becomes an adventure in meeting new people, so thus far the waits have meant entertaining company. I like that there's a little smoking area out back, which gives you a moment to cool off, and people are mostly pretty friendly, so you can chat and be silly while you engage in your terrible smoking habits (I smoke. Not judging.) I've had a lot of fun every time I've been there. I would only encourage the DJs to pick a vibe and run with it, and not toss in hip hop in the middle of some crazy, high energy set. Greg's is one of the few bars in Indianapolis that caters to any crowd. Lots of fun happening here and the only place I've been to with a crowded but friendly Country Line Dancing room on Friday nights until midnight (show up at 9:00 for Line Dancing Lessons). The bar is also pretty busy on Saturday nights as well and even host a drag show Monday nights. Any other night of the week it's fairly casual. This bar is smoke-free (indoors only)! But also has a back patio for smoking. Neither bars accept credit cards, but they do have an ATM machine to get some cash. They do not have a VIP section, but they do have second floor seating, which gives a view of the main bar area and a good place to see who is coming in the front door. The bathrooms are a little sketch, but what can you expect from a gay bar... Overall, I always have a good time here... except when it's time to push through the crowds on a busy weekend. That's correct, and let me tell you why- I'd been in Greg's before, for a couple of IYG events, but it was weird, I was the only woman I spotted and there was a performer, and no one was tipping her except me, so I pretty much stayed with Talbott. That is, until one of my fb friends mentioned Bingo and on a whim, I checked it out, and walked into one of the most friendly, crazy (don't deny it) and fun things to do on a Tuesday. It is definitely something I look forward to, and I like drinking where I don't feel obligated to dance, because I cannot. Plus, I won! How cool is that?
