    The mechanical bull
    Renee B.

This was such a fun place to bring some friends line dancing! We went on a line dancing specific night, so I cannot speak to any concerts here or any other type of "night." On a Saturday line dancing evening, this place had a good amount of people but the dance floor only got completely crowded two or three times during the night. Usually the dance floor was half full- about half of those people knew what they were doing in terms of line dancing and the other half were watching and doing their best. The people who knew what they were doing were very kind and helped those of us who were learning and watching. This made for a very fun and easy atmosphere for our group (about 8 of us). The bar was cheap and fast. We kept a tab open all night and were easily able to close it out by the end of the night. There was Cornhole in the back of the dance floor and we played that for a while. There was a punching bag game (2 plays for $1!) that kept our group entertained for a bit, but most fun was the mechanical bull! $5 for two rides is a steal and you choose easy, medium, or hard. The guy working it was very chill and nice and we all had a blast taking turns riding the mechanical bull. The line was not long. There is also a pizza place in here! Which was perfect after a couple hours of dancing and drinking. The pizza took about a half hour to get out, so plan for that, but once we got it it was very tasty. I would definitely come back here again for line dancing night!

Amazing venue! Was a great experience for a concert. Big enough to house a small concert and was well run.

On October 29, I visited 8 Seconds Saloon for a county music concert. Overall, I had a very positive experience. The venue was small enough that you could sit anywhere and have a good view of the artist. Before the concert there was plenty to do around the bar to keep busy. Since it was my first time going, I decided to walk around and check out what all 8 Seconds offered. There were multiple pool tables, a large dance floor, and the iconic mechanical bull. The bars were very quick with their service and I never had to wait more than five minutes for a drink. The bathrooms were also surprisingly clean as was the entire bar. I would highly recommend this bar to any country music fans or anyone that wants to visit a bar that downtown Indianapolis or Broad Ripple can't offer.

We came to Indiana for a business trip, and definitely wanted to go to a decent country bar. 8 Second Saloon would've been first on our last, BUT: -Their hours are wrong on their Google listing, so it just says they're closed... all the time. They're most likely open! -They don't keep their Instagram very up to date with events, advertising, specials. Etc. Luckily we came across this place on Yelp. :) We ended up catching the Kylie Morgan concert and tickets were only $5.00, so we upgraded to the $10 tickets for the high top tables & pit area. The venue is a cool setup with stuff to do in every direction. The music was a great volume and the systems sounded good! The lighting was perfect for those wanting to enjoy the concert and those just wanting to hang out at the bar. The ladies serving us were the absolute sweetest! They both had super curly hair & I wish I remembered their names, but they were personable, friendly & efficient. My reason for only 4 stars was the security. I've never been to a venue that didn't do a wand security check or a bag check. We've been to a lot of states & having that extra safety is totally assuring... They didn't ask to see what's in my bag & they literally just scanned our tickets. Our Uber driver on the way back to our hotel said the area wasn't the best, so that was even more shocking that they don't check... Other reason, they still charge $1.00 card fee per transaction. It's 2023... yes, we understand the system charges them to use it, so increase the price of your drinks, maybe. We had a blast! There was like nothing to do in Indiana when it came to nightlife(we're from California), so we were happy to find this spot!

It was my 22nd birthday and I wanted to ride a mechanical bull! Super fun, good drinks, and had these tube shots that were really good "mermaid" flavor i think. Great place check it out

This was on the table. Why?

This place should be shut down by the board of health! Filthy! It smells awful, the floors are sticky and stained, the bathroom had dried up vomit in the stall walls and floor which probably haven't been mopped in 10 years. Just all around disgusting. The waitress had no idea about drinks or prices. A huge waste of time and money.

From the sticky floor to having to clean off our own table.. Then to go to the bathroom and see this. PURE nastiness. Come on 8 Seconds. You have enough customers who pay good money to update this facility. EEWWWW

They have big name country artists year round for a fraction of the cost you would pay at Klipsch or anywhere else.

It gave me an opportunity to check out a venue I'd always wanted to check out. Duke's is a honky-tonk (think Waylon not Wallen), an intimate yet wonderfully decorated bar located in what was formerly known as Ice House Bar. Duke's has live music nearly every night - if it's not actually music, it's some other type of event. The venue is relatively small with about a max of 60 in the main room and a side space that could probably fit 20-25 more. The main room has mostly 4-top tables with a bar area available. The side space seems to be mostly high-top tables. Duke's has a lunch and dinner menu. While it may seem weird for a honky-tonk, Duke's actually has a rather extensive vegan menu. They are well known for their fried chicken, however, the menu actually has a variety of bar food ranging from burgers to tenderloin to appetizers to a bunch of other items. The vegan menu is also surprisingly extensive. Duke's has a full bar. I was pleased that they do have unsweetened iced tea. I ordered the chicken - which came with a chicken breast and a wing. It was nicely seasoned and quite delicious. In terms of accessibility (which was relevant since I'm a wheelchair user and one of the acts was using a motorized chair), Duke's has made some definite efforts toward accessibility (this is an older building with limits). There's a ramp offering accessibility in the back (and there is parking in the back). This is a very working class/industrial area, but everything felt safe to me and I had no issues. The ramp has a side rail you can hold on to if needed. I was able to use the ramp without much difficulty. The dining area is easily accessible other than the side area with high-tops (it's accessible, but the tables are higher). It looked like they had 3-4 bathrooms with all being single user. The first one I tried wasn't wheelchair friendly, however, the second one worked quite nicely and did have bars. Duke's had brought in a ramp - an impressive gesture. They stated it was something they'd been wanting to do and today offered the opportunity. It wasn't perfect, however, when you're disabled you get so used to lack of access that when someone genuinely tries you tend to give them the benefit of the doubt. I sure did. Employees were super friendly throughout the event and I got the opportunity to meet the owner for the event (which was comedy). Overall, this was an excellent experience. They have their concert schedule on their website along with their menu. This is a lovely little honky-tonk and I really enjoyed my time here. I almost stayed for tonight's concert (I actually knew her music), however, after being there all afternoon I was tired. That said, I'll no doubt return.

I have a soft…read moreplace in my heart for Tufty Clough's Radio Radio, a Fountain Square live music spot since 2001 and absolutely one of my favorite places to hear live music in Indy. Radio Radio is a 21 and over, general admission concert venue that offers table and lounge seating on a first-come/first-serve basis with the rest being standing room only (or sitting in my case, eh?). They offer full bar service and have specialty craft cocktails at select shows. Radio Radio is only open during shows with doors opening an hour before the first act is scheduled to play. It's a smoke-free facility, though it's my understanding you can smoke out back. Radio Radio has a really killer vibe with a weaving together of style, substance, retro, and probably a few other things. I don't get to Radio Radio nearly enough, but every time I go I'm like "Man, I need to come here more often." There are free parking lots in various locations around Fountain Square along with street parking in spots. Curb cuts are plentiful in Fountain Square, though it is an older part of the city so there are occasional sidewalk cracks. The front entrance is perfectly accessible and the venue itself is fairly solid, though the "Standing Room Only" shows can be a challenge. My understanding is they'll try to work with you with advance notice, though I have to be honest and say I've never had any difficulties as without exception I've found Radio Radio crowds to be respectful of wheelchair users when they show up. I've always been able to see, though I do typically arrive early just to make sure. Radio Radio's sound system was updated a few years ago and the sound is extremely awesome now. Acts range from local bands to up-and-coming regional and national acts or bands with more of a cult following. Concert capacity is right around 250. There's also this incredibly beautiful winding bar. Employees are friendly and helpful, drink prices are fair (especially for music venues), solid craft beer options, and I just love this entire vibe. It is worth noting that Radio Radio does not do food. If you don't know David "Tufty" Clough, he was the longtime bassist for Toxic Reasons and also for Zero Boys. He was also one of my first artist interviews when I was in college (so, yes. I'm a longtime fan). He also used to own Broad Ripple's Future Shock. This is an awesome venue and one of the better mid-sized options here in Indy. If you've never seen a show, I highly recommend it.

Called at 6 and got a reservation for 8, for 5 of us on a Saturday night. This is kind of an anomaly for any restaurants off Mass Ave. We were seated right away and started with drinks and apps. We got "Disco Boys" and "I'm too pretty for this" cocktails which were tasty - kudos for the fun cocktail names. Calamari, Artisan, and Charcuterie came shortly after. There's a few different options of cheeses and meats, it's sort of a choose your own adventure situation. All were good, especially the calamari. A lot of restaurants tend to overcook it and the calamari gets rubbery, not the case here. Our entrees came out next and I made sure to try a bite of everyone's LOL. The standout of all the entrees was definitely the "Duck, duck" which was, obviously, duck. The runner up would definitely have to be the chicken cacciatore. Overall, really great ambiance, food, and service. I would highly recommend Union 50 if you're looking for something fancy, but not too fancy.
